omgggg, so Girls’ Generation, the OG queens of kpop, literally the nation’s girl group (the name given to them by koreans) original a 9 member group, became 8 after late 2014 with Jessica’s departure, and currently as of 2017/2018 5 members are still signed to SM making them a sub - unit Oh!GG but the other girls are still part of the group, welcome to the girls generation rabbit hole lol i literally been a SONE since 2010 right before run devil run era which starts right at the end of the Oh! mv lol🥲

The thing with Girls Generation is every comeback's concept is different. They can fit into any concept and that's part of the fun. They're not boring and each member is charismatic with her own charm.
I started listening to KPop since the days of SES and BoA. SNSD is still the best girl group for me.

GIRLS' GENERATION is like the textbook for girl groups!
The South Korean idol industry has always been oriented towards boy groups. But during SNSD's "Gee" and "Genie", boy groups were defeated and vice versa, people were attracted to SNSD. During that time, ALL IDOLS CANNOT WIN AGAINST SNSD.
Twice, Blackpink, and Red Velvet may be top female idols now, but they can't win against EXO or BTS. But during SNSD's golden year, SNSD HAD DESTROYED ALL IDOL MEN like Super Junior, Big Bang, TVXQ, 2PM. Only SNSD girl groups can win Album of the Year at the Golden Disk Award.
One of the stories that I love is that when SNSD announced their comeback for The Boys, other groups had to push back their own comebacks just to get out of its way.

I’m 32 and I still listen to Girls’ Generation because they’re the first group I ever stan since 2009 when I was 19.

First Generation girl groups had 3-5 members, and of the 14 groups that debuted between 1997 and 2007, half of them disbanded after 2-3 years. Many industry insiders and k-pop fans assumed a 9-member girl group was destined to disappear in 2 years.
10 months after their debut, at the 2008 Dream Concert SNSD were 'boycotted' by almost all of the 50,000+ k-pop fans attending---an unprecedented event that has gone down in history as "The Black Ocean'.
Five years later SNSD returned to the Dream Concert and created another unprecedented scene when the entire stadium was united in support of SNSD, where the fans sang along so loudly and enthusiastically they drowned-out the girls and the official recording of their performance had to be remixed.
SNSD broke, and set, all kinds of records, not just for girl-groups but for ANY k-pop group. They smashed the domination of male groups in sales, #1's, music video views and in popularity and artistic awards. All this produced the popular expression "as expected, they're SNSD"
Other K-Pop agencies learned to adjust their artists' comeback schedules to avoid competing directly with SNSD.
They were made cultural ambassadors by the Korean government, and earned the titles "The Queens of K-Pop, the "President of the Army" , "The Nation's Girl Group" and most appropriately "The Legendary SNSD", and they are the reason that so many 3rd and 4th Generation girl groups were formed.
SNSD also produced the most commercially and artistically successful female sub-unit in K-Pop, called TaeTiSeo or TTS, comprised of Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun.
Not only have they been tremendously successful and admired as a group, they are also individually very successful.
Leader Taeyeon is known as 'The OST Queen' and is often called 'King' Taeyeon, as she's regarded as probably the best female vocalist in K-Pop. She's also known as "The Idols' Idol" because so many other idols have said as much.
Yoona, famed for her beauty, is known as "The CF Queen" because she's done so many commercials. She's also become a very good actress, as have Yuri ( who has also become quite the chef) and Seohyun.
Sooyoung is IMHO a somewhat under-rated actress, but like Yoona she is very successful as a model...and she's also famously 'savage'.
Hyoyeon is rated as possibly the best dancer in K-pop and is a favorite of Western European fans.
Jessica ( who left SNSD in late 2014) is still a fairly active solo-singer and runs her own international fashion business.
Tiffany became a solo singer+songwriter in 2017 and did US and Asian concert tours before returning to Korea, where she's since been performing in the musical Chicago, and as a mentor on Girls Planet 999.
Sunny is known as "the Variety Queen" and is the self-proclaimed "sexiest" member.

