ND fan here, and I totally agree. IU schedule is ranked higher than ND. Both teams have 1 loss and I think IU should be ranked higher and ND is ranked too high
Both shouldn't be in the top 8. Indiana's best wins are Michigan and Minnesota. Both wins at home and both teams are 7-5. The rest of their big ten schedule (not including OSU) are the teams who finished 11th or below in the Big Ten. It really was a pathetic schedule.
@shawnsingleton9808 I agree but unfortunately most of those teams dropped in rankings by the end of the year. The loss at home to Northern Illinois is just hard to justify. That should never happen. I am glad ND is in but I think they are rated too high. I hope they prove me wrong. I hope they get Alabama and get to revenge some previous embarrassments.
I’m an IU fan and I’m happy just being in the playoff. We played about as poorly as we could against OSU, turning the ball over, giving OSU perfect field position every time. That game being 2-3 TD loss is honestly kinda lucky. Think if we keep it closer we may have gotten a home game in playoff but oh well. Projected 17/18 in the B1G, winning 11 games when they haven’t won even 10 in IU’s HISTORY, IU’s season is already a massive success. Just hope we show up ready to play next time.
The injury on the O-Line before the Michigan game has definitely hurt us more than people realize. We played them and OSU pretty badly, but a couple of avoided mistakes and that game is a lot closer. Special teams gave up 2 TDs, it happens. I still think IU can compete with any team.
UGA was literally left out of the playoff last year after losing to an elite team in a close game in the SEC Championship game. They were considered the dominant team in the country going in, lost to Bama (after called catch on 4th down that led to a TD was proven to hit the ground wasn't reviewed...). UGA was the dominant 1 before the game, but fell to 6 after a very close loss in a "bonus" game. Let's not pretend it would be the first time a team was hurt playing in the conference championship game.
@@chuckcribbs3398Reasonable take. I lean the other way. Playing in and possibly winning a B1G championship is important enough to both want and play the game.
More disrespect yes Indiana lost one game to Ohio State because of two costly mistakes. So this week Ohio State loses to a five loss team Indiana beat two weeks prior. Ohio State drops four spots from 2nd to 6th while now Indiana is 10th behind them. Ohio State has two losses while other teams ahead of Indiana have three losses does that seem right to you?
Not saying OSU has a hard schedule, but IU fans need to understand the committee is punishing you for a weak schedule. How can IU fans even complain when they had 1 major test the entire year, and failed, but still get in the CFP?

If everything falls right, Indiana will play nothing but SEC teams (Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee) to win the national championship. Hell, just to get to the semi's, Indiana will have to beat 2 of the 4 SEC teams.

