This tutorial is nothing short of amazing, thank you, Phil. I am coming to the Prime Go from the legendary Denon DN hd2500 which I have used for over a decade and still love but the Prime Go is me dipping my toe in the water with the newer generation of gear. Your work is so incredibly helpful in getting me started with the Prime, thank you 👍👍
Brilliant I’m a fan . Not played for 20 years . But re energised at the age of 64 . Thankyou Phil for your knowledge and inspiration . I bought the book on Amazon. Will follow your vids . Love it
Excellent tutorial. I started DJing in 1984 on Technics SLB-10 turntables and a Radio Shack Vintage 5 Channel Audio Mixer 32-1101A. I have been through the whole evolution of DJing and ended up here now with an Prime GO. I have watched several tutorials on this device, mostly as a form to find out the features without having to read the manual(whose got time for that??). And after watching Phil's tutorial, I think everyone should only watch his.
This is the best tutorial. Period. Watching it a second time. It would be awesome if you could do a follow up with the new features implemented in all the updates. Bluetooth, sampler, profile and covers the major changes. These updates are a blessing really. This gem is getting better every time.
Thanks for showing the filter resonance setting, when you first showed the filter I was disappointed it didn't sound very musical. Now I know you can change that. Glad I watched all the way through
Thank you for this. I have had my unit for 2 days and love it. All in one. Hey guys if you want a truly portable set up , I’m using a hyperboom from ultimate ears (24 HR battery) . The ultimate ears system also lets you connect up to 10 more speakers , the quality is A1. The hyper boom has an aux input so hard wire from your prime go then thru UE app pair other speakers. I currently use 1 hyperboom & 3 mega booms. Hope that helps anyone looking for a complete portable set
Great to hear you're enjoying it! I suspect there is some latency on that speaker though, even when wired. There certainly will be when you add extra speakers.
How are you getting around Aux delay due to the processing on the Hyperboom? I have one but the delay is kind of a bummer. Looked at the JBL party boxes which also have delay with Aux. Thinking I might try the Soundboks which apparently have no delay through XLR or Aux.
Great valuable resource which I’ve saved for reference. I was lucky enough to get a prime go at Christmas so really appreciate you taking the time to produce this!
Many thanks Phil. I use the Go for smaller home gigs, especially in times of Covid. It is a very powerful device. I also connected my Maschine+ groove box to it, so I can do more performance during my gigs.
Great tutorial that i did watch over breakfast 😂🎉😂 I particularly liked the instant double tip and how to place in prep folder using sync and browser knob. Oh i also didnt know how to turn talk over on the mic, so that was cool.
Amazing Tutorial!! Just ordered the Prime GO. The only wish so far would be built-in speakers (MPC Live II) and Increase battery size/Jog wheels. Still impressed by the v1 design/functionality in such a small package. It also seems extremely intuitive. Well done Denon!!
Always so thorough Phil, finally got me one of these after seeing you stream live for so long and enjoying it! Wow, powerful little guy...thanks for this tutorial.
excellent tutorial well done phil & team! this controller is perfect for my pub gigs! I didn't use any of my own tracks just streamed off beatsource and tidal. Awesome piece of gear
@@digitaldjtips cheers! The sync is terrible but that's fine as I don't really use sync anyway. I love it for what it is, even though it has its limitations. It is not an ideal club controller so I will be purchasing a ddj1000 for that ha!

Just joined the bandwagon! This plus a USB hub and SKAA transmitter into 1-2 Soundboks 3 speakers and you are 100% wireless and battery powered for wedding ceremonies, boat parties, and beach/jungle raves! Get a DC 19v power bank and you can double or triple the playtime of the GO. The only thing I don't like is no mic EQ (could be fixed with firmware, give me an option to edit hi/mid/low on screen). Luckily the Soundboks has a digital 6 band EQ. Also, why no channel levels? There is space for them . Maybe they can have a firmware update where L is 1 and R is 2. A workaround is Platinum Notes, but some tracks just aren't as loud.
No convenient way, and you shouldn't do it as the latency (delay) will be too great for DJing. You need a wired speaker that has zero latency when wired.
Excited to check this video out. Mine had to be sent back because the right deck was dysfunctional intermittently. Have you heard about this issue or encountered it yourself?
