I think its also important to discuss Elvis crediting the artists that came before him. The same people that would call Elvis a racist, without knowing or caring about A THING about him, would say he stole music or entire songs. Elvis credited every song owner for every song and on every album. No exceptions. Never stole a single lyric, song or signature dance move. Elvis was a creative supernova. A legendary song arranger that would interpret music in new ways that attracted young people. Noone else had that kind of ability back then. Black, white, or anyone else.
Black song owners like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Otis Blackwell loved working with Elvis. They had a routine .... Elvis would buy the song rights, then Elvis would send royalty checks to them based on his own sales. In addition to that, their own record sales would skyrocket as America would seek out the original artists to songs Elvis would record.
So black songwriters would get three new income channels that would exist solely because Elvis covered their song:
    1. song rights.
    2. royalty checks in the mail.
    3. Their own album sales would skyrocket.
THIS is how Elvis began to tear down racist barriers in the music business and he legit opened it up to everyone. And the corruption of the record CEOs were so bad... even black record execs were ripping off their black artists.
Exhibit A: Big Mamma Thorton. Big Mamma was paid $500 for her work on Hound Dog. Given to her by Don Robey, gangster and owner of Peacock Records because he know she was illiterate, she couldn't read or write. So he made her sign all her profits over to him and he fed her almost nothing in return. He made her sign contracts that he knew she couldn't read. Legally, nothing could be done about it. She died almost penniless. He stole Millions of dollars that belonged to her. And he mismanaged her career in clubs where he knew the owners and got paid directly.

The truth of course is that Elvis did not appropriate or steal music from black people.
That is a lie told by people who are purposefully spreading mistruths or uneducated to who the bad guys really were, the execs of record companies, radio stations and concert venues. Elvis battled ALL THREE for the betterment of the black community, fellow musicians who were not getting heard nor paid, and society a whole.
Elvis opened the door for a lot of black musicians. Elvis CREDITED EVERY SONGWRITER on EVERY SONG, on EACH ALBUM. EVERY SONG WRITER GOT PAID, and some paid really well (Little Richard, Chuck Berry and especially Otis Blackwell made a fortune on royalties) Black songwriters SOLD SONG RIGHTS TO ELVIS to perform their artwork, Elvis didn't steal or appropriate any song.
The truth? Elvis was a pioneer. One of the architects of Rock and Roll. He did not steal black music. The 1950s was an era of music and culture experimentation and many thousands of hours jamming melding of R&B, Gospel and Rockabilly.
Elvis was in the churches in the 1940s putting together new sounds, before Chuck Berry and Little Richard ever cut a record.
Elvis was a genuine part of this era and now sound. He was a pioneer. But still a pioneer. In that era, it was an age of legendary song writers. Elvis performed some ~700 songs. He was a musician who played great rhythm guitar and piano and boy could HE SING. Legendary sought after rich baritone. ZERO of his works were stolen.
Legends such as Al Green, BB King, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr, Chuck Berry and Little Richard roamed the Earth at the same time Elvis did and they all knew Elvis,
loved him, and praised him very highly. Elvis merged black and white music to help form Rock and Roll jolted a youth movement and civil rights movement to the forefront so both could succeed.
It’s safe to say you know nothing about Elvis. Maybe you can give his story a chance.

