when i first heard this song i assumed itd be about a partner, as most of her songs seem to be, but the more i listen to it the more i hear it as being about a failed parent
@@miked3373 the lyrics say that the father hasnt been home for years, meaning he left her. lanas verse is her speaking to her dad saying she doesnt owe him anything and that he hasnt done anything for her, basically saying the relationship was more one sided. when she says "i gave you all my money" shes saying that hes asked for money multiple times but its become too much for her to support her father and herself. idk what else lol

There’s so many interpretations that could be correct, that’s why her music is so artistic.
Personally I took it as being about her ex who is either an addict and kept asking her money for drugs, or a dealer himself. Could also be about drugs directly, like in her early days when she often used to refer to her addictions as a person in songs. If so it would make sense the addiction took all her money but gave her nothing but misery in the end.
I personally interpret it as a one-sided relationship song! I think she uses the word money as a metaphor for love, so “gave you all my money” = “gave you all my love”. Then the rest of her verse focuses around how she poured all of her love into this relationship while he gave nothing back in return. I think her man is a “dealer” not of drugs but of love, and she was addicted to the short highs of his affection which made her stick around and put up with him through all the lows - all in the hopes of once again feeling the love he showed her before. Just my own take
