These new supro amps sound so great. Ive been a vintage fender guy my whole life, and these amps are the first time another amp manufacturer has been putting things out that made my ears perk up as improvements on the blackface formula.
A couple weeks ago I stumbled into a guitar shop with a whole pile of Supro's. I played nearly all of them but there was something special about the Amulet. I've been thinking about it ever since. I didn't even realize it was so new AND that my favorite guitar TH-camr had done a review until now. Thank you for this!
Thanks for doing this Eric, this amp definitely does everything, from the vintage wes montgomery jazz tones to early white stripes/von bondies/detroit garage rock revival and the clear chimey surf rock thing in a compact package. Incredible
Thanks for the honest eval Eric! Sounds excellent with your setup, and I would definitely consider a supro in the future. Not gonna replace my THR for bedroom volumes though 🔊
Thanks, Eric. I liked watching you have fun with your new amp. A good idea for a future video would be you and your pedal board and different ways to get tone out of the same pedals.
Got my Supro Amulet 1/5/15w 1x12 Celestion Creamback this week. Playing A/B/Y with my Laney L5T-112. Very happy with the Supro and the two amps compliment and contrast each other well.
I had a 100w Marshall JVM (that weighed about 30 kgs). I sold it for cash, brought a Supro Delta King 12 and never looked back. These amps sound GREAT. The tubes sound like they're on fire even at low volumes. I've done a bit of gigging with it, and they sound even better when cranked. Devastatingly good amps for a crazy good price. These Amulets look even better... might have to swap mine in and get this now!
i had e mailed Supro there Tech told ,me that this amp is Totally Different circuitry then the delta king , i had the delta king sold it , but i liked it i did not like the boost and gain on it but for pedals it was great or clean
I was about to pull the trigger on one of these without being able to try it first. I'm glad to know it can't be cranked on the 1 watt setting at home.
What a terrific sound! Nice playing, love the Tele w. Trem, too. I have noticed a few Supro reviews lately, specifically the Amulet and the funky looking small one. I'm happy with my old Blues Jnr. but been thinking about something new for the studio and this one goes to the front of the line . . . have been looking at Victory & Magnatone but, honestly, not sure if the price warrants a purchase. Thanks for a fun review!
It’s almost like the plugin has has a preamp that glues everything together. Great info, Eric. I’m a GarageBand user as well. I’m definitely getting the Vintage Verb. Many thanks man.
Perfect timing! I'm shopping around for a Supro and/or Fender Champ. I have a Joyo "Sweet Baby" Champ clone which is totally decent, but memories of my long-sold Champ600 haunt my dreams. 1W is pretty loud! My Laney Cub12r has 15W and 1W inputs and the latter is enough for my neighbours to enjoy my Fuzz Freakout Fridays :) It won't rip on its own at reasonable bedroom volumes, hence the Fuzzies. I love my Fuzzes. How good are Brian Jonestown Massacre!! Anton Newcombe has still got it, he contributed a *killer* (hehe) track to the film "The Black Phone" with L'il Barrie on guitar. It's on TH-cam - "Backstage At The Budokan" is the song.
Nice. My version of "Jockey Full of Bourbon" is inspired by John Hammond. Fingerstyle, "tango" motif for the verses and loose chorus with tiny bits of reggae rhythm sprinkled in.
(edit: sold after about a month - could not get over how bad the mids sounded and how it seemed to sound different every time I turned it on or how I had to adjust all the EQs when I'd change wattage). I just got one of these. 1 week in and it's interesting. I only ever have one amp. I think I like it. I had a Vox AC10 before - was just a noisy nightmare. Terrible reverb. Fender DRRI before that. Hated the mid scoop, and 22 watts was just too loud. This Amulet is very.. early Led Zep/Clapton. Each wattage gives the EQ it's own flavor, which is really interesting. It's almost like 3 amps in 1. The reverb/trem effects are great. All the knobs are really great, like 0-10 is no joke it makes a difference. Still trying to figure out what I like. I use a MXR timmy drive, and with the 5w, and some dip in the bass and high treble I am liking the sounds coming out. It is a bit.. "dark" I guess - mid centered, more so maybe than I'd love.. a mid dial would have been cool - but I'm still playing with knobs on the amp and the pedals and starting to get some real nice sounds. I've not had one I've had to experiment so much with, which I think is a good thing because there's so many sounds you can peruse out of it. I've also not played an amp with such a great response to actual playing.. the volume turns up your gain so much nicer than other amps I've used, and it reacts so effortlessly to how you play and pick. All good things. It's not Fender bright, it's more mids than a Vox, IDK. I like it so far. It's got it's own voice. I can get any other boring old amp sound out of Garage Band or what have you, but for a one amp guy I like having this unique voice with so many offerings.
@@dustinglass I actually sold it after less than a month I think and got a Princeton Reverb RI which is just loads better. Every time I turned it on, or especially if I changed the wattage, it'd sound different. I'd avoid.
Great demo! I've been searching for a small tube amp for ages and they're just not easy to find. The best amp in my opinion was the Benson Monarch Reverb, but that one is expensive, probably way too loud and they even put a hold on the waiting list, so they're pretty unobtainable. The next amp I was interested in was the Princeton '65, but I don't like its edge of break up sound (although I'd probably use it clean anyway). But this Supro seems to tick all the boxes and I really like the sound. I'll have to try one myself before I make the wrong decision again. I sold a good amp and bought three amps that I basically can't use (for different reasons). But I'm interested. Very interested indeed. Thanks! I like your style by the way. 😎👍
Im the same, looking for low watt tube amps. I was lucky and got a marshall JCM1 mini stack, and then bought a Benson Vinny Reverb(amazing amp). Ive got my Dad's original 65 Princeton Reverb, but find the same problem. I want a combo amp that can get a good amount of dirt at low volume. The 2 best I've played so far are the Supro DK10 and the Vox AC4 HW. Ill have to give this one a try too!

