Via will often try to make up time in the last stretch before Winnipeg, coming from either direction. They will crank it up to 130 kph even though this creates an awful lot of jostling for passengers and clearly either the train or the tracks are not engineered for a smooth ride at that speed. But the chronic terrible lateness of the Canadian makes it necessary I guess.

I would say unfortunately both the tracks and cars are neglected and factors for the unsmooth ride.
