    If that fume hood could talk… that's where most of the magic happens.

    I used to work for a pharmeceutical company. We had to use fume hoods when we put things into little bottles. One of the things that was sold there was concentrated capsaicin, (the "hot" in peppers.)
    We were even given a mask to wear, and it was mandatory when handling certain substances. You'd be surprised how much a little capsaicin would affect you if you inhaled it. Luckily, we didnt have any incidents.

      I could just imagine what a little pharmaceutical grade capsaicin could do to a fella. I assume that's the active ingredient along with a bunch of fillers and stuff they use for industrial grade pepper spray the police use.

      @@Joe.Rogan. I worked for company that designed, built, tested, and installed commercial fume hoods.
      All mirror finish high grade stainless steel, independent fire suppressor systems. Worst and most frustrating installation I did was a hood that was 14' 11 1/2" long, that went into a room that was 15' wide. It took 4 of us just to get it into place, then came the welding of the stainless stacks going through the ceiling and metal roof. That was one of 9 we put into that road material testing lab.

  • @donniebrown2896
    @donniebrown2896 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, had a feeling it was PVC. The questions about the rain coming down the inside and the "expert" knowledge of roofs and the proper way to deal with the penetration just floors me.
    I don't know if it's still available but at one time sheets of 1/2" PVC was available. With your attention to detail, you might be able to build your own hood. We used to install what was called "blow pipe" the exhaust fan was completely out of the air stream and not affected by fumes or debris. The fan would push air into the pipe and actually create a vacuum where the work area was. It worked very well in steel foundries in pulling fumes and dust out.
    Thanks

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m very familiar with the concept. In the Navy we use steam powered “air ejectors” that were so powerful that we could pull 29 inches of vacuum on our main condenser, it was as big as your living room. Same thing with bilge pumps. Sea water from the fire pumps shot fire main pressure through a nozzle into an “educator” and the vacuum created would drain the bilges in minutes. No moving parts!

      If you do they make a rubber pipe flashing, it goes over your pipe to form a seal instead of what mr. Sreetips did. When installed the flashing will go underneath the top shingle course but on top of the lower course so the water runs off and won't hit a bump. You can also pack the hole with roof tar like mr. Sreetips did as an added precaution but the flashing I described is the right product to use. Make sure to fill any nail holes in the shingles with some roof tar.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shane, I installed that roof myself in 2008. I have experience with roofing. The seal that I created has not leaked since I installed it back in 2012. This seal is better than a boot. Boots will deteriorate and crumble over time. But that plastic roof cement is much more durable. A boot would start leaking well before the seal that I made will.

    How you manage the RAIN to not come into your "referring LAB"?
    Is that vertical pipe on the roof open on top?
    BTW how do you manage the fumes outside the home, isn't those fumes partially come down to the roof and corrode the roof tiles?
    Sorry for asking, but I need to know how to set up my refinery lab ;)
    I'm more on IT refinery stuff, I like that kind of stuff more for the philosophy of getting BACK stuff from waste than to get rich, I don't care much, but I like to see chemistry give back resources back from the trash ;).
    I'm going to look at all your videos to make myself a culture about refining and recycling precious metals.
    The silver cell is VERY NICE stuff, I'll do that just to see the random structures that are building inside the bowl.
    Thank you in advance.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heavy rain causes drips in my fume hood. The exhaust pressure/flow is usually enough to keep light rain out. The roof tiles aren’t corroded. The exhaust stack is about four feet above the roof surface.

      @@sreetips Thank you for your fast reply ;)
      I'm pretty sure that I'll be going to make myself a setup like yours but smaller to refine/recycle small quantities of stuff more for hobby and fun than for profit.
      I need to buy the products but here where I live not all the products like NITRIC or SULFURIC acid can be bought only if you have a chemist diploma with a license or have a company :(
      It would be NICE if you would make a series of videos HOW TO MAKE BASIC ACIDS FOR REFINERY ;)
      That would be a nice move to make people autonomous in places where they can't reach the pro acids from the store like in the USA.
      BTW yesterday I almost all day and night looked at your content that is SPECTACULAR in terms of education and PRECISE HOW TO make it works ;)
      Thank you a lot for your videos, those who don't like your style don't merit your time and your effort.
      Do never change your style, your format is ORIGINAL, GOOD, HEAVY IN INFORMATION, GOOD practices, economy, efficiency, etc. DO NOT CHANGE NOTHING you are not talking shit and play games as MANY OTHER that set some PSEUDO standards for doing videos or content.

      It’s a fume hood stack. It needs to eject up without impediment to properly dilute the fumes to avoid hurting those on the ground. It has a drain designed to handle any rain water that enters the stack. I’m more concerned with proper flashing at the base of the stack and the roof shingles to avoid a roof leak.

      It’s never leaked. I add more roof cement if I see cracks

      It’s working great. No leaks in 8 years. I installed the roof myself. I have experience with roofing

      A roof jack is a steel frame that is nailed into the plywood so that a ladder or piece of wood can be positioned to keep the roofer from sliding off a roof with a steep angle while working on the roof.

      @@sreetips i am looking into getting one. Is there a certain filtration system needed,or does it just blow the fumes out. Feel like i could improvise one with a venturi valve and a blower motor if just straight exhaust. Was looking online and couldn't find one that looks like yours. All either way bigger or smaller, thx. U da man!
