This is still very underrated song, but when you find out it is connected to their "ON" track; it makes you want to react to this more. *A little hint, the scene where they're walking down the stairs is also their ON intro opening and the song title is in reverse Lol*
This is actually a pretty brave move by the guys especially being so young. Taking a stand on how societies expectations (Korean School System & Parental Pressure) pretty much crush the young. Pressure to conform and succeed by traditional means instead of following your dream/passion. Anything less than 1st is failure. Dont let people live their dreams through you... find your own dream and fight for it 💜
I think N.O. stands for No Offense. The SKY mentioned in the lyrics stands for the 3 most prestigious universities in Korea: Seoul, Korea & Yonsei Universities. They are addressing the harsh educational system. Thanks for reacting to their early songs 💜
I know this may appear long but I believe it good info to know about the meaning, this is my view - They are much younger during that time back in Sept 2013, four months after their debut which was June 13 2013. This leading single / title track is of their first extended play album ‘O!RUL8,2?’ (Oh? Are You Late Too!) which was released as their second album after their debut album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’. N.O is short for “No Offense” in a dystopian-like setting where students’ every activity or movement was intensely watched. As you see them taking a red pill was to make sure they didn’t stray that probably subdued the students’ desires to follow their own dreams & goals keeping them focused on the teacher and studying hence the math equations on the board and their desks but it doesn’t seem to work for our boys when Jungkook is shown making fists and the rest of them start waking up from their hypnotized controlled state; furious at what was done to them they stand up attacking the riot guards where they succeed and it flashes in to the next scene and so on. The beginning of the music video I think interprets the importance of education which is engraved into the young people by the society especially by their families where the red pill is parents’ will overpowering their kids’ to their own dreams. If even one person overcomes this, the society in the form of the riot police tries to do everything to control you because the identity of a so-called successful individual is societal constructed in that country which becomes dependent on the society. For many who live overseas especially South Koreans the definition of a successful person is one who has gone top-notch university graduated with high honors, gets a society proven job (Lawyer, doctor, government, vet etc.) earning money since their families don’t see being a K-pop star as a real job until the parents start realizing that their kids are earning big amounts of money for them. In this MV BTS is shown overcoming those expectations despite being so young in age with the music they love and this is where they walk out into Nirvana? Heaven I guess in all white with all female violinists (I'm not sure why all had to be female) where they display more of their visuals & choreography that also plays part of the meaning of the track with robot-like movements and the boys are shown in one of the scenes making a robot with their own bodies that represent the extremely intense strict of education in South Korea. It is shockingly unusual for K-pop to be seen & heard talking about the life struggles through music because they weren’t allowed to openly talk about it publicly, toward the end they are seen fighting more riot guards ending it with a dance break. From what I got of the lyrics, it shows that this song is connected to their debut track “No More Dream” which they talk about the unfair social problems where the young people (youth generation) no choice but to study & get a job like their parents having no room to dream on their own which is where "N.O" is introduced to continuous issues and overcoming them. This track was made around the same time as university entrance exams where starting in Korea so RM’s line “In Seoul to the S.K.Y, will parents really be happy?” could have mean the actual SKY but mostly stood from the three top-notch universities Seoul university, Korea university and Yonsei university because of the overwhelming amount of graduates & alumni around the world not just in South Korea, it’s said you are set for life after graduating from on those mentioned schools including the overbearing amount of pressure from determined controlling parents’ besides going to high school, parents’ spend much of their time & majority of income trying to get their children into one of those hagwons or private school after completing regular classes. Another thing I’ve learned through K-pop and Korean culture is that during large amounts of youth get accepted into one of three universities mentioned above once their graduated high school each year after they passed college with high honors they would return home continue their studying because the importance of earning money & high achievement have been engraved into the society which causes youth generation (student body) who fail a test making them strongly feel like they brought extreme disappointment to themselves especially to their parents because of the overbearing pressure the children are forced to carry on their shoulders through their life which leads to why you hear the largest amount of suicides is the highest in South Korea. So, with this said BTS continues to highlight these un-talked about issues throughout their music describing their unfair culture where young generation are not given room to dream and the boys are asking us especially to their local young fans to wake up saying "N.O (No Offense)" to this kind of machine-like educational culture and discover your own path. *As you reacted to it already, years later for their latest album series ‘MAP OF THE SOUL’ they made a counterpart of "N.O" that is called “ON” which a displays much mature grown versions of themselves showing that they are overcoming the hardships and obstacles that they have gone through which they will continue as JK’s put it “On and on and on” making music they love to help give encouragement & confidence to fans worldwide to overcome their hardships and continue living life to achieve their dreams. The “ON” MV maybe confusing to most people especially newbies when they don’t read the lyrics since they don’t use the first half of the choreography within the video until the dance break toward the end.* #NO #BTS

You can call this song 'NO' if you like - but the song is 'N.O.' (both are correct) and it stands for 'NO OFFENSE'. In typical BTS fashion they were putting multiple meanings into their song titles, lyrics, and visuals right from the beginning.
Hey guys, check out BTS' Zero 0'clock: 0'clock. We have all been there. RM really expresses his soul. Also check out V and Jimin's "Friends" along with back story.
You should react to their solos, partial member colaboration songs and the Cypher series. There are true music masterpieces like The Truth Untold and House of Cards. Also Fly to my Room, Winter Bear, Lie and Epiphany are good. 💜
You guys are awesome. Thank you for the reaction. There are tons of compilation videos about the boys just being silly and funny and all sorts of stuff. They also have their own variety show called Run BTS but it my get blocked if you watch on TH-cam so you would have to check. You definitely need to react to No More Dream, Danger, and the Wembley live Outro Tear by the rap line. Thank again guys 💜💜💜