I bought a Delta King 12 which has pretty good pre amp gain + boost, but i just built a reactive power soaking attenuator that goes between.the speaker and chassis, so now i can dime the amp comfortably- sounds pretty similar and was quite a bit cheaper. Anyone interested in this, look into that setup. Pretty cost affordable
Great sounding amp, but if you have to use an attenuator anyway to get good sounds at a reasonable SPL even on the 1W setting, it seems to sort of defeat the purpose of spending the extra $400 or so for this amp with built-in power attenuation compared to getting say a Supro Delta King 12. I'm just wondering what else you're really getting for the extra money besides the built-in attenuation.

I think built in attenuators are pointless tbh. They reduce headroom more than volume as decreasing wattage will only do so much. You could gig with 5 watts provided your speaker is efficient but you will not have any clean headroom. And 110 db at 1 watt is pretty crazy. It would be more ideal to have a master volume rather than an attenuator because you can actually choose the volume level while dialling in pre amp distortion which is the ideal part of the circuit to push. This is good for fuzz users
Any idea why Supro designs their controls to be read from the back of the amp instead of the front? It seems like this is backwards. Can the controls be turned around?
amp reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt. there is sooo much happening between the speaker on the amp being reviewed, and the ear of the viewer. alot of folks want a quiet amp they can play at home without disturbing others, yet still sound good. that's nearly impossible. to get that sweet sound, the speaker has to be pushing air, especially if you're playing rock or metal. you can get pretty good sounds with an isolation cab, but the real truth is, there is no substitute for loudness. attenuators, iso cabs, cab sims are all a compromise. you can tone chase until you have no money left to spend, but in the end, you're going to have to settle for "close enough"...whatever close enough is for you. that's not to say this isn't a good amp, or that the review isn't attempting to be as honest as possible. just know that the results you get trying to play quiet at home will be a compromise.

I want to bite the bullet on this amp but does it do twangy surf stuff? I tried the delta King before but it was to bass heavy and not sparkly enough. Basically would this be a cheaper equivalent to a princeton?
Eric I just ordered this Amulet and also the Weber MiniMass - it looks like i need to know if the Amulet speaker is hardwired or not and I cant find anything in the specs about that. Can you tell me what is needed to connect that attenuator used in this video? Thanks!
The 2 Amulets I had were full of crackles and electronic artifacts. Whatever the problem was, obviously they aren't reliable at all, and am not the only one that has encountered major flaws with these new Chineese built Supros. I'd stay away from Supros built after they moved to China. Hit or miss for sure. And in my opinion probably a full miss when the amp gets older.
Depends on your pickups - this thing easily puts out 120db so it would be fine. However, if you have high output humbuckers it may be a very furry 120db!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Dang, my wallet was hoping you wouldn’t say that. The champ/Princeton trashy thing certainly has its place in mixes and rock history, it’s not my favorite for bedroom use.
@@EricHaugenGuitar oh man ok. I don’t have a real tube amp. Are there other tube amps with awesome clean tones you would recommend around this price range?
Have you experimented with 32 bit float recording? I wonder if you could avoid having to change your micropohone input gain and just change it in post - that's the promise anyway of something like a zoom F3 or sound devices mixpre.

