The Volvo D5 engine is more like a truck engine instead of a car diesel in my opinion 😅 But its on of the greatest car diesels ever made. I have a 2007 V70 D5. Just the way that engine idles is perfect already butter smooth. The D5 is such a good diesel its so smooth and vibration free and ive never had any cold start issues. Zero oil burning aswell and mine has 250.000km on the clock. Nothing for a D5 of course.

I mean, other than the sound, Volvo's I6 turbo's were just as good if not better than the 5's, and even then their twincharged 4's are certainly capable engines.
Never knew of 5 Cylinders until I watched TheStraightPipes review the RS3 and how amazing it sounded. Then they mentioned old Volvo engines. The one @2:47 is amazing.
Stock 2.3 T5 and 2.4T5 can easily handle 300/320 hp wich is pretty decent. In case of a 2.4T5 (and a manual) it can handle even more on stock internals due to stronger internals from factory. These 5 pot turbos are sick as heck tho and a lot of people underestimate them wich is funny as hell 🤣

When one of these fwd volvos are moded correctly. You'll be banging the Rev limiter like a properly moded turbo civic! (although I think volvo owns are definitely more chill from my experience with meeting them :)
@@TwentyTwoThirtyThree its spooling 24/7, (it always is spooling since its working of exhaust gases) but when bypass is plugged off like this the turbo is loading way to much pressure at low rpms. Which leads to premature wear, it sounds amazing though. And also gives u a little more power

Had an 02 V70 with the B5244S for the past 7 years, her name was The Shaggin Wagon. Belt finally went and all 20 valves got fucked, Shaggin Wagon will be missed.
My Mum's boyfriend owned an original from new T5 and let me take it out I was shocked by the amount of power it had as a standard Volvo then I looked at the milage 197-000 and all that had been changed was the clutch must be one of the most reliable engines ever and from that day I've always looked at Volvo's in a different light but I don't think the more newer models are made to the same standards 👍💯🔥👌
850 is probably the cheapest 5 cylinder Volvo around the world, they come with 10 or 20 valves depending on the trim spec but in general are all the same except for displacement etc.
850 T5 has in my opinion the purest sound, 225 hp original. The engine code is B5234t, 2,3L 20 valves. The newer ons from like S60/V70 around 02-04 is more reliable, they puts out around 250 hp i think. Here in sweden you can get an engine with pretty low miles for under 1k dollars

Been trying to find this out for a while because I've heard of Swedish dragsters using the diesel block instead of sleeving the gasoline one. Its a shame there aren't any diesel Volvos in North America unless they were imported.
The day volvo plants its 2.5T in its c30 models. Likes of VW, SEAT, SKODA, OPEL, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Honda and many more other brands who fail to produce 5pot motors will come 2nd to that combo.

@@strider5119 Thats not how it works.Volvo's are FWD with a rear diff added on. If you pulled the front axles, then you only get as much as 40-ish percent of the total torque going to the rear. I was just curious if that car was a total tube chassis, rwd car with a Volvo body or did they figure out some magic with the Haldex system to make it RWD.
maybe re positon engine mounts to rotate the engine 90° make a transmission tunnel etc and use an older rwd volvo drivetrain/rear axle/ suspension set up? thats what id do
Chip tune and cut the muffler off and weld a metal pipe around how big u want it to be mabye 2-3 inches and it will sound good and you will get out about 30-40 more hp or more

Here in the US you can get an 850 Turbo/T-5, 850 T-5R, 850R, S70 GLT, S70 T-5, S60 T-5, S60R, V70 GLT, V70 T-5, V70R. All have the glorious 5 cylinder turbos that are pretty good platforms and sound great.
@@xavierpanohaya2647 it's actually not half of a V10 because even though the engine has 5 cylinders, if it were in a v shape it would have unbalanced centrifugal force. 5 cylinder engines are shaped in almost a w formation so there isn't any awkward rotational force.

The C30 did come with a T5 engine for many years, manual and auto options available. However the C30 has been out of production for about 7 years now.