@@digitaldjtips I sincerely hope it is & then the next unit I get does not have this issue. I am about to travel with this unit & plan to DJ outdoor sets from across India. As you can see from Ric's comment below, it seems to be a problem that's occurring to several of us.

Thanks for this video. Got my Prime Go on Friday an the video was helpful at a few points, that I didn‘t get by myself. I have just one question… Did I get it right, that all the effects are „post-fader“? Because I didn‘t manage to hear them by cue…. If yes, do you think Denon could do an firmware Update to make a choice for that possible, or is it a hardware thing..?
I love my Prime Go, but I really hope they add a possibility of choosing pre/post fader FX to Cue headphones in the future. I would like to hear how my track sounds with effect, before mixing in said track.
After learning how much joy can be had with a portable DJ Rig with the Pioneer FLX4, I now think i want a compact all-in-one and was so close to buying the Numark Mixtream Go. But im now starting to think the Prime is just a little more friendly to Pros with the better FX system and logical layout. Is the pitch fader on the Denon Pro bigger than the one on the mixstream? I think i would prefer a bigger pitch fader than bigger jog wheels.
Great tutorial, thanks for taking the time to make it. I didn't see if it's possible to make the pitch control a true 'pitch' rather than a master tempo control? I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these controllers but I'd be coming from vinyl so prefer the 'pitch' adjustment rather than the tempo adjustment you get on cdjs
Brilliant step by step video of the system. I’m experiencing a problem only one side of my headphones are giving out sound do you know how this is ? And it’s very low
Really helpful video! Such a cool bit of kit. Is there any way to EQ the FX section like you can with Pioneer? For instance if you were using echo and didn't want tons of low end delays bouncing into the mix. If not then Im sure they could add it to the preferences menu in a future update, so you could choose your own low cut frequency for the FX
Today engine dj update the firmware of the prime go to version 2.3. This includes vdj support. However the computer mode recognized the prime go also by Algoriddim's DJAY AI. I was able to start mapping the prime go as a controller for DJAY. I couldn't find any reference to this mode. Anyone has had the same experience?
This is great. Thanks so much for putting it together. I did not see it covered but what about a channel VU meter option. You just showed it working on the master but surely there is an option to see it work with the individual channels so you can use the gain knob to match volume levels?
@@digitaldjtips Wow this seems like a really big oversight from Denon. It also seems like it would be relatively easier to implement. At least have this or an auto-gain function. Especially important when playing from different sources.
Thank you for the amazing tutorial! I'm a total newbie trying to start out and I like the idea of the portability so I've been considering this heavily. Which cables would I use to connect it to an iloud portable speaker?
Glad to help :) The answer to that is pretty much always "whatever output your device has to whatever input the thing you're trying to plug it into has", so the Prime Go has XLR and RCA outputs, I'm not sure which particular model speaker you're referring to but it's likely to either be a 3.5mm or RCA connection
@@digitaldjtips thank you Phil. Actually my turntable has a built-in pre-amp (Audio Technica AT-LP1240). Even if I can't monitor it digitally, can't I use the 3-band EQ for it, assigning it to Deck 1 or 2?
Can you manually move the start and end points of an unquantized manual loop on the fly . I'm interested in creating off grid loops but can't find how to change the start point while it's playing . Any nudge ?
I love my problem go except for the crossfader has a major bleed so I've had to turn off my crossfader and just use my upfitters to mix with a slight annoyance you to figure out after spending $1,000 bucks you shouldn't have to put any more money into the hardware so I'll just leave it be but it's good for on the go mixing
I noticed a little detail that you didn’t comment on… is the pitch control upside down? Down is faster and up is slower…? That would be a bit weird coming from an old school SL1200, can that be reversed in the settings?
hi. prime go is on top of my buying list. but i have some questions: - does it reads files prepared for my old stanton scs4dj? - if i buy a used one do i loose some license on software linked to the machine and to the previous owner ?
Just got mine. Shame the integration with Beatport DJ doesn't seem to work 'out of the box'. And why do I not see the prepare crate on my left panel? Well, it's going to be a journey :)
@@digitaldjtips Yeah well it doesn't. I'm now sourcing Virtual DJ from Beatport DJ and playing tracks through my Prime Go. These DJ software apps are quite buggy from what I can tell. Cheers.
