- Shhhh! It's quiet trains! In this video, you will find trains passing by with no horns blaring or bells clanging. This video is intended for people who like to see the trains go by but don't want to hear as much of the loud noises that often accompany them. If it is popular, I may release more like this in the future.

I love how not blowing the horn is enough for a train to be considered quiet in the USA. In Switzerland (one of the most railway-focused nations), any train noisier than a Toyota Prius driving over gravel is considered loud.

I live in Alberta, Canada and my town prohibits the horns except in an emergency. People seem to like it that way and the rail line is fenced.
Markham Ontario prohibits the horns even in an emergency. Stupid idea.

It was a few years back, but I think it was traveling from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles.

This video helped me to understand how people could get hit by trains without hearing them approach first.
I like this video a lot. Though I am not a big fan of the silent zone laws. Like, really people. they are giant machines with more horse power than a semi truck. Of course they are going to be loud. It is so that way you know they are coming and that you get out of the way. Like. I even prove my point with a lot of these trains now a days. With modern locomotives becoming more and more quite. and rails being melded together. You need a train horn to notify you a train is coming.
People living next to rail lines don't care. They see the need to dictate how railroads work because their peace and vanity is more important than public safety. They think they're community heroes, but really they should all be charged with involuntary manslaughter everytime someone is hit and killed by a train in a quiet zone.
BNSF1995 those people that claim that peace & vanity is so important love to come up with dangerous, dumb, stupid, idiotic laws stating no train horns are allowed in many cities & towns, but won't complain about loud music such as that crap music, hard rock music, loud power tools, lawn mowers, riding tractors, weed whackers & blowers and motor cycles.

California Rail Productions Thanks Nathaniel! It was actually quite hard for me to find enough clips where there was no horn or bell! It seems like most of the time the bells are ringing, at least for the passenger trains.
CoasterFan2105 Tip: Record clips specifically for this series away from crossings, then use those. I still think this series might have went a tad bit TOO overboard. I still like your videos, though. :]
Thanks. It was just a test. Since I post something every week now, I have to try different things to see if people will like it. The good news is that it's never more than a week until the next video!

I understand the concept of no horns, but some people are so stupid. They don't hear it, it's not coming.

That was just the standard intro I was using at the time. It was about 20 seconds long. The current one is only about 7.

I feel like this video is an interesting concept, but on a personal level I prefer to have the whistle/horn/bell.
On a different note, which locomotive is shown at 4:41 that has the SD70ACe radiators but looks like a GP otherwise?
pittsburgh railfan It's called an EMD PR30C, rebuilt from an older ex-Soo Line SD40-2. That big fan in the middle is what I'm guessing to be the Tier 3 compliant emissions systems it is equipped with.

Но самое главное все 11 минут От локомотивов не одного сигнала хотя в начале и в конце ролика у тебя сигналили локомотивы в заставках (ЭТО ШУТКА). Я слышал что у вас в Штатах существуют тихие зоны где сигнал подавать запрещено. А то обычно когда просматриваешь ролики на переездах всегда тепловозы сигналят. Видео замечательное. If I was there in person, and not being hearing impaired, or wearing noise cancelling headphones, would I not hear all of the generated noise? What's all of the fuss about? If someone doesn't wish to hear the train's noises emitting from your posted videos on your You Tube channel, then they should just turn down the sound to off
Timothy M There are some people who have mentioned in the past that they like to see and hear the trains but they would like to hear the horn less. This was a test to see what people would think of a "quiet trains" video.

Since there are many places nationwide that won't allow the train horns & bells to sound when the train is arriving and leaving a station, approaching a railroad crossing, how about telling people
who go blasting very loud crap music, very loud hard rock music, very loud power tools such as blowers, lawn mowers that they have to be quiet at the same time. Tell the airlines that the planes have to be quiet as well.

TheIdahoGamer TRAINS It's called a PR30C built by Progress Rail. Basically, it's an SD40 that has been remoter and received some special equipment to reduce emissions.
