Living in a MODERN apartment in AUSTRIA | Cost of Living

  • I finally left my cheap old apartment to live in a modern, green, cozy and quiet apartment in Linz - Austria. I lived 2 years in a shoebox in the city center, which was very noisy due to the railway, very hot because it was small and in the last floor and now I am finally enjoying my time in this new neighbourhood in Linz called Dornach.
There are other green areas in the city but Dornach is my favourite. It is very near to the University Johannes Kepler (JKU Linz) and well served by public transportation.
Just behind the university there is a nice trail called Pferdeeisenbahn, which I made a video of and it is just like 10mins from the apartment. You should check it out!

How are you doing Rômulo? Lovely place you've got! Thank you so much for these videos. I'm reaching out to you because I may actually move to Linz, so I'm actually going to visit the city specifically towards the end of the first quarter of next year or around the beginning of Q2, so that's why I've been researching the city, and Austria in general, but I'm a little concerned about the language barrier. Of course I'm ready and willing to learn German, and I'm going to get started on that, but just in case, I'd like to know whether I can get by speaking English in Linz while I'm learning German. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this!

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey! Yeah you can totally get by speaking only English.. You might find some barriers at the city hall or when speaking with realtors and maintenance people, though.. So if you learn very basic German before moving it will be extremely helpful! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos 😉

    Hi Romulo,
I am not sure if you will see this message as the video is quite old, but I will try to reach out to you anyways.
I am seeking advice on moving to Austria, and maybe you could help me or tell me where to look for the right answer.
I am currently living in Ireland and would like to move with my family to Austria.
I would be keeping my Irish job and would work remotely from Austria, but the first issue I came across is the certificate for permanent residence, there are few option on which basis you can apply, but they don't seem to include my situation at all. Would you know how is this working in regards to a person who lives in Austria and earns the income abroad? I would pay the difference in taxes in Austria, but would that make me an Austrian employee?
I am just confused cause I would like to get public health insurance for my family and the residence permit to be legally registered there, but I am not sure if with the set up I would have that is possible. Would you know anything about those things or maybe you know where to go to get answers for it?
    I would appreciate any advice.
By the way, I love your new apartment , that is something I would as well to live in.
    Kind Reagrds,
    Magda

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Magda! I've met a few people in your situation and I know it's possible, however, I'm not familiar with the process and I'd recommend you to get in contact directly with the Austrian tax bureau for the details... I don't think you'd be considered an Austrian employee, though. Also, I believe you'd need to hold an European citizenship to be able to do that. But I'm not an expert, so I'd definitely recommend you to get in touch with the government or some tax advisor. Sorry for not being able to help more but that's a bit of a complicated topic 😅

      @maggiep6986 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@ Thank you for your reply. It's good to know that you have seen people in similar situation and it did work out for them., I will keep chasing for answers with tax advisor before making final decision. Thank you again . Magda

Thanks for the tour and such an informative video. Would like to ask how can I contact Dornarch and reserve one unit and get a contract for visa application? I'm from Philippines. Thanks in advance for your help. God be you more!

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Rowena! Unfortunately, it's very hard to close a rental contract not in person in Austria. You can search for properties at Willhaben.at and try to find some real estate agency willing to do that, but it won't be easy. I tried myself and it didn't work, I had to spend a week in a hotel to visit some properties and finally close a contract. It's worth a try, though. Maybe you're the lucky one 😉

I don't want a big house but if the bedroom was a different room would be nice. also is my calculation correct would I need around 1400 euros as my expenses per month? (including rent)
    thanks in advance,

    •  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well it’s not a scam, you pay more for the area and for being in a brand new and modern looking building, it’s actually cheaper than the Bruckner Tower for example… I was willing to pay premium for a better standard of living…