Hi Phil, I've purchased a Denon Prime Go and have just started watching your video. I purchased this device for the 'On the Go, can be played anywhere aspect, but also that it did not need a laptop'. However, I see near the start of your video you highlight a laptop / computer for 'firmware and software'. Is a laptop absolutely necessary at any stage? I am new to DJing and do not not have any form of tech background, and see it as the less tech devices the better... Can we do everything we need to do from start to finish without a computer / laptop?? Be ideal if we can! Look forward to hearing your Wisdom. Gary
@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the Swift response! Have you got a video tutorial for the whole set up, like above, without using a laptop? If yes, please share the link… Bless, Gary
Is there any way of keeping Effects always on? Everytime I switch from one to another they always turn off. It would be so easy to implement that setting right?
How can i set the hot cues up or cue point up so that it doesn't automatically play the song straight away? It just jumps to the cue and stops and doesn't automatically play?
is Engine DJ software compatible with exporting for club gear? I prepared all of my music in Rekordbox setting detailed memory cues for hours and none of them transferred/none are visible when the USB flash drive is plugged into Denon Prime Go. Is there a way to transfer the memory cues directly from Rekordbox? I tried transferring from Rekordbox to Engine DJ then again to USB drive but didn't work :(
Do a web search for "DJ Conversion Utility" - that company has apps to help with this (they're Mac only). I believe it is also possible to get Rekordbox libraries into Denon gear via the Engine DJ desktop app, though not tried it myself.
Hi Phillip, since I made the to denon prime go and the engine dj software, but still keeping serato dj and the laptop. Im trying to figure out a way to playback samples that used to playback in serato dj pro sampler. I used trigger party sound effects such as a siren, horns, crowd applause, a sub drop etc,.... The prime go has an aux line and maybe I can buy a sampler small enough to do the job. is there a small sampler I can purchase that is not too expensive that I can hook up to the prime go and playback these samples?
Hi. Forgive my ignorance. What is the best way to ‘broadcast’ from the device when mixing music from a USB or SD? Can i do it from the Prime GO directly using Wifi? Or do i need to connect to a PC and use a service like ‘BUTT’? If the later what is the best way to connect the audio to the PC? Thank you.
@@digitaldjtips ok thank you, but perhaps I'll explain what i'm doing with the prime go. I take the prime go to the venue where I dj at 4 days a week. I connect the prime go master out to an available open line in on the venues house mixer a pioneer ddj-srt1000 controller. I play a track on the prime go and the bass sounds too high. The bass knob is set at 12 o'clock on the prime go. so I turned down the bass on the prime go so it could sound right and comfortable but its set all the way down to 7 o'clock. something is not right. something went wrong with the sound system over the weekend and the sound guy came in yesterday and supposedly had fixed the sound system. but i'm having this bass problem going on. the mids and highs are fine. I did a little tweaking on the knobs for the mids and highs on the prime go as I was mixing in and out of tracks but didn't have to tweak it all the way down to 7 o'clock like on the bass knob. I called the sound guy but left a message. i'll call him again if he doesn't return my call by the afternoon. question connecting the prime go as I did on the pioneer ddj srt1000, shoud the band eq on the pioneer be set to 12 o'clock or down to 6 o'clock? either the sound guy put too much bass on the system or something wrong with my prime go.
@@digitaldjtips thank you for your prompt reply. What about to play the next song on the playlist automatically without having to mix it manually? Thanks
My Man Phil....I am so lucky I found your videos. You are the very best instructor I have come across in the EDM genre. I used to only watch bass & guitar videos. I am an older cat 58 years young and been playing guitar 45 plus years. I have been going to raves since the 80s and recently I have become obsessed with EDM specifically psytrance. I decided I want to become a pro DJ. I have an Ableton studio and play midi guitar so I have basic understanding of electronic music. My question to you and I am 100% purchasing your course is would you recommend Pioneer CDJ 3000 or Denon 6000? Reason I ask is I always try to find a mentor in life and all the pro djs and music schools here in Austin TX all use pioneer gear. . I am a guy who needs live instruction so knowing that everyone uses pioneer, would you recommend to an absolute beginner DJ go with pioneer or jump into Denon? I learned ableton by taking skype lessons and going through lots of online courses. Or would you recommend me picking up a used pioneer deck that you use in your course and following along with you on that and than moving to a full rig? I know this is something I am doing for life so want to make the investment in the best gear that makes sense. I may also want to integrate Ableton and a few midi controllers with the DJ rig. What do you recommend? Do you happen to do private skype lessons?