One more class my friend. This may show you more than my other two posts- what did black VIPs of the day actually say about EP?
The biggest Legends in the black community THAT KNEW ELVIS are on record. Here are a few of the biggest, and they actually KNEW Elvis personally and professionally.
CHUCK BERRY: “Describe Elvis Presley? He was the greatest who ever was, is or ever will be.”
BARRY WHITE: "Elvis Presley saved my life." White continued: "It was like he was telling me: ‘Change your life, Barry, you’re thinking about going another way. It’s now or never.’ I understood that."
BEYONCE- Elvis is iconic; a lot of performers today look to him for inspiration.
MUHAMMAD ALI - 'Elvis was my close personal friend. He had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know. We must understand, Elvis did lot for poor people, he cared for people, he had a good heart, he just wasn't a person who was great with talent, but he was great in spirit and with God in his heart. I wouldn't praise nobody if he don't deserve it, because I am the greatest of all time in boxing, in boxing. I said boxing ! But I'm telling you, I'm Black, I'm a Islamic, I'm 100% different from you. But I’ll tell the world Elvis was the greatest of all time. I'm a Muslim who's black who stands up for what he believes. I don't have to say what I don't feel, I'm not false, I don't have to say this. I have no Bosses. I'm free. He to me, is one of the greatest singers, actors and all round men of all time.” ~ "THE GREATEST" MUHAMMAD ALI.
BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING
The "GODFATHER OF SOUL" JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that Soul Brother”.
During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 hours and 30 minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to physically help him out of the room. James was devastated -- James and Elvis sang Gospel together many a night to all hours of the morning at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presleys because they were so close. After the wake, back to the studio to cut a personal tribute to his lifelong friend, a song they sang together privately th-cam.com/video/TCH_OROH_WI/w-d-xo.html -- but JB changes the words as only he can.
JOHN LEE HOOKER actually called Elvis "The ROCK AND ROLL KING" in his music studio during one of his songs to tribute his close personal friend, EP. Listen to it here -- th-cam.com/video/cczYlw8XWZY/w-d-xo.html&t= "One of the greatest entertainers. He was the King. One of the greatest people to ever been born." -- JOHN LEE HOOKER
JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON
Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident he would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, bar none.
LITTLE RICHARD - "He sung my Tootie Frutti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard
CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music. He was raised on it. And he really did know what he was talking about. He was singing Gospel all the time - almost anything he did had that flavor. You can't get away from what your roots are." - Cissy Houston (The Sweet Inspirations co-founder & member & sang vocals for Elvis, also mother of Whitney Houston)
RANDY JACKSON of the JACKSON 5: "Elvis used Rock and Roll to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
ISAAC HAYES - "Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone in the business." - Isaac Hayes
WHITNEY HOUSTON - " Elvis was very nice to my mother, Cissy. I would see him backstage, he was amazing to look at!"
ESTELLE BROWN of the SWEET INSPIRATIONS: "When I first started working with Elvis, I made the mistake once of calling him "BOSS" Elvis replied back to me, "Estelle, I'm not your boss, I'm your brother." After that exchange --- the bond between Elvis and the Sweet Inspirations strengthened into a lifelong bond. Estelle said that "We felt like equals." The Sweet Inspirations spent the rest of their lives explaining whenever the questions arose how wonderful Elvis was to them.
SHONKA DUKUREH - "I hope people [watch the Elvis movie] with an open heart and be willing to learn or unlearn some things that they may have thought they knew about Elvis, his life and his legacy.”

  • @kathifielder1110

Thanks for reacting to Elvis. But please do a bit of research on him. He gave credit to black artists all the time. He was raised, during a time of segregation, in mixed neighborhoods because his family was extremely poor. He was heavily influenced by the music that surrounded him as a child and as a teenager. His path was not an easy one because white racists, who were terrified that he was bringing what they called race music into the mainstream and therefore uniting the races, did everything in their power to kill his career. It would have been much easier for him to simply change to a less controversial style of music, but he stuck with what he loved. Many black artists were able to emerge from the shadows and become famous because of Elvis. He respected them, and they respected him.
Let me throw a couple Elvis quotes your way:
"A lot of people seem to think I started this business. But rock 'n' roll was here a long time before I came along. Nobody can sing that music like colored people. Let's face it: I can't sing it like Fats Domino can. I know that".
"The coloured folks been singing it and playing it like I'm doin' now man for more years than I know. They played it like that in shanties and in their juke joints and nobody paid it no mind 'til I goosed it up. I got it from them".
I hope you'll react to Elvis and the Black Community - That Echo Will Never Die (parts 1 and 2).

Elvis did give credit to those before him, yet everything he did, was also made individual by him. He didn't copy, he made it all unique in a style all his own. Watch "Elvis and the Black Community" and you'll see what I mean when the legends speak about him. I think future generations and rumors started saying black performers felt he stole from them, there is little evidence that was true, and lots that it wasn't true. They loved what he did to music and he broke down the wall that held black music into mainstream music, due to racism and segregation laws. Plus he was raised with black and gospel music, rhythm and blues, and melded it with other types of music like country music, once again, making it his own. One of a kind that was and is highly respected by the musicians and singers to this day.

The criticism you have heard is not true. Elvis grew up in a mostly black ghetto. He learned music and dancing from his friends there and from the Baptist church he attended where he sang in the choir. He didn't steal anything; he simply performed in the only way he knew. He openly acknowledged that he was influenced by the Blues and Gospel. He had black backup singers during segregation and faced backlash for it; he did it despite the criticism he received. He was once asked to perform at the Astrodome but was told not to bring "the black girls." He refused to perform unless they were also allowed to perform. You need to review "If I Can Dream" from his 1968 comeback special. The song is a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King who had just been assassinated. Elvis loved MLK and contributed numerous times to MLK'S fight for civil rights. The TV executives said "no" to the song because there were race riots going on after MLK's murder. Elvis' own people told him the song was too controversial, but he fought for it until he won. The song is literally him pouring out his grief on stage that MLK didn't get to see his dream of equality come true during his lifetime. It's the most emotional, guy wrenching performance Elvis ever did, begging for MLK's dream to come true. It will show you the man's true heart. Reportedly, he collapsed in tears as soon as he left the stage because he poured every bit of his pain and grief into that performance, which was also because of Bobby Kennedy's assassination. He just wanted peace and love and for all the hatred and violence to stop. Remember that this was over 50 years ago amidst the struggle for civil rights when segregation was still in effect.

