While it might be easier today to do a rollback, history reports today make that fraud also much easier to detect such that it would only attempted on a limited group of cars. Anytime a car goes in for service, gets a state inspection or is sold at auction, the mileage is reported, so you have to find a car that was likely owner serviced and or from a state that doesn't have inspections and sold privately, or just hope a buyer doesn't bother with a history report.
It may sound like nothing but I like to take a good look at the condition of the brake peddle before anything. If it’s all used up I walk away , I hate brake dancers & a low mileage car shouldn’t have worn out rubber on the peddles
To anybody that's NOT mechanically inclined, I highly recommend that you take the car to a trusted mechanic for him to check it out. BEFORE you buy.. It might cost you $100 of his time, but it could save you thousands in the long run. If paying $100 for an inspection is an issue for you, you probably shouldn't be in the market for a car. Just take the bus.
