I have never noticed Simeon’s specific praise of Jesus, that He is “a light to the nations” and “the glory of Israel” (Lk 2:32). Yesterday, we saw John describe Jesus as the light that came into the world to bring life, and that He is the glory of God. There’s something true and real, a spiritual depth, that Jesus is light, life, glory, and Logos. Simeon understood Jesus’ purpose, and at the place (the Temple) where God’s glory overwhelmed Solomon at the Temple dedication a thousand years earlier, Simeon knows that God’s glory has returned and is powerful to transform us and save us in ways we never could understand.

TBR is very special to us. We began on 1-1-2024. Although my husband suffered a stroke early on Sunday morning (9-29-24), I am drawn to the continuation of the these readings & awesome recap. GOD’s word is my reality. To begin each day in scripture adds strength to my trust, especially when life is chaotic on so many levels right now. THANKS Tara-Leigh ❤️

Today's genealogy list was the first one that I was able to follow and recognize the majority of names. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Praise God! I know that there is importance to the genealogies, but they are hard to follow on my first and second trips through the Bible. Time in scripture is having an enormous effect on me and in my life. I see it throughout all of my days, from my waking moments, in my special time in the morning reading, to my time in going to bed. I see God working on me and in my interaction with my loved ones and with strangers. God is working!
The Bible is a Living Word. I see so much more on this second year than in the first, and I believe God will only continue to reveal more to me every year.
Lord, I pray that I continue to read the Bible every day, every year for the rest of my life. I know you will multiply the rewards and the Joy each year. In Jesus name, Amen!

I can’t even imagine 400 years of God not speaking to His people. WOW like total silence. He spoke to individuals like Simeon who “knew” Him but not as a collective as with the prophets of old. I am so grateful to be born in such a time as this. To be able to have Jesus as my savior and live with the Holy Spirit in me. Knowing that there is nothing that can separate me from Him ever again. Jesus my Lord and Savior His praises will constantly be in my lips 🙌

Wonderful teaching as always TLC! I am a little saddened to see how many people feel the need to try to pick apart every "mistake" they hear. None of us are Jesus, so none of us are flawless. We are all just doing the best we can and getting SO many things wrong along the way. Tara Leighs ministry is ABSOLUTELY helping many many people to understand Scripture better. Sure, probably not 100 percent "perfectly", but certainly much better.

I used to skip over the genealogy when reading Matthew, but now having read through the whole Bible so many times, each one of those names has a history associated with them. Also, to me it shows how important Joseph as an earthly was to Jesus. I am not adopted nor do I have adopted kids, but I could see how encouraging this could be for both.

I love the Word. This is all amazing about the early days of Jesus. But I’ve read this dozens and dozens of times. I laughed when I read this verse in Luke 2:47:
“And all those who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭47‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
Why did I laugh? Because Jesus has wandered off from his earthly family and is at the temple just chilling with the rabbis and prophets and other learned men and women at the temple. He’s just straight up schooling them on the Word and his knowledge of God.
I get the mental image of Jesus as a 12 year old just being like “Well actually…” or “Hmmm…I don’t know about that…” or “Good point, but let’s look at it like this…”. It just makes me smile. I love this. I love you Jesus.

In the past I have read about the encounters with angels and the various responses (Elizabeth’s prophecy over Mary, the Magnificat, Zacharias’ prayer…) as just part of the story.
Today, I realized just how much angelic encounters and singing there was. Of course! This was about the promised Messiah! The Son of God coming to earth! This is a Really Big deal! Gods plan coming to fruition, all the details being orchestrated - how exciting! All of heaven was in on it! What an honor for Gabriel to be the messenger! What an honor for the heavenly choir!
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound! Oh what a wonderful Savior!
Thank You, God. Thank You for opening my heart, mind and spirit to the beauty of Your truth and giving me just a small glimpse of Your plan.

Think about God the Father’s character, Who brings His Son to earth, knowing that He will be that sacrificial lamb, foretold to shepherds who raise sacrificial lambs. No human father would choose to bring a child into the world, knowing that he or she would die a hard death. God is Immanuel, God with us, because He knows first hand what it means to lose a child for a greater glory and a fulfilled hope (Jer 29:11).

Both the sacrificial lamb set apart for use at the temple and Jesus were wrapped in swaddling cloth.
    The perfect sacrificial lamb.

Again I say that Tara-Leigh Cobble is a woman of God that according to ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15‬ (‭KJV‬‬) has studied and studying to shew herself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
    God bless you.
And concerning today's bible reading my God Shot is in Luke 2:14.
Remember in Revelation 12:12 ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12:12‬B ‭(KJV‬‬) ........Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
    BUT NOW
    Jesus Christ has come and
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:13‭-‬14‬ ‭KJV‬‬
[13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, [14] Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men.
    Other Verse To Meditate On:
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:52‬ ‭KJV‬‬
[52] And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Has a follower of Christ you can increase in wisdom, stature and favour with God and men.