I think he is discovering that now! :) It was the ERA. Civil rights era. The Segregation era. Elvis was a huge supporter for civil rights and he risked his life and career to break racism and segregation up. He stood up and helped... no doubt about it. --- And some people DIDN'T LIKE THAT. So they lied about him. But most people LOVED HIM. And they always will.

Born in 1961. I remember Elvis introducing the "Black" sound to an American audience that was socially pressured to not support the soul/blues/jazz/rock influence of the less representative artists on TV or radio.
It was an uphill climb for new artists to record or release "that kinda music" to impressionable youth.
The beginning was a great journey...we got Aretha and James Brown and Marvin Gaye and lil Richard and Chuck Berry ...the Supremes ,the Temptations, Damn...Soul Train on every Saturday ....we would crank it up and dance like we knew how to.
Then the Rolling Stones ...Led Zeppelin,Cream, and on and on ...yes Elvis benefitted but he did not create the persona that was 'Marketed" to the masses.
Does Eminem say he created rap. What about The Beastie Boys or House of Pain ...soup is soup good or bad...who gets credit for the first recipe isn't as important as WE ALL get some of it.

@@areyoutherious4290 Hello there. My point is that racist people like to perpetuate this notion that Elvis never gave credit, as you erroneously suggest. In fact, he always did. When people called him the King, he would either state that the real king was someone like Fats Domino or other contemporary black artists, or that the only King was Jesus. When asked about rock ‘n’ roll, he would always says he didn’t invent it, and list some originating artists, and that he only adapted it. He also frequently cited Roy Hamilton as one of his inspirations, et al. So this nonsense about him not giving people credit is just that: nonsense. He never took credit, only gave it. That’s why it’s important to educate yourself before spreading these untruths. Look it up. Again a lovely day to you.

Suggestion to grow your views: Can you add a disclaimer to the beginning of the video that Elvis changed your mind with this performance? You will turn off Elvis fans with your opening. In fact, you might want to do another review video altogether explaining that and then actually focus on the lyrics, which you don't mention at all in this video. Elvis grew up in a mostly black ghetto, and he recorded this song by Mac Davis because no one else would and he thought it was a story that needed to be told. The story is about poverty and hunger leading a young man to crime and an early death at the hands of the police. It is told with compassion for the young man and even blames society for not helping him and just looking the other way instead. I feel like you enjoyed the optics and music and missed the point of the song, which is from approximately 50 years ago and still resonates today.

I know people who was born after Elvis after Elvis passed. They wasn't there they don't know what their talking about.
When Elvis sung someone's music. He had to pay the writer to sing his song. People think certain songs belongs to a certain person. If they didn't write the song the singer had to pay with royalties from the sales of that song. In the Ghetto was written by a man named Mac Davis. Mac went to Elvis personally and asked him to sing it. Elvis did it happily but Mac was paid by Roalties. Elvis sang the song but Mac owned the song. Okay just like Whitney Houston sang I Will Always Love You. Dolly Parton wrote the song. Dolly even recorded the song in her country style. The song was a big hit for Dolly back in the 70's. People think it was Whitney's song but really it's Dolly's song and Whitney sung it.
I think I might have just found a new friend. I think people should have explained to you what I just did. Just remember this and it will keep you out of trouble. Don't believe what the media tells you or rumors. Research it before you speak it in public. It will keep you safe and it's a way to end rumors.

Check out the top 100 songs of 1956, and you will see quite a few black singers with hit record. There were even more black singers with hit records in 57 and 58. Elvis just had the whole package.

During Elvis’s time most singers did not write their own songs and Elvis wrote none of his. He was the first person to record this. He grew up dirt poor in mixed neighbors. He lived in the projects when his dad was in jail. He was a strong supporter of racial harmony and Martin Luther King. Watch Elvis and The Black Community. And Elvis the King Of Kindness so you can give him a fair assessment.

Nope. Elvis did not steal music ever. He always paid his dues and had on every record label the name of the songwriter. and song writers knew if he sang their song, it would earn them money.
Watch “ Elvis and the Black Community “ parts 1 & 2. Learn for yourself the Truth about Elvis. Don’t hook onto the hate and lies spread by jealous and envious people who just wanted to make money or save face from bogus words. Even Little Richard said that Elvis, singing Titti Frutti, let him get famous in a time when Black performers never got air time. Elvis opened the gateway to diversity and good relations. Also you said he only had black singers to make himself look good. Well they would argue with you about that. He only chose to work with the best musicians and singers. When he was told by some event organisers to leave “the black girls behind” Elvis refused and said if his girls couldn’t be there, then he would not turn up either!, They soon changed their tune because the 200,000 ticket holding fans would have gone mad. But Elvis was prepared to lose his fee of at least $130,000 Who’d do that today? Stick up for their principles?
So…. Do change your opinions on Elvis. We fans are loyal and understand the prevalence of nonsense out there. But there’s no proof. No film, no written words that back up the rumours and hate about Elvis. Only opinions from people who never met him or worked with him. Have an open mind and you may get a lot of subs!! 🙏👌

