It appears you're a cubs fan. thanks for not blaming bartman, that whole scenario really pisses me off. i think anyone else would have reached for that ball too in bartman's situation. I don't think alou had a play on that ball anyways.

Jamar Leonard Yes, heaven forbid you try to grab a free souvenir in a playoff game. Alou ruined this man's life (along with thousands of fans ruining his life). Many things to blame in Game 6, but not Steve.

Pretty good list. I think you missed on 2 of them though:
    1. I think the Mets worst moment was losing to the Cardinals in the 2006 NLCS. The Mets were heavy favorites. The last out of Beltran taking a called third strike with the bases loaded was far more devastating than Game 5 of the 2015 World Series.
    2. For the Dodgers, I think it should have been Bobby Thomson's home run off of Ralph Branca. It was and still is an iconic moment.
Honorable mention: Maybe the Astros loss against the Phillies in the 1980 NLCS surpasses their ALDS loss to the Royals. The Astros had a 5-run lead in the 8th inning with Nolan Ryan on the mound, and they lost in probably the best postseason series ever.
    Just my 2 cents.

    • @wpreston86
      @wpreston86 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think that the 1988 NLCS was just as bad, if not worse for the Mets, As bad as the Thomson home run was, the 1952 World Series was a blown 3-2 lead, they were playing the Yankees who always beat then in the WS and they never won the Series and not a play-in series clincher, so that would be worse. I would argue too that the 1986 NLCS was just as bad for Houston.

    • @jackson5116
      @jackson5116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mets were truly beat in that series, that wasn't like they blew it, Wainwright's curve was really good (supposedly at the time the best in the game as Kershaw hadn't arrived on the scene yet).

Randy Marsh He didn't kill two people you fuckin idiot. First off, it was never confirmed as to who was driving the boat. Also, 2/3 people aboard the boat, including Jose, were found with cocaine in their systems. Sadly, as much as I feel for the guy who chose not to do the drugs, there is an extremely strong chance that he knew and accepted the fact that the two other men were coked out, from then on its his choice over whether to get in the boat with them. Jose didn't kill anyone, they all just killed themselves.

Bobby Thomson home run. That destroyed not only the dodgers but Ralph Branca. The Dodgers had a 13.5 game lead on the Giants but the giants came back and forced a three game playoff and came from behind in the last inning of the last game. Not to mention the giants were probably using a telescope and a buzzer to steal the catcher’s signs. Yeah, I would say that’s the worst loss in anyone’s franchise.

Any Detroit tiger fan knows the worst moment was when Galaraga (sorry don't know how to spell his name) was throwing a perfect game and the batter hit an infield grounder and was called safe at first. Worst call in MLB history if you ask me. If you look at a video of it you can clearly see the runner was out.

As a Mets fan, I really think Beltran taking strike 3 was worse. I mean by that time in the series, I think we all knew deep down we were getting outplayed, and it was the Royals' time. Doesn't mean it didn't hurt, but Beltran looking still makes me tear up. Also, that 2006 team never got back to the playoffs. This Mets team still can win it all with the same players. With Bumgarner pitching what % chance did you give Perez to drive him in on the next at bat? 10%. That would've been the most epic finish ever to a World Series. Either tie it on an inside the park homer, or get thrown out at the plate to end a world series.

How is that relevant to what he was saying? The Giants that year were a force to be reckoned with that came back from huge series deficits in the DS and CS. I don't think anyone was all that shocked to see the Tigers lose, we just all thought the Tigers would put up more of a fight.

No way the choke job against the Royals in the 2015 ALDS was a worst moment for the Astros than Lidge giving up the bomb to Pujols in the 2005 NLCS. It might have mattered more because we went on to win that series but ask any Astros fan and that's the moment they would pick.

I would say Lidge giving up the walk off to Podsednik in game 2 of the WS was worse than the Pujols blast. The Astros had a real chance to steal home field in that game and useless Lidge gave up a homer to Chicago's worst hitter. That was deflating.

The worst moment hands down was the previous year, 2004. Astros up in the series 3-2 against the Cards in the NLCS and Edmonds hits a walk off bomb to take game 6. Astros lose game 7.

None of these are even close to the worst for the Astros. It's a tie between game 6 of the 1986 NLCS and game 5 of the 1980 NLCS. In both cases, Astros were 6 outs or less away from their 1st world series. (Because everyone knew Scott would win 1986 game 7.) I think 1980 was worse, giving up 5 runs in the 8th.

In fairness game 3's 1-0 win could have gone either way, so they weren't totally out of it (that was the real turning point, because Verlander pitched like a true ace that game, but tantrum Lackey was able to get the win thanks to bitching about strikes to the umpire).

    • @TheGeoScholar
      @TheGeoScholar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's not the worst moment. 1987 is worse. They were the best team in the majors and beaten 4 games to 1 in the ALCS by a team who had the worst regular season record of all 4 postseason qualifiers. Furthermore, the Twins were 29-52 on the road during the regular season. That the Tigers were beaten at home, TWICE, clinching the pennant in Detroit, made it highly ironic.

  • @johnkoziol2158

As a Boston Red Sox fan, 1986 was a really tough year. The high was the Davey Henderson homer of Dickie Moore that put the Red Sox into the World Series only to have Bill Buckner let that grounder go through his legs. I didn't sleep very well that night because I was too focused on why then-manager, John McNamara, never put Dave Stapleton in as a defensive replacement for Buckner. The way the Red Sox came back against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series after being just one game away from elimination at 0-3, becoming the only team in Major League Baseball history to do it made up for that debacle by Buckner and many other terrible times endured by this Boston Red Sox fan.

