About media being ephemeral. In '84 or so, at a computer conference, one session was about how we should keep paper copy & store it. At the time, we were beginning to save work digitally. He said that our digital media would change, our software would evolve, so that our current designs & writings could become lost forever. It was a silly notion, going digital was forever. But he was right. Unless something was really important, the 80's until the PDF format is pretty much gone.
Yes! You said when something you love to do becomes work, it is not fun. Big reason is because of having to make money. Loved music, had to play coffee houses to get thru college, not fun. Loved inventing, as engineer, tightened deadlines & squeezing more into smaller form factors, less power, etc etc.. no fun, not even any life outside of work.
I was also raised by parents who didn't love music. We didn't have an FM radio until about 1968, and that was a monophonic clock radio with a tiny speaker. Oddly, my parents did have a few LPs and no way to play them. But they were Jonathan Winters, Smothers brothers and one other I can't remember. At some point in my teenage years I bought a cheap, stand alone record player. Metal needle and mono. I immediately modified it to add an aux input and impedance matching transformer so I could run speaker output from radio receivers into it. In later years my father claimed that he had complete tone deafness and music was all noise to him.
That’s something like 1 vending machine per 7 people if the machines were here in Australia.

Very nice thumbnail. Very nice (as in Fruitypoppin, not dishonest comedian.). Also, Fran, if you please: if you knew of someone who was in trouble, you'd refer them to appropriate contacts for help right? Or even better send help straight to them, especially if they need a lot? I'm asking because I've been having strange trouble with my credits cards and bank accounts for a very long time, and I don't knw what to do. People really do say I'm ungrateful as well, and horribly enough I'm afriad they think I complain a lot. Just sharing a rhetorical opinion.