I recommend you read my book “Rock The Dancefloor!” first (free PDF when you join our community at djtips.co/join). We do not do private coaching, unfortunately. I always recommend DJs to buy a basic controller first. You can only be sure what is right for you 6 months into your journey, and your basic controller can always be your backup system anyway.
Is there any way of deleting a track while only in the machine itself? I’d like to clean up my tunes without using the computer. Basically delete from the usb internally in go
The music on your USB is simply a mirror of what's on your computer (or your chosen part of it). The master library remains on your computer. Removing it from the USB without removing it from the computer therefore doesn't really make sense.
Hi, I have q question regarding using the sync manager in the engine dj software on the laptop. After using the sync manager to export the files onto a usb to plug into the prime go and play, do I have to have to sync those back into the engine dj software even if I havent made any changes?
@@digitaldjtips what if i want to add new songs, and new playlists into the existing usb drive? you also demonstrated the hot cues on the prime go and while you stopped the track you clicked on the saved hot cues and it would just go there but on mine for some reason after setting my cue points and while the track is stopped and I click one of the saved cue buttons it then starts playing right away rather than just stay there until i press play, I wonder why. Also, why does it automatically shut down after pressing the power button? the usb I am using on the prime go is a bit small. just using it for testing. I want to sync all my collection into an external drive why everything, it is because I dj at a strip club and there I play a little of everything so its good to have with me at all times but there is also times when I dj at other venues where i play just house music I can then prepare a playlist of house music from the engine dj software and play later. what is the largest external drive space prime go can handle? also do I need to transfer the engine library folder to the new drive that I will use on the prime go, so I dont lose anything I created on the usb drive with engine dj software?
i have one and im dissapointed from time to time. today i figured out that i cannot change order of prepare crate.. it gets buggy always when turned on for llong time, today buttons stopped reacting.. it should cost as same as the numark clone
I just got one of these. Is there a way to display "classical" key signatures for tracks, as opposed to "Camelot" key signature (which seems to be the default)? I checked the documentation, and Googled, but I didn't find anything. Thanks!

Yes, you can turn keylock on and off - it is an option on the touchscreen (little musical note)
@@digitaldjtips thanks for the reply, appreciate it
Brilliant step by step video of the system. I’m experiencing a problem only one side of my headphones are giving out sound do you know how this is ? And it’s very low
Very strange, your headphones are working if you plug them into something else?
@@digitaldjtips yes they are ?
Clearly an issue with the Prime Go then. I'd have it looked at.
This tut is perfect. Thx so much...
Glad it’s useful to you Ric!
Amazing tutorial..Thank you so much....
You're very welcome!
Love this tutorial very Informative
Thanks Geoffrey!
Not at the moment
Is there a way to skip through tracks with one button or using shift? I like to skim through and search that way sometimes. ❤ thanks.
Brilliant, thanks Phil. One question though, what do the note icons on the performance screen denote please ?
Whether keylock is on or off
Today engine dj update the firmware of the prime go to version 2.3.
No sadly there isn’t.
@@digitaldjtips Wow this seems like a really big oversight from Denon. It also seems like it would be relatively easier to implement. At least have this or an auto-gain function. Especially important when playing from different sources.
@@digitaldjtips has this oversight been fixed with Engine’s updates?
Wonderful video
Thanks!
Idk if I missed it or not but… how do you reverse the playback? Going to watch it again now lol
Not sure you can
Thank you for the amazing tutorial!

Hi Phil, can I connect a turntable to this for mixing from the vinyl? Is it possible on aux input?
You'd need a phono pre-amp, and as you have no EQ or monitoring, it would not be a good solution. Much better getting a Prime 4.
Any nudge ?
Not sure you can on this unit, might be wrong - not checked for a while!
Sorry to hear that
@@digitaldjtips right it's ok tho still a great unit
I noticed a little detail that you didn’t comment on… is the pitch control upside down? Down is faster and up is slower…? That would be a bit weird coming from an old school SL1200, can that be reversed in the settings?
No, it is the same as your turntables.