Record matters. But its not the only thing that matters. You can cherry pick criteria all you want, someone has to be the last team to make it,and they are all flawed.
Yes, but did you watch that game or just parrot back the result like everyone else? NIU gets 1 win if they play ND 100 times. That game turned on 1 fluke play and a team that slept walked into an upset because they clearly did not take their opponent seriously. ND went full on FAFO and found out the hard way... An incredibly lucky long TD pass to the RB on a slant (where two ND defenders knocked each other out of the play going for the ball). It ended up in an 80+ yard TD and was the only TD scored by NIU, coupled with poor offensive execution and lackadaisical overall play meant disaster was imminent. BUT...without that play, the game would have likely ended 14-9 Notre Dame - clearly an ugly win, but it hinged on a single play that couldn't turn out the same way if your reran that game for a month of Sundays! No one seriously believes that NIU was better than ND or that if the two played again it would be anything but an enormous ND rout like Purdue, Navy or Army. Think about this... despite early season struggles, Riley Leonard was THAT ONE PLAY against NIU away from being a Heisman finalist as the record setting QB of an undefeated and heading to New York as very likely the favorite to win the award based on historical hype that accompanies the QB at ND in those discussions. Brady Quinn, anyone? Leonard would be called "the right-handed Tim Tebow" and the hype would be insane!
tbh they need to ditch the conference championship auto-bids and just go by ranking. Not all conferences are the same power level, and even the strong ones will have weak years here and there, you can't predict ahead of time which conference champions will be deserving of a spot. So just get rid of it.
We went from 4 teams to 12, and we have more complaints, truth if you cant make top 12 even if its to some degree political you cant really complain, at least 8 new teams are getting a chance
IU should be up by ND. Bama should be out. Teams rankings should NOT move based upon their Conference Championship game results, win or loose, since teams that don't go to their championship don't have any risk of getting dropped. You shouldn't be punished for going to your conference championship. Boise is ranked 10 overall... if they lose, they will get knocked off for sure, that isn't fair at all.
It's the Power 2..... Only you guys have been thinking it's a Power 4. ACC and Big12 are normally 1 bid leagues if you look historically They should have jumped on the 4/2/2/1/1 when you got the chance.. Sankey was giving you a freebie. I think Miami should be ahead of Bama. I think think the winner of the Big 12 should be ahead of Boise... Not losing sleep over any of the 2. The seem to align with computer rankings.
If every Div 1 team were in the playoffs, some fans would find something to cry about. The bar in sports gets lower every year. Participation trophy for all
Ole miss and Alabama should play a play in game and who ever wins is in. I think sec and big ten should have play in for the 3-4 teams and that would allow more teams from other conferences to get an at large
If Oregon wins Texas wins and smu wins iu has a good chance, I personally think all playoff games should be a neutral sight, i think home field advantage is bad in this case. Neither team should have an advantage, it should be what team preforms better
Probably not. Ohio State, Tennessee, and Notre Dame are locked in above Indiana. You would need the conference championship loser of both the B1G and SEC championship games to fall below Indiana, which would require the committee to significantly punish teams who lost in their conference championship. You would need Oregon and Texas to both obliterate their opponents to have that happen and the committee might still not drop them far enough to get Indiana a home game.
What I would love to see is the Vegas odds of each team with 9-3 records or better playing each other. What’s is the spread on Alabama playing at BYU I wonder? Boise playing Iowa State? Arizona State playing Ole Miss? maybe let’s hand this selection process to Vegas odds makers. They would probably be the most accurate in matchups and strength of schedule and team!
Think alumni numbers, advertising profit and matchups that are perceived to draw the most viewers, that should help you understand the distorted rankings.
No understanding that these supposed experts and protectors of the sport just drag it closer and closer to self-immolation every time they open their mouths to justify the decisions they make.
We blew out Purdue 66-0. Who else did that to another Big Ten team? This was a rivalry game for Purdue and IU stuffed them the entire game. It’s incredibly hard to put up 66 points on a FBS team and shut them out.