@@EricHaugenGuitar Ah OK! My mistake. I have noticed that on other YT videos quite a lot, but this time clearly I was mistaken. Just the 1W tone I guess. PS Diidn’t mean this to come across as snarky. Love what you do here and on TrueFire
Great Eric.... i been undecided between this and the Mesa/Boogie California Tweed 2:20 1 x 12-inch Tube Combo, any thoughts ?
I want to bite the bullet on this amp but does it do twangy surf stuff? I tried the delta King before but it was to bass heavy and not sparkly enough. Basically would this be a cheaper equivalent to a princeton?
Oh yeah the amulet is quite sparkly!
It's pretty similar to the princeton buuuuuut the Fender has the longer reverb tank!
At what volume level on this amp do find the best of the edge of breakup?... as people like to set their amps now. Just got mine!
Eric I just ordered this Amulet and also the Weber MiniMass - it looks like i need to know if the Amulet speaker is hardwired or not and I cant find anything in the specs about that. Can you tell me what is needed to connect that attenuator used in this video? Thanks!
Cool! You'll need a 1/4" to 1/4" adapter and you'll be all set!

4:31 Hahaha ... this is my house ...
Sorry if it's already been asked but how would this, in the 5 watt setting, compare to the Fender Vibro Champ which is also 5 watts?
I prefer this one - it runs quiter. The vibrochamp is great but like many 5watt amps it has transformer hum (a little bit)
@@EricHaugenGuitar thank you so much! Love your videos. Keep them coming!
HI Eric, Ddid you prefer the amulet or the '64 Super?
Curious about this as well. Amulet or '64 Reverb?
Mark Speer! 100!
Supro's are so cool 😎
Have you experienced the overdrive causing a crackle in the reverb tail?
The 2 Amulets I had were full of crackles and electronic artifacts. Whatever the problem was, obviously they aren't reliable at all, and am not the only one that has encountered major flaws with these new Chineese built Supros. I'd stay away from Supros built after they moved to China. Hit or miss for sure.
And in my opinion probably a full miss when the amp gets older.
sounds cool - Hmmm, Supro Amulet.... Vox AC-15....Fender Princeton Reverb..... decisions
Oooof tough call!
I'd put the Amulet and Princeton a little bit above the Vox, but that's just me and my ears!
Do you like it more than your vox ac4?
Different for sure! This is much more useable for my clean-ish playing.
The AC4 is so quintessentially voxy - which is what's cool about it!
I wonder if Huey Lewis ever found that new drug?
“Open up ‘cos here I come”
Is this the 10 or 12 inch version?
Have you played the Tone King Gremlin? If so, which do you prefer?
no verb i believe I played it its a different animal! a real rocker
Not yet! But those amps have an excellent reputation!
@@EricHaugenGuitar i cranked one amp at gc here in nyc...it roared but i love thefender sound so didnt buy it
Nice
Is this amp able to play at small to medium venues ? I was thinking of maybe purchasing it but I feel like it might not be loud enough
Depends on your pickups - this thing easily puts out 120db so it would be fine. However, if you have high output humbuckers it may be a very furry 120db!
@@EricHaugenGuitar thanks for the reply! I love watching your vids so thank you for the content! :)
How would you compare the breakup on this to a black or silver face champ?
BIGGER.
Supro's cabs are meatier than champs, so they feel less trashy (which I like too), more grindy.
@@EricHaugenGuitar Dang, my wallet was hoping you wouldn’t say that. The champ/Princeton trashy thing certainly has its place in mixes and rock history, it’s not my favorite for bedroom use.
This or a Princeton in your opinion?
This by a nose - the built in attenuator and the cab resonance are what nudge it ahead ever so slightly!
Cool!!! ✌️😌🎸
Trying to decide between this or the super reverb tone master...help?! lol
If you don't already have a tube amp, that's always priority #1!
@@EricHaugenGuitar oh man ok. I don’t have a real tube amp. Are there other tube amps with awesome clean tones you would recommend around this price range?
@@MannyAch check out the Vox AC 10.
@@hog7203 Sweet! Will do....thanks!
But how do you not play a Led Zeppelin riff with a tele and a supro?
I’m a blasphemer!
Have you experimented with 32 bit float recording? I wonder if you could avoid having to change your micropohone input gain and just change it in post - that's the promise anyway of something like a zoom F3 or sound devices mixpre.
Not yet!
I barely understand how to do what I do right now! A quick google search assured me I'm too stupid to figure that out!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Haha! It's really just pointy XLR end into the less pointy end, hit record! Then in post you can set your levels, no more clipping! (apparently)
this or vibrochamp?
This! It runs quieter than the vibro champ (which has more noticeable transformer hum)
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thanks, I'm in the market for another good amp. Currently play an AC10
What kind of hat is that?
Vans
So stuffed, I can't even eat pizza.
Man that amp sounds great👍🏻👍🏻 eat pizza indeed!
How good can words be English?
Hint of the youngbloods in there , I know I’m showing my age , ✌🏻🎸🎶🍕
My quietest amps are all single ended.
Its 15 watts...not 5!
Sounds like Kruangbin
Hog Dog ripping Huey?! Oh hell yeah!
can't go wrong with some bjm