OK I’m watching your reactions in the ghetto and I had to clear something up. With all due respect to you young man I think you should research prior to making statements such as you did. Elvis did honor the black community in more ways than you can possibly imagine, and he never called himself the king if you look, he called Fats Domino the king in an interview he never took that as his own station in life so there you’re incorrect I would highly suggest that you watch Elvis and the black community on the station parts one and two he did more-non segregation then, perhaps any white performer had the guts to do. So you said you needed help I will subscribe to your channel however, you need to educate yourself watch Elvis in the black community put this on, and you’ll see that he never robbed from anybody! It’s very difficult for a white little boy, who was so damn poor that he couldn’t even live in a white poor community so he grew up with Black people. He knew nothing else. So when he started his career, he had black mannerisms he acted black dress black he thought it was acceptable so he goes on TV and people bash him. They call him a black lover they ban his music from all jukeboxes because he looked and acted black. It’s very difficult for a little boy not to act black when that’s all he ever knew he grew up in a gospel black church being one of the only white little boys in the entire congregation. So did he steal or Was he a white little boy who happened to not know the difference whether he was black or white so God bless you please educate yourself and I will help you with your channel by subscribing. God bless you.w❤

You are way off in your comments about Elvis and how he treated the performers that influenced him, where on earth did you hear this stuff? Try finding out the facts on your own before jumping on the bash Elvis bandwagon. Did you know he was called the ‘N’ word? Actually called that and protested against because of the type of music he played.
I am not sure what you expected from him, should he recite a list of every performer that ever inspired or influenced him whenever he went on stage?
By the way, having black backup singers at that point in time did nothing for his career, he hired them because he liked how they sang and he was comfortable with them. Actually the times being what they were it actually made things harder for him, when he was supposed to play a large venue in texas they actually told him to leave the black girls at home and they would provide backup singers for him. White backup singers. He refused to perform without his girls, if they couldn’t go on then neither would he. They caved and the girls went.

What do want him to do make an announcement t I got this from black ppl . Elvis had soul. you are born with soul you don't learn soul .Why is it ok to say Micheal J is the king of pop not Elvis the king of rock n roll. Because he's black? That's a very small mined view. Elvis did not call himself the king....he dislike the title because he said there is one king Christ. The people of all back grounds made him the king. Elvis himself did not write a track for Martin Luther King, but songwriter Walter Earl Brown did write If I Can Dream, which had been based on conversations that he and Elvis had about the assassination. Now about dancing...people of your race say white ppl can't dance. Every culture dances are different doesn't mean they can't dance because they don't like you. You don't have to call him the king but respect he was a great artist and performer.

    All American
Born Musics are the contributions of many many different races living in the hood
N the blending of all these different races Musics
N took time to develop into New American Original Musics
Elvis did not name himself King of Rock n Roll
It was a term given when he took off a Rocket
A DJ used to call all new rock n roll bands n singers the kings of rock n roll
Elvis grew up more hood than us!
    No FS
    No cash aid
    No section 8
    No med-i-cal
N Elvis grandpa n daddy built their shotgun house in the poorside of town during the great Depression
Elvis's daddy weren't to prison n he n his mamahad to move to cheaper quarters as they had lost their house
Elvis grew up in the ghettos of Tupelo MS 1935
    Elvis was a twin
His twin brother died at birth which explains his mother's over protectiveness n their close mother son relationship
Elvis attended Baptist Churches in the Hood.
Hoods are more mixed than y'all realize
    Sang Gospel
Won his 1st singing contest at 10 yrs old.
Elvis took care of Otis Redding s hospital bills n living expenses in the end til he died.
Elvis played in Black R & B bands
    Rhythm guitar
    Before being out front singing
    He played piano.

Stranger in my own hometown 1969
I got a woman way across town 1960?
    Elvis didn't steal shit n
Elvis always gave promts to Black singers n songwriters
And just like Michael Jackson -
Elvis got fucked over by his manager -
Tho Michaels was his Dad, Elvis got no better from his Dad not looking out for them
Elvis was inspired to electric guitar by
    Sister Rosetta Tharpe
    In an Evangelical Tent Revival
    I am a Ghetto Gramma
N I know why n when the harredfor Elvis Presley started w/us ghetto folks
N it is our own ghetto racism

No 1 rule in our hood
    Hate Whitey
    Rt???!!!?