And who woulda thought that one might claim that BYU is being discriminated against by anti-Semitic committee members - before anyone starts screaming, screeching, stomping their feet, tearing their hair out, or ripping off their pearls, this is meant to be humorous and mildly ironic, not a serious attempt to find anti-Semitism under every rock. On the other hand, it makes as much sense as whatever other pretend metric those mooks are claiming to use that will find mediocre SEC teams above superior Big 12 teams (and I say that as a fan of the SEC Florida Gators). AND I couldn't agree more about teams that shamelessly claim to be "powerhouses" scheduling flipping CUPCAKES toward the end of the season. What a joke, except the cupcake wins count for them against superior teams like, say, BYU.
SEC is the strongest... SEC only loses to the SEC during season play 9/10 times unless it's Miss St or Vandy... It should be one top 40 school league to get the truth in strength and who's most likely to be the best choices for playoffs, rankings and everything else...
Alabama Absolutely should be in because they have beaten 3 top 20 teams. Lets group the ranked teams by the # of top 20 they have beaten: 3 Wins: #5 Georgia. 10-2. They beat #2, #7, #17 #11 Alabama. 9-3. They beat #5, #14, #19 2 Wins: #1 Oregon 12-0. They beat #6 and #9 #6 Ohio St 10-2. They beat #3 and #9 #14 South Carolina 9-3. In order to do that, you will have to go through the other top teams. The best way to show that capability is to................. beat other top teams. The lists above tell us who already has proven themselves to a degree.
Maybe ND is overrated but IU sure as heck isn't underrated! IU has beaten nobody! This is the problem with these ridiculously large conferences, especially in the Big 10 where there are only 3 really high quality teams. IU played 1 of those 3 and at most 1 of the 2nd tier teams, Michigan. IU didn't have to play Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin or USC! So, they literally drew the 7 worst teams in the conference!
The writing was on the wall last week. Why do you think Alabama was ranked #13 then over more qualified teams. It was so they could slip back into the top 12 once there was a loss, and it worked out exactly like the committee wanted it to.
I think Notre Dame beat Texas A&M at Texas A&M. That’s their big win I believe but also they lost to Northern Illinois like what the heck. I can see Indiana being at #7-#8
Now spence I have been saying this 20 years . Saban and the SEC has done this for 20 plus years It’s a day of rest . Remember this comment …We could have a good record when we schedule little sisters of the poor schools their 10th game . That was Jimbo . So they started doing the same. Since They allow it .
SEC teams crying about how hard their schedule is makes me laugh - its ALWAYS the same nonsense. Georgia Tech went 8 OTs with Georgia (and without some questionable calls, probably wins that game)... Clemson was a bone-headed INT from Klubnik from OT with South Carolina...and that was after they gave up a late lead with the insane TD scramble to put Carolina ahead in the first place.... Louisville beat Kentucky, by 4 TDs, just showing that mid-level ACC teams can eviscerate mid-level to lower-tier SEC teams. Where exactly is the SEC dominance that awards 9-3 teams like Alabama credence (but NOT 9-3 Missouri or 9-3 Ole Miss)? Its a joke... Alabama gets a pass constantly and does not deserve it this year with 2 losses to teams that combined to lose 10 games this year themselves. I truly hope that Alabama gets boat-raced like they did against that juggernaut Oklahoma team a couple weeks ago.
Instead of trying to at least make it look like they are getting it right like they did with the 4 team playoff they are using the 12 team playoff to play politics. I know you hate a bigger bracket but the best way I think you can fix that is to expand to 20 teams top 12 get a bye so the bottom 8 have a play in to a 16 team bracket. Take out at least some of the human choosing the rankings. Maybe only have the committee have a say in the top 8 team placement. Write up a comprehensive computer program that takes record, scores, different stats, competition records, etc. and take the committee out of the rest of the decisions so they can’t play politics with the bottom of the bracket. 5:40
I'm pretty sure the reason Miami is out isn't analytics or who they beat/got beat by its that they lost 2 of the last 3 games and are ice cold at the end. If they had the same record but the losses was in the first half of the year and on a 6 game winning streak they'd be in
Oregon barely got by Wisconsin and was extremely LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY to have beat Oh State, Boise St and Idaho w/ OSU barely beating Nebraska, who also didn't beat a revived and playing like a top 12 team Michigan late in the season (awakened in the 2nd H against IU)...Watch IU games, don't just talk about them.
