  • Did anyone else watch the Sewing Bee this week? They had a challenge where they used fabrics scraps and organza to create beautiful bags!
    I create something similar but using a collage technique which is something I show you how to do in this video - so grab those pesky scraps and let's get making!
    I was initially inspired by ‪@fromcarlyb‬ on Instagram who created a dress using a similar technique! So thank you for inspiring this collage style that I use for my crossbody bags!

    I love your birdie bag. I’d love to see a full video or pattern for that style bag. Even if it’s made from just a “boring” plain piece of fabrics. Of course scraps make It so much more fun. ✂️

Thanks for showing this in detail and the bird panel turned out wonderfully.❤ It is a very ressource saving and thoughtful way of using scraps (or unwanted/ugly fabrics). So happy to see a new video. Loved the “malarkey” statement. It’s disappointing you didn’t get on, but sometimes we aren’t quite ready for full out fame and your time will come.
    I’m an old school seamstress, usually used patterns but I’m in the process of throwing caution to the wind and about to make a tea towel dress or tunic of my own. You have truly inspired this old dog to learn new tricks. Excited and nervous at the same time.
    Thanks for the lesson. I’m also an embroiderer. I think embroidering features on the bird or whatever the main element is would be lovely. I have too many WIPs in the works to do it now, but it’s in my project ideas for the future for sure.

    First time watcher here. I love this technique. Have seen something with a similar idea but it was pieced and sewn before using the organza. Using scraps as the “filler” is bonus. I do like that guide but I’m not sure I can give up my good ol’ painter’s tape. One strip down, sew one line, move tape & butt it up against sew line, place the tape down and sew again etc. I like that for grids and straight quilting. Since I use painters tape in my painting and other crafts I always have it handy in 3 sizes. And the sticky is just enough to hold it but not enough to leave residue. Does not work well on extra fluffy quilts tho. Mind you I just looked up this gadget and it’s quite inexpensive so maybe I’ll have to try it. Good video & oh how I envy your organization lol!

    • @afrayed_upcycling
      @afrayed_upcycling  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have been a sewer and quilter for 4-5 decades and I have gone to a workshop where I learnt how to colour with fabric 'crumbs', using a very similar technique without the organza. I always RR&R and currently I'm doing that with paper, paint & ink to make journals.

    I love your videos. At 49 I'm completely new to using a sewing machine. Can you do this design on a normal sewing machine or does it have to be an industrial?

      Ohhh sewing is so much fun, you’re gonna love it!! You absolutely can with a normal machine, I would suggest getting a thicker needle ☺️

    Hi, I’m a beginner sewer (like very beginner). I want to make more projects but don’t know where to start.

      Depends what kind of things you want to sew!☺️ I started off small, buying basic patterns which shower different techniques and fastenings, then slowly gained my confidence that way!✨ please remember that as annoying as they are, mistakes happen all the time and it’s totally fine - it’s a learning curve each time!🌸

      Isn’t repurposing and upcycling the same definition? Honestly didn’t know there was a difference?

    why so many layers of fabric on the base? isn't that a waste in itself?

      I think it depends on the way you look at it! I have sooo many scraps, so if it means being able to use it in a product rather than stuffed in a cushion, I prefer that ☺️

    Love your videos, so inspiring! I wonder how you finish the raw edges on the inside of the bag? With a binding or just overlocking?

    • @afrayed_upcycling
      @afrayed_upcycling  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just overlocking but you can definitely add binding to it! ☺️