One of my first ever girl groups! You are in for a treat with their music! Some of the MV's are definitely "of the time they were made" but they are still fun, vibrant, colorful, and a treat! I do recommend checking out the LIVE VERSION of Into the New World which is emotional as hell but you can hear all the emotions in their voice but absolutely check out one of the ABOUT SNSD videos to learn more, they are Queens who helped shape so many girl groups.
In the Boys video, the lady with the pixie cut hair in the red outfit is I believe Sunny and one of the lead Vocalists of SNSD.

gee is so much nostalgia to me. back then when i was a teenager and didnt even know what kpop was, gee was everywhere on the internet. you didnt even have proper internet or smart phones, you downloaded that shit forever and then listened on an ipod or something lol what a time

The "west" or mostly the US missed out the K-POP explosion during what is termed as the "golden age" of the KPOP generations, which is the second generation. But during that time the second generation boy and girl groups was very popular in most of Asia and some parts of Europe and South America. That's when the time that SNSD is the top GG. They're basically the seniors of GGs of the 3rd gen like Red Velvet (which is their junior in the same company), TWICE, and Blackpink. As of this moment many are saying that we're moving now to the 4th gen yet still we could feel the impact of SNSD as the top Kpop GG.
Finally you are reacting to SNSD/Girls Generation, they are the REAL standard of KPop GirlGroups, till this day many new KPop Groups still choosing them as role models, and the best thing is that they are a group created by SM Ent (same company as NCT, aespa, Red Velvet, Exo, SHINee, Super Junior/SUJU, TVXQ, BoA, SuperM, etc)

(2010), you can find both fairly easy on sites like ebay etc, & not that expensive.. funfact: Oh! was the first korean album ever to include photocards as we know them today so kind of a historical album 😌 but that means unfortunately no pc for the gee mini (or any album prior to Oh!)

Gee wasn't meant to be their title track, both SNSD and Mercy bought the rights to a song and Duffy released her version called Mercy first, so SNSD scrapped Dancing Queen and made Gee the title track. They released Dancing Queen's MV years later as a treat to fans, but honestly i'm happy Gee came to be as its seen as a staple in kpop, and basically every girl group has covered it.

Their source are here 32:20. "Run devil run" represents the drastic change in concept from SNSD. From this on has a more mature/sexy concept and slightly less cuty.

They debuted as 9 members in 2007 and due to an issue with the company SM Jessica left the company and the group in late 2014 and you can imagine how was the fandom feeling in that time but we learned to move on and keep on supporting the girls
Girls Generation have two subunits ( TaeTiSeo or TTS ) Taeyeon , Tiffany , Seohyun 💖 and as for Oh GG is also a subunit but it's like formed with the only 5 members left under SM after Tiffany , Seohyun and Sooyoung left SM in 2017 to focus on their own careers singing and acting , and the (h GG members are : Taeyeon , Sunny , Yuri , Yoona , Hyoyeon

Gee is a legendary song it's bubbly and catchy and Taeyeon didn't like it at first but the song ended up breaking records and wining trophies and it was made as a ringtone in phones i remember in that time , And many girl groups are still covering this song until now

Pixie cut is Sunny and she's always been my bias. The bit at the end of "Oh!" was "Run Devil Run". The last MVs they released as a full group were "Holiday" and "All Night". Their debut was "Into the New World" and has been sung at protests, civil rights marches, and even blared over the DMZ. SNSD is my favorite group and I wasn't aware of your channel until the algorithm recommended this video :D

6:57 The reason why people think kpop is like that is because of Gee it was viral across the Asia and internet back in the day, like in a way Gangam style was viral, yes social media wasnt like it was later on but people knew that song, so when they thought of kpop they imagined cute Gee. No wonder people even vote it for as a song of decade. They had 9 awards with Gee in 2009 one for each girl😂
And for Gangam Style year for SNSD it was I Got A Boy era, which says a lot, and they won TH-cam Video Awards with it that year not to mention other impact they had back then.

Nowadays the closest thing you get to this, is "high teen" concept (Weeekly - Tag Me/After School, STAYC - ASAP/Stereotype, Wooah - Don't Miss U/Catch the Stars, etc). And yes, it's definitely a serotonin rush 🤗

Girls Generation always makes me go and listen to BEG. I did so as I finished you watching SNSD. (Which leads me to 2ne1 and then I cry.) SNSD is the era I ended up listening to Kpop at first. I listened to a lot of Jrock/Pop and Mandopop. Watching this was very nostalgic!
Also as another Easter Egg the climax of "I Got a Boy" also mixes all of the styles they put together in the song to show you that not only can they do all of the genres, they can also do them at the same time.
Gee is so iconic and addictive. It single handedly kept me awake enough through my first year in post-sec to study.

And The Boys was the start of the girl crush/girl power concepts. They pioneered a lot in girl groups! Keep with it, they are legendary for good reason!!

Fun fact about Gee: It was written and produced by a duo called E-Tribe. They had such success with Gee that they founded their own company, Happy Face Entertainment. Happy Face debuted their own 5 member girl group called Minx, which flopped. But Minx was rebooted with 2 more members as Dreamcatcher! Everything in Kpop is connected.

The other girls generation member in GOT is Hyoyeon their main dancer, and they kind of did her dirty as they often didn’t take advantage of her skills early on.