So you’re forgetting that ND beat 4 ranked opponents…. That were ranked…. Louisville, Texas AM, Army and Navy and have man handled every opponent after the NIU loss. We started #5 dropped to 18th after the NIU loss…. Name another team who dropped that many spots after a loss?? We have came out and dominated each opponent the rest of the season! 10 straight wins??? Where everyone else is crumbling as season is ending! That’s why we are at where we are!!
Been saying all along notre dame’s schedule was a joke. If they were in the big ten or sec they would be lucky to get 8,9 wins. That’s only if theyplayed the lower end of each conference. My theory is with Notre dame having a national following,it’s all about ratings in the playoffs. If that’s the case, pure bullshit
No Army is a joke , Irish best win is Louisville, Ga Tech. Indiana best win is ??? A Michigan who can’t complete a forward pass. Big 10 is not a good conference this season.
12 teams is too many; I've always said that and this year shows what a farce it is. Only 1-6 teams get it done on the field every year, and they should have a shot at it. Any team with 3 losses or that doesn't play in a conference championship doesn't deserve a shot.
@@chuckcribbs3398 Everyone has their own likes, but to me what made college football unique was that the regular seasons was like one long playoff, where every single weekend mattered. The intensity is unmatched elsewhere, and that "winner takes all" reality made rivalries even better. If my team loses to a team I hate, but still makes the playoffs, then after a while I won't care anymore. Mediocrity is awarded. As I said though, this is America, so if you prefer a 16-team format then it is what it is.
So let me get this straight. In the ACC Championship we have a Top 10 Team (SMU) vs a Top 20 Team (Clemson) If SMU wins they are obviously in as a conference champ auto bid. Simple stuff But if Clemson wins, they would need to get in as a conference champ auto bid. But you, Spencer, and others think SMU should still get in! After all, thats what the committee has said all year. That they won't punish teams that admirably make it to their conference championship. The ACC Commissioner has even said that if you are organically and naturally already in the field (the top 12) that you should stay in, even if you lose your conference championship. But over in the Mountain West, it's the same story! In the MW Championship we have a Top 10 Team (Boise State) vs a Top 20 Team (UNLV) If Boise State wins they are obviously in as a conference champ auto bid. Simple stuff But if UNLV wins, they would need to get in as a conference champ auto bid. But what about Boise State! They are already in the field and would be losing their Conference Champ to a top 20 team as a top 10 team already in the field! My point: If SMU gets to lose their conference champ game and stay in, then so does Boise State. After all, Boise State has a ranked win and SMU does not. Boise State also has the best loss out of any team in college football, by 3 to the #1 team in the country ON THE ROAD. They also out gained them. SMU lost to a two loss #18 BYU team by 3 at home.
Yeah, it was idiotically of him to say if you played in the conference championship game that the teams that are not playing have no chance to move. Well then that means the top eight are already locked in. The winners are one through four the losers are five through eight, which is stupid and isn’t going to happen. You telling me if Georgia loses and has three losses, they’re gonna stay in the top eight if Clemson loses, they won’t even be in the playoffs Arizona State won’t be in if they lose that was a stupid statement by the committee. I get the teams in conference championship game have an extra game and it’s different if both teams playing has either zero losses or one loss but when you start talking about a two lost team or more if they lose and get three losses, then you’re cooked you still may get in but not in top 8. I don’t think three lose team should get in unless there is no more teams with two losses or less & their are slots left to fill & no choice to put in 3 lose team other than that, don’t lose three games.
Doesn’t feel all brand bias…more like what have you done lately. Record matters and wins and losses late matter. CFP is imperfect, but better now than last year.
IU played poorly at OSU.. now they got the flutters out that IU now must go to Georgia (right now) and beat the Dogs at their house. They have to play mistake free and play tuff.
Since their 2nd week loss.... Again.. second week. Have won 4 ranked at the time teams. Army now only one. ND has blown away each opponent. And statistically has one of the best teams.... Imo. Top 3. And ND would spank Indiana. A&m Louisville G tech in Atlanta btw who beat Miami. Who's on the up. Army and Navy everyone talked up until they lost. And then a USC team who has 5 losses by a score. In La. Yes Notre Dame is a better team . And shouldn't be why Notre Dame.. ask why 5-8 is ahead of Indiana. Butnyes. Keep talking about NDs second week loss.
