@@digge2210not really 😂 everyone around the Mediterranean influenced each other. Even the Romans got their food grains from Egypt and adopted whatever good techniques were used by their neighbours
Crazy to think that Roman soldiers subsisted mostly on bread. They even carried on them little pans to make their bread on and their ration of barley or whatever grain they were gien that day
Barley was considered demeaning to eat, and was mostly used as animal fodder or rations for punishment. Bread was mostly wheat. The fact that Romans considered barley to be animal feed actually contributed to their dislike of beer, as that was made from barley.
No, they ate meat veggies and fruit as well. They ate alot of dried meat such as bacon as it was convenient when on the move. They had shepherds with herds and flocks that followed them as they traveled as well.
Salve amici, the ingredienti (presumed only to the Impero Romano available materials were used) are: - Spelt flatbread (Importante: Spelt) - Garlic + goat/sheep cheese cream - Goat/sheep meat - Young Cucumber - White poppy - Celery - Salt For the Garlic cheese cream I refer to Moretum as an example on the creation of such cream. What is missing in list, I could not figure out. Enjoy, I hope I was able to help!!
Agree. It would have been easy to put them in the description. I think some of them are scallions, okra(?), goat cheese, beef(?) and cilantro or parsley.
Too right! Ancient Roman street food! When they were growing up, I cooked “Roman pizza” for the family. Basically, skip the marinara and substitute oil and butter. Add toppings. Cheers!
I've gotten some books on Roman cooking (ie, Apicius) in the past two days, and let me be frank with you. There were A LOT of health issues revolving around their food back then. One of them being rotten food and how they didn't like throwing anything away so they'd just make the stench with herbs and spices.
It's funny how food has so much safe nutrients in it nowadays that people can literally eat until they're so fat they become unhealthy. And yet we act as though instead of this being a sign of how prosperous and successful we are materially (and how bankrupt we are morally) it's taken as a sign that our food is "fake" or "unhealthy". And that food producers are willfully poisoning us 😂😂😂😂😂 What's unhealthy is everyone blaming the food instead of the moral decay that removes personal responsibility from the consumer. I mean, our food is so good and nutritious that you can kill yourself from it. Not because the food is bad or will make you sick but because it's actually so yummy and full of good fuel that you want to eat it until you're over full. And then you blame the food, not your complete lack of self control or even a desire for self control.
Their fast food looks much healthier than ours! You don't get fresh sliced vegetables and fresh herbs on a big Mac! Or fresh baked bread! Mickey D's 2 all beef Patty's special sauce, lettuce cheese on a sesame seed Bun is mass baked preservative filled, high fat content high sodium! I'm not familiar with how they kept their meat fresh. Smoke houses, salt cured or still alive shortly before the cooks prepared it.

Well, of COURSE it was a cameraman that went back in time. The perfect test dummy is one who can never die.

@@jackarmstrong8790 I thought they loved beer. Part of their monthly pay was in beer !

@@SilasGrieves Yes it was, but I was taught that beer was the preferred drink of the Legions !!!
So Shawarma was a thing since forever 🤣
This what I thought 😅 it looks exactly like shawarma, if the sauce he applied was a garlic one.
Not really, more like a taco since the meat appeared to be braised rather than spit roasted.
@@Menuki I'll spit roast you...

Chapattis/shawarma. Mix flour and water knead to form a dough, leave for 30! Mins then roll out form a circle, cook both sides enjoy!

Looks fire.
Looks fresh as hell
I love your big chopping board and utensils. Beautiful!
I can’t explain it, but this dude has the most Roman looking arms ever.
I know what you mean..thought same
do you just eat it like that or did you have to wrap it up like a gyro/shawarma?
Thanks
Are those cucumbers and jalapenos? The bread looks so amazing
Cucumbers i think, jalapenos werent available in Ancient Rome
Cucumber, green onion and, gherkins (tiny pickles.
damn general Maximus was eating good
More of this content!
Looks somewhat similar to a souvlaki. Minus tomatoes
if MCD had this fastfood I would go to eat everyday
Acient roman fast food was stiil much healthier than today's fast food
If that's fast food id hate to know how long regular meals took!
like normal cooking, upto an hour or more, this is 10 15 minutes
All of these people are goddam legends God bless them
Now you understand where tacos really came from
Everyone thinks about history but not the food it doesn't get old
That looks so good.
That looks good... The ASMR isn't coming through, do you think you need a mic?
Yeeesss! This looks freaking delicious!
That looks good!😋
Damn.... that looks good as heaven!
That looks awesome
That and some garum ❤ lol
Chef is eye candy! Think will make this dish tomorrow. Green onion & cucumber & steak 👍sour cream as the spread seems about right
With the chef as desert!
it's crazy how many of the people on this channel are hot
turned out delicious! Never would have thought of veggie combo on my own. One rib eye went a long way.
Dafuq? You can't even see him.
It's not sour cream, in another video he explained how to make that cheese.
This historic interpreter was flexing his master chef chopping skills so hard.
Looks tasty. Evidence? Source material?
Great vid
AIN'T IT JUST AIN'T IT 😎. Yummy.... great knife skills.
That looks delicious
Will you come to my home a cook this for us please 😊
Looks bussin
Sounds good, ill have two thanks

Instead of a dog at ballgame, you order this at a gladiator match
So good 😊
It looks like something Bushcraft Bear would cook in the depths of the Black Forest.
A hairy man cooking. Yum!!!! 😋 More of that!
prefer that anyway anytine of the week!
Ok that actually looks really good does anyone have a time machine I can borrow?
You can ask borrow doc Brown's DMC-12!!! 🤠👍
I don't know what it is but it looks delicious 🤤
So essentially a Gyro ?
Between shawarma and a wheat-tortilla taco. Very very similar to our own fast food today 😊
This looks good now... Now I'm hungry...
Your a blessing
So basically a burrito lol yum!
I just found out that I am part Italian. I hope my ancestors were smashing these after a night out on the lash 👍😂 They look amazing
Now I want this, but can't make it because there isn't a recipe listed. 😕

Not too surprised to see something like this shows up.
That looks tasty, and so does the chef. 😉
So it's like the Roman version of a Cheesesteak, minus the cheese?
Makes me think of a gyro.
I think the white stuff was cheese.
This is a gyro a shawarma has tahini sauce and is more similar to burrito than a sandwhich
Et tu, McDonald’s?
GOOD TO SEE A MAN IN THE KITCHEN FOR A CHANGE 👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃

My man has a medieval bench scraper 🤣

then it wouldn't be asmr
I think but I could be wrong, he’s chopping shiz.
🙄
What's the white sauce on the flat bread??
whisked egg whites, or goats cheese or a form of cheese or a form of whisked lard I'd imagine
my Mexican ass thought it was a taco
Not sure what it is, but looks delicious

A meat, veggie and butter sandwich made with unleavened bread, very portable.
I'll have two number IX's, a number IX large, a number VI with extra garum, two number XLV's, one with cheese, and a large wine.
Nah they used to go to subway
Minus the pickles this is super similar to what I eat
I think those are just plain cucumbers.
meat was very rarely consumed by the average roman, it was very expensive
Now I'm hungry. Beside the good looking food, the chef's looking good too.😋

I want the knives they look like the rock better than most chef knivws
The original Gyro