    • @ryankliewer847

I believe the worst baseball moment ever for the Royals was in 1977 when they lost the deciding 5th game of the ALCS in KC against the Yankees when they had a 3-1 lead going into the 8th. They gave up 1 run in the 8th, then 3 runs in the 9th and lost 5-3. That season they won 102 games, more than any other Royals team. One of those great teams in the 70s or early 80s should have won a World Series and 1977 was their best shot, so I think that was the most devastating when you look back at it (plus Royals vs Yankees was the best rivalry going in baseball during that time). I think they put the 1976 ALCS walk off loss in New York on there because it was dramatic, but even if they win that game they would have had no chance against the Reds that year. Sure the 2014 WS game 7 loss was heartbreaking, but really once Bumgarner came into that game with a lead, the Royals didn't have much of a shot. If Blanco doesn't completely botch Alex Gordon's 9th inning hit in CF, it would have been just a single and the ending would have been less dramatic.

Great compilation. That being said, there were a couple that I disagreed with.
As a diehard Astros fan, although the 2015 ALDS loss hurt, the 1986 NLCS loss to the Mets hurt worse because the Astros outplayed the Mets in that series, but the umps took it away from us. From Joe West not calling Wally Backman out for being out of the basepath in Game 3, to the missed call at first in Game 5, every close call went the Mets' way. Game 3 was the only time in my life I ever cried after a ball game, because they stole it from us. I hated the Mets until this past season when we finally got our World Championship. I have forgiven the Mets now.
The other one I take issue with is, how could the one for the Dodgers not be the 1951 Shot Heard 'Round the World? "The Giants won the pennant! The Giants won the pennant!" Remember, they had led the Giants by 13 games at one point. To lose it in that manner was far worse than losing in the World Series. At least all the teams that lost in the World Series won their league pennant that season.

As a die-hard Yankee fan, the worst moment for the Yanks had to be their heartbreaking loss in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. They had the win in their back pocket, with Mariano Rivera on the mound with a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, and Mo gave up the hit that lost us the Series. Not only did the Yankees need the championship, but so did the city of New York, after all they'd been through less than two months earlier. The 2001 World Series was a classic case of adding insult to injury, if you ask me.

    My opinion.
    1) Arizona Diamondbacks: Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS
    2) Atlanta Braves: Toss up between 2005 NLDS where the Astros beat the Braves, 2012 Wild Card game, and Game 7 of the 1991 World Series.
    3) Baltimore Orioles: 1996 ALCS where that kid grabbed a ball, and ruled a home run.
    4) Boston Red Sox: 1986 World Series, Game 6 (the "behind the bag" moment)
    5) Chicago Cubs: 2003 NLCS, Game 6(the Steve Bartman Game)
    6) Chicago White Sox: The Black Sox scandal and Game 6 of the 1993 ALCS
    7) Cincinnati Reds: Pete Rose being banned from baseball
    8) Cleveland Indians: 1997 World Series, Game 7
    9) Colorado Rockies: 2007 World Series sweep
    10) Detroit Tigers: Games 4 and 5 of the 1987 ALCS
    11) Houston Astros: Game 6 1986 NLCS vs the Mets.
    12) Kansas City Royals: Game 5 of the 1980 World Series
    13) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim: 1986 ALCS, Game 5 and the tie breaker vs the Seattle Mariners in 1995
    14) Los Angeles Dodgers: October 3,1951(as the Brooklyn Dodgers), "Shot Heard Around the World", and October 5,1991(Dodgers lose last game of the season, knocking them out of the playoffs). Both moments game against the Giants.
    15) Miami Marlins: Death of Jose Fernandez
    16) Milwaukee Brewers: Game 7 of the 1982 World Series, and then Games 5 and 6 of the 2011 NLCS.
    17) Minnesota Twins: 2008 tie breaker vs the Chicago White Sox, the "Blackout Game".
    18) New York Mets: Game 7 of both the 1988 NLCS and the 2006 NLCS
    19) New York Yankees: Game 3 of the 1981 World Series, Game 7 of the 2001 World Series
    20) Oakland Athletics: Games 3 and 4 of the 1992 ALCS
    21) Philadelphia Phillies: Game 6 of the 1993 World Series, Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS
    22) Pittsburgh Pirates: Roberto Clemente's death, Pittsburgh Drug Trials, and the 1992 NLCS Game 7.
    23) St. Louis Cardinals: 1985 World Series, Game 6
    24) San Diego Padres: 2007 tie breaker game
    25) San Francisco Giants: 1989 Earthquake, 2002 World Series Game 6
    26) Seattle Mariners: Game 6 1995 ALCS, Game 162 of the 2014 regular season (Athletics vs Rangers)
    27) Tampa Bay Rays: Game 4 of the 2013 ALDS
    28) Texas Rangers: 2011 World Series Game 6
    29) Toronto Blue Jays: Game 7 1985 ALCS
    30) Washington Nationals: Game 5 of the 1981 NLCS (as the Montreal Expos).

What about the 16 inning game against the Mets in the playoffs in 1986? The Astros had the game in the bag pretty much going into the ninth inning. And they had their ace Mike Scott, who had the Mets scared shitless looming for Game 7 at the Astrodome. Had there been a seventh game, then I'm absolutely confident that the Astros would've won it. The Mets already knew that it would be a major struggle in trying to figure Mike Scott out so Game 6 in essence, became a de facto "do or die" game for the Mets.