I agree with what you’re saying about Indiana vs Notre Dame. So much of this is brand and media narratives. On a positive note, at least teams like Indiana, Boise, SMU control their own destiny. I hope all 3 go far in the playoffs.
Well they screwed Fl state last year why should you expect anything else? You got to have set rules for these games or it’s gonna be more of the same every year.
I think the automatic bye for conference champs is stupid. It ruins the brackets because I’m sorry if Arizona State wins, they don’t deserve a bye and if Boise State wins, they don’t deserve bye if Clemson wins, they don’t deserve bye for sure. I think you should get an automatic birth to playoff as a conference champ, and then it goes by seeding. You know how you get rid of human perceptions and biased you bring back the BCS computers that’s going to be the fairest evaluations of any humans. Computers don’t care about what your logo is, it computes all the numbers, strength of schedule, quality wins, quality losses, the AP & the coaches poll, game control and a few other analytics, get rid of the humans and go back to the computers.
Winning a CC game means that your team played ONE MORE TEAM than the other teams, so YES - you deserve a bye to make up for that. If they lose the CC game, then the CFPC will boot them to the curb, while other teams not having to win that 13th game sit at home on their butts and move up and get into the CFP. Your logic needs revisiting.
@ no it doesn’t Arizona State don’t deserve a bye automatic bid yes but not bye week. I don’t care if you played an extra game don’t mean you deserve a bye Clemson don’t deserve a bye week they are ranked 17th. Sorry, your body of work decides if you deserve by just cause you win a conference, champ doesn’t mean you’re one of the top four best teams.
@@rickroth1836 I was actually just poking the bear. I seriously doubted that my team Clemson even be in the CFP, much less actually get a bye. 3-loss teams should not really be in the CFP IMO. But the rules allow it for Conference Champions, so maybe they have it right.
@ Yeah, that’s the rules right now. Conference champs get a bye I just think it messes the seating brackets up a bit number one seed should get the easiest route to the championship game, but the way they have it not necessarily the case. I think Clemson should be in the playoffs they won their conference they deserve to be in.
You do understand that ND dropped from #5 to EIGHTEEN!!! after NIU show me 1 team that has dropped 13 spots after a 2 point loss ..Some things never change if you're gonna lose do it early..😅 and it helps to win the biggest gm on your schedule when all the eyeballs are on you IU lost late and got blown out to a Ohio state team that just scored 10 pts...ND aint limping into the playoffs like Clemson and OSU
They lost the second game of the season to a MAC team. Still having them ranked was ridiculous when dozens of 2-0 teams with good wins weren't ranked. Inertia and recency bias are skewing the rankings. The ranking voters need to be willing to complete rewrite the rankings early in the season based on new information and also continue to keep the whole schedule relevant late in the season. They are somehow failing at both.
UNLV beat Kansas, how did Kansas do against Iowa St. ? We could do this all day. Big 12 didn't have a problem until they started losing games they should have won. Stop whining
Indiana beat bottom dweller Purdue 66-0 last week. While Georgia allowed bottom dweller Miss St. 31 points, UMass 21 pts, and couldn't even play football until the 4th qtr last week against GA Tech to eek out a win in 8 overtimes. Oh yeah... These were all home games btw. Indiana will own these posers.
@@2Muffins_in-an_Oven GA tech would beat purdue by 40. You also cant ignore the whole season. Fact is, IU hasn't played anybody other than OSU and they lost. Spencer, I try to model my projected CFP based on what the CFP has done in the past using the criteria that they claim to use. I don't currently think that Indiana will be ranked in the top 12 on Sunday. I want to be clear. I'm not saying that I wouldn't rank them in the top 12, I'm saying that I don't think the CFP should based on their history. You mentioned Notre Dame. When I compare Notre Dame to Indiana, I see that Notre Dame currently has 6 Quality wins to Indiana's 1. Notre Dame also has 1 Top 25 win to Indiana's 0. Both teams have 1 loss. The problem is that only 1 of Indiana's wins came against a team with a winning record, and they have 0 wins against teams in the top 25. This is NOT the resume of a playoff team. I suspect that with only 1 loss, that the committee will find a place in the playoff for them, although I don't think that they earned it.

