Car culture is synonymous with the United States of America - largely due to the Interstate Highway System, originally devised to improve national defense and connect the country via automobile travel. But in practice the Interstate Highway System divided and destroyed communities, and causes a plethora of environmental and health issues to this day. Now, urban planners and activists are trying to rectify these problems with highway deck or cap parks, like Klyde Warren Park, and highway tunneling, like the Big Dig. But can these new infrastructure projects right the wrongs of the past?
