Good point. However the longline volley is trickier to play and there's no chance of putting it away. Which is the reason most players' instincts will tell them to go crosscourt.
You’re not trying to put low volleys away. You’re trying to help yourself win the point later on. CC low volleys give you a lower chance of winning. Plain and simple.
@@2MinuteTennis yeah but i don't quite get the argument that you're putting the ball somewhere where you're not. If my opponent can run down the crosscourt volley, i should also be able to cover the few steps to the other side to cut off the passing shot, no?
Nope. Bc your momentum is taking you away from where you’re aiming volley when hitting CC. They’re running the SAME direction you’re aiming your volley. You’re free to aim your low volleys anywhere you want. I know you’ll win more points hitting down the line vs cc in a 100 point sample size. Thanks!
As a recreational player, your strategy to win more matches is: cross-court. Down the line shots are higher risk and recreational matches are won on consistency, not on brilliance. The pro world is a completely different game.
yeah its true that is better to hit cross court on the groundstrokes, however this kind of volley is more safe down the line, you have to have great hands if you hit that volley cross court, and most recreational players dont have. if you dont play a great short angle cross court your opponent is going to reach that ball and you are going to lose the point most of the times
This makes a lot of sense. However, I have a doubt -- does it matter if the ball you are hitting is a low volley, or a low-bounce ball ? Should they be treated similarly (I'd think so) or not? Say Djokovic did not hit it into the net. Would it have been a bad judgement on his part to try to go cross court? Should he have tried to hit it down the line (where medvedev is) -- or does this suggestion of hitting on the same side only apply for situations where the opponent is kind of near the base line and not at the net?

Fantastic breakdown, well done! Those down-the-liners are definitely tricky, but when done right they can really put you in control of the point
Thanks, I'm definitely a sucker for hitting the low crosscourt volley. Will try and remember to hit down the line in my next match
Yep. Just keep it in front of you.
I really hope Meddy improves his volleys and go to the net more often! His height is an advantage for net coverage...

@lukitazz25 correct.
Question, what about if you're hitting a low volley from the centre of the court? Should you hit the volley down the middle or angle it to a side?
You can hit the ball anywhere
@@2MinuteTennis Cool, thanks
Yep! I address it in the video at 5:20.
@@2MinuteTennisQuite right, I should've watched more closely

I would've gone cross court BUT NOT anymore thanks to Ryan.