What is so insane about Cignetti's achievements? He brought in proven players, changed the attitude of the Indiana fans, and showed college football how to win. If I had a multimillion-dollar company, I would get him to manage it.

Everyone laughed at FSU last year for being mad we were left out at 13-0.
Bama shouldn't be ANYWHERE NEAR the playoff after getting BOAT RACED by a bad Oklahoma team!!!! Makes NO SENSE!!!
ND lost to a MAC team AT HOME!

@ we will see I still don’t see it they took that in consideration when they did the this list yesterday
tbh they need to ditch the conference championship auto-bids and just go by ranking.

It's called big team bias
It's the Power 2..... Only you guys have been thinking it's a Power 4.
ACC and Big12 are normally 1 bid leagues if you look historically
They should have jumped on the 4/2/2/1/1 when you got the chance.. Sankey was giving you a freebie.
I think Miami should be ahead of Bama. I think think the winner of the Big 12 should be ahead of Boise... Not losing sleep over any of the 2. The seem to align with computer rankings.

Ole miss and Alabama should play a play in game and who ever wins is in. I think sec and big ten should have play in for the 3-4 teams and that would allow more teams from other conferences to get an at large
Is there a viable path for Indiana to secure a home playoff game?
If Oregon wins Texas wins and smu wins iu has a good chance, I personally think all playoff games should be a neutral sight, i think home field advantage is bad in this case. Neither team should have an advantage, it should be what team preforms better
@Ari-tp1lx Thank you for your thoughts.
@@JohnInfante83 Thank you sir !
In a perfect world with college football flex scheduling, both ND and IU would drop Purdue from their schedules, and play eaxh other instead.
It’s not just record. It’s strength of schedule.
Strength of schedule comparable to penn state, and a bunch of other teams
What I would love to see is the Vegas odds of each team with 9-3 records or better playing each other. What’s is the spread on Alabama playing at BYU I wonder? Boise playing Iowa State? Arizona State playing Ole Miss? maybe let’s hand this selection process to Vegas odds makers. They would probably be the most accurate in matchups and strength of schedule and team!
Absolutely no 3 loss team should be in the playoff.

Notre Dame lost to NIU. I agree. Not a slap at NIU. ND always gets the benefit of the doubt.
Who beat you is more important because you have to play your schedule.
Most of the non conference games the SEC played were cupcakes. The teams were willing to get a loss to cash the SEC check.

As a football fan, I want all of the teams in the playoff to be capable of winning the championship.
ND had a lot of key wins. Texas A&M, GT, Army and USC. Alot of people have these weird SEC goggles on.
All of these opinions will be tested in the CFP. Until then, our words do not matter.
The writing was on the wall last week. Why do you think Alabama was ranked #13 then over more qualified teams. It was so they could slip back into the top 12 once there was a loss, and it worked out exactly like the committee wanted it to.
Yep
AMEN INDIANA SHOULD BE RANKED AHEAD OF NOTRE DAME.
You cannot reward a week strength of schedule or everyone will schedule garbage. ND is always overrated. IU should be the last team in.
When clemson wins and smu is still in playoffs Alabama will be out looking in!
I just love the big12 crying
Compare SMU to Indiana and Notre Dame. Looks a lot alike, esp when you compare games against Louisville.
I didn't think they could screw up 12 teams, but I was way wrong. 16? 24
Tennessee will not get a home game because VOLS are the #1 travel team and every one wants to get to see the great Rockytop come to there town

Army and Navy are NOT quality wins.
Alabama are you serious,Miami should be here,Indiana top 5
indiana has beaten literally no one and got absolutely demolished in their only real game
They might as well take it to 16 teams and be there that would get 4 more in
No Army is a joke , Irish best win is Louisville, Ga Tech.
Every other division has a 16 team playoff. Div 1 should also
@@chuckcribbs3398 Everyone has their own likes, but to me what made college football unique was that the regular seasons was like one long playoff, where every single weekend mattered.
In the ACC Championship we have a Top 10 Team (SMU) vs a Top 20 Team (Clemson)
If SMU wins they are obviously in as a conference champ auto bid. Simple stuff
But if Clemson wins, they would need to get in as a conference champ auto bid.
In the MW Championship we have a Top 10 Team (Boise State) vs a Top 20 Team (UNLV)
If Boise State wins they are obviously in as a conference champ auto bid. Simple stuff
But if UNLV wins, they would need to get in as a conference champ auto bid.

My XMas gift is under the tree. Oregon losing.. can’t wait!
