Lady Rong is held prisoner by the Emperor. He’s never been rejected by a woman before and can’t wrap his head around it. He can’t cope with the reality that some woman would not desire and care for him. Ruyi recognizes that he is living in a fantasy and the words he speaks to her about his like and love for Rong and her body are like stabs in Ruyi’s heart and she’s repelled by the Emperor. Ruyi is the only one who has sympathy for Rong’s plight - everything that’s happening isn’t her fault. She encourages the Emperor to see Rong’s feelings, but he thinks only of himself. She’s seen the true face and heart of the Emperor (her lover of youth days) as he is now and realizes he is forever lost to her.
"She sought death from her torment, the sorrow of a woman. I hope one day you can understand how she feels." I hope he remembered and reflected on this after Ruyi dies, because that felt like the same feeling of pain for him. Can't say I think he did though.
Ruyi isn't the only one seeing the true face of the Emperor. He is holding those people hostage. His continuing generosity is based on her giving in to his desires. His forcing of that girl is repulsive.
The Emperor knows Princess Xiangjian will never love him, still he pursues his obsession with possessing her body, even though it is against her will, and he has the audacity to claim he "likes" her and he "loves" her. He manipulates and lies to her. His fixation costs him the only true relationship he has - once Ruyi sees him as he really is, she can never forget. Princess Xiangjian never grows to love him. His harem loses respect for him. He must face the betrayal of Consort Ling, and the realization she easily manipulated him into accusing, punishing, and killing innocents. Ruyi leaves him, in this life and her next lives. In the end he is unloved and completely alone.

He seems so happy and thoughtful, and then my stomach turns when I remember she's being "pampered" against her will. Most of the other consorts just see she's getting attention and are cold to her. Yes! I agree with your statement! Almost everyone present saw the emperor's disgusting face! It's shameless!

14:12 Ruyi herself is wearing similar style clothing!
The emperor must wear yellow to identify himself.
