yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Card_Rulings:Waboku Waboku DID protect the monsters from destruction according to old UDE rulings. I remember my friends and I being confused from this back in the day too.
I really like the May 2002 format. But I was wondering if you have ever tried out July 2002 Critter format? I’ve been looking at the card pool for it and it looks really interesting and fun.
Like it’s mostly a beater format still but there is also like some hand control elements to it with double cars destruction still Robbin goblin, and white magical hats (without the broken hand control from magic ruler) maybe makes your opponent want to set power spells like in may 2002 but then there is the fear of double heavy storm. Or like the interaction of change of heart can take a magician of faith and you can get a power spell back or at least the change of heart again but your opponent can be sneaky and set like a sangan or something and then you basically wasted it. Like idk it looks like a cool format. it’s super under played and under explored. But I was wondering your thoughts on it.
Actually you inadvertently described why Wall of Illusion is not a desirable card to play at 3 in a standard deck. Any monster that attacks it gets bounced to hand, so your opponent can attack Wall with Man-eater Bug to reuse it for a +1 advantage. Not a good thing in a format where card advantage is paramount. Also.... Wall has 1850 DEF whereas Giant Soldier has 2000. Some decks play Forest to enable their Battle Ox to beat over La Jinn, and it coincidentally runs over Wall too. Sure their field will be open to a direct attack, but it is harder to capitalize on when a 1900 ATK Battle Ox is imminent the following turn.
That's hilarious about the original card text of Monster Reborn and Wall of Illusion. The wording on cards printed before Problem-Solving Card Text is always good for a laugh. One of my favorites is "select and destroy" on cards like De-Spell, Two-Pronged Attack, and Trap Master.
hey i build an oldschool deck with cards from SDY to DCR with own ban list and some extra rules.... play this ,,format,, 1 hour with friend ..was much fun
All the little interactions you kept mentioning throughout the video and how important resource management is make this format sound so cool. I’m definitely gonna try to get some buddies together to try this out
I’ll make sure to let you know. Although I am wondering why trap master still dies during the section where you explained waboku. How was the card worded back in the day?