Hi Tara, I was so interested in the newborn lambs being swaddled that I had to look more into it. Unfortunately, I’ve found that many others have tried to research this and to find biblical and otherwise historic reference to this practice and it’s really just led to it being likely a Christian tourism invention. Could you speak to this and explain where the evidence comes from? I had never heard it before and instantly had goosebumps at the connection to sacrificial lambs. But of course if it’s indeed an invention of 20th century Christianity in an attempt to bolster Biblical truths, it can be harmful to those searching, and then finding fabrication. I wholeheartedly know that’s not your intention. I just wanted to bring it to your attention in case it hadn’t been brought to you already.

Whenever God gives us a list in the Bible, we should always look for what’s missing from the list. For example we often see a list of the 12 tribes, but the lists don’t all contain the same tribes. The missing name is relevant to the subject being taught. Matthew’s list is missing 3 names. Those 3 names are relevant. God didn’t squeeze the list to make it convenient.

    • @sarahko2014
      @sarahko2014 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I always heard that when LORD is in all-caps it's referring to Jehovah God or YAHWEH. In the New Testament, Lord is used to refer to Jesus which can also be translated as "Master".

    • @spitzegraphics3238
      @spitzegraphics3238 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

The all-caps LORD is used only in the Old Testament. It is a substitute for the Hebrew name of God (Yahweh), letting you know where in the Hebrew text that name is used. In the OT, "Lord" is used in place of "Adonai," which means "master" or "Lord." The whole point is to distinguish Yahweh from Adonai in the original language.
In the New Testament, the Greek language does not use the name of God, so no need to use "LORD."

    • @spitzegraphics3238

Probably because the various chapters have overlap. John 1 goes back to creation, which precedes Jesus' birth. But the chapter includes him as an adult also. I'm assuming they didn't want to chop up the chapters, so we have some chronological jumping around.

“But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭25‬ ‭NLT‬‬. “Until” implies that there were relations after He was born.

I thought Jewish ancestry was traced through the mothers line.

No. It’s pretty clear in the Old Testament especially when you get to the twelve tribes and inheritance. I believe what you’re are referring to is Jewish tradition with regards to being Jewish which some say requires having a Jewish mother. But the point is Joseph isn’t really Jesus’ biological father anyway. So even with regards to the tradition Jesus is clearly Jewish because of Mary’s Jewishness. Jesus’ matrilineal line is covered in Luke 3 which is coming up. 🙂

This how people have created practices that weren’t Biblical but an additional “paternity/maternity” accountability test adopted culturally.

I think Jesus got spanked by Joseph for being missing for 3 days, which is why we don't see Joseph again. 😄

    What happened to Joseph?

Wood was around more than you are saying. Joseph was a carpenter and so was Jesus. That would be a bad way to make a living if there wasn't at lot of wood around. Remember Solomon's Temple was made of wood, not stone. Wood was definitely around, and the manger could very well be wooden. I'm not sure why this was mentioned. The materials weren't mentioned in the bible, so it shouldn't be our focus anyway.

What makes you think Jesus was a carpenter? Some Bible translations say that, but the translated word can mean stonemason or builder. The wood you mention in Solomon's temple was imported. It's unlikely that normal houses would have been made of wood. Excavations of biblical dwellings show them made of stone. Hope this helps.

@@spitzegraphics3238 I have a concordance that lists the possibility of Jesus and Joseph being stone masons. The Hebrew word and accounts do point out that they made a living being stone masons.

    Luke 2:51 ESV
[51] "And he [Jesus] went down with them [His parents] and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. . . ."
Jesus did not disobey. The scriptures do not say that He was told to meet at a certain place or that they would be leaving at a certain time. So, He didn't disobey; He did not sin.
The scriptures DO say Jesus was submissive (obedient) to His parents.

The Bible shows that it’s at least 400 to 500 years between Perez and Rahab (Matt 1:4-5), yet in Matthew, only 5 generations are listed. Then, there’s another 400 years between Rahab and David, but only 3 intervening generations listed. TLC is pointing out that scholarship understands that Jewish historical accounts use numbers for a spiritual purpose.

In the Bible Mary is called the “Mother of Jesus”. She is never called the Mother of Joseph’s children. I have never seen the Bible say that Joseph knew Mary. Joseph, according to the Protoevangelium, was an elderly widow who had already had other children. When Jesus was dying on the cross He instructed James to take Mary as his mother and instructed his mother to take James as her son because she could not return to her husband’s children’s house without her son since Joseph too had died. Mary was very young, younger than Joseph’s children. Jesus had brothers but Mary did not have other children according to the Protoevangelium of James.