Hey :) thanks first of all for the video. A quick question : do you mean CUE importing from engine to serato is possible ? 😅 greetings
hi.
prime go is on top of my buying list.
but i have some questions:
- does it reads files prepared for my old stanton scs4dj?
- if i buy a used one do i loose some license on software linked to the machine and to the previous owner ?
It works with most music files, so you won't have a problem there. The software is free, so again, no problem if you buy a used one.
Just got mine. Shame the integration with Beatport DJ doesn't seem to work 'out of the box'. And why do I not see the prepare crate on my left panel? Well, it's going to be a journey :)
It should do
@@digitaldjtips Yeah well it doesn't.
Gary
You can just about, but it is much better to have a laptop for preparation of music.
@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the Swift response! Have you got a video tutorial for the whole set up, like above, without using a laptop? If yes, please share the link…
Bless,
Gary
Is there any way of keeping Effects always on? Everytime I switch from one to another they always turn off. It would be so easy to implement that setting right?
Can you record from the input/aux source at the rear of the unit onto the denons sd card? Thanks for the video👍
While I've never tried it, I am going to guess no, as it isn't routed through the mixer.
How can i set the hot cues up or cue point up so that it doesn't automatically play the song straight away? It just jumps to the cue and stops and doesn't automatically play?
hot cues are not visible on the main overall track? On the zoom track barely visible.
is Engine DJ software compatible with exporting for club gear?
For engine dj the feature where you use your finger across the screen to make different sound effects, is it available on the prime go?
Yes
Great video. Like it. Thanks
You’re welcome
Hello I’m at 48min of the tutorial. Have to ask: how u change sweep FX?
Hi Phillip, since I made the to denon prime go and the engine dj software, but still keeping serato dj and the laptop. Im trying to figure out a way to playback samples that used to playback in serato dj pro sampler. I used trigger party sound effects such as a siren, horns, crowd applause, a sub drop etc,.... The prime go has an aux line and maybe I can buy a sampler small enough to do the job. is there a small sampler I can purchase that is not too expensive that I can hook up to the prime go and playback these samples?
Maybe just use a sampler app on your phone
@@digitaldjtips what is the sampler app called?
Thank you.
Hey Howard, you can read all about the best practices for livestreaming here: www.digitaldjtips.com/2020/07/guide-to-dj-livestreaming/
Brilliant! Thanks
No problem!
Hello - does the denon dj have recording internally? Big gig tonight for the group. Great video
You can record to a USB or SD card.
I wanted to see it being opened
Will we get an in depth tutorial for the SC6000 x 1850? I love these episodes for the PRIME. But we are missing that one.
Perhaps, thanks for the suggestion :)
Hi Phil, is there an eq settings for the eq knobs the prime go? And I do not mean the mic. Like serato dj pro has. A gain decibel settings.
No, they are what they are.
Great video! Quick question, when creating a playlist, can the denon go automix the songs on the list? Thank you
Not the Prime Go
@@digitaldjtips thank you for your prompt reply. What about to play the next song on the playlist automatically without having to mix it manually? Thanks
Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the top menu, and tap “Continue”.
No VU metters for channels, only for master output... tell me why :D
Really not sure. Of course we may have missed something, but I don't think we have.
Wish there was a way to display artist along with song title at the top of the display while playing a Tidal track.
Would be good
Hi, how to delete files from usb flash or sd card on DJ go Prime? Best regards.
Is there any way of deleting a track while only in the machine itself? I’d like to clean up my tunes without using the computer. Basically delete from the usb internally in go
I’ve found it before, a little red tab that you can slide to delete. But I can’t find it now
The music on your USB is simply a mirror of what's on your computer (or your chosen part of it).
No, only if you’ve made changes you want to bring back.
Sorry to hear you're having issues. Have you upgraded to the newest firmware and desktop software?
I just got one of these. Is there a way to display "classical" key signatures for tracks, as opposed to "Camelot" key signature (which seems to be the default)? I checked the documentation, and Googled, but I didn't find anything. Thanks!
Yes, it's in the settings
@7:34 - the colorful menu with four boxes - the menu he says comes up when you hold 'view' came up ONE time for me, and now the drop down comes up when i press that. What happened? software update?
Since making this tutorial they've updated the software, so your display may look different.
