    Lana excels in putting together an album where a lot of artist fail. She brings a cohesive project where the order of the songs matters instead of just a few clusters that have been released at once. Love Song is such a beautiful, soft, vulnerable song and it weakens you because you start thinking of this beautiful almost fairytale romance and then in comes Cinnamon Girl to kick you in the teeth with "If you hold me without hurting me, you'll be the first who ever did" and it is perfect. Norman Fucking Rockwell is her best album and is quite possibly the best album I've ever heard. I'm almost afraid for her next album because how do you top this? This is the quality that most artist hope to end their career on.

    • @Emily-ni2pr

      I think the same way. This album, along with ultraviolence, are definitely two of the best albums I have ever heard. It's really upsetting that people don't realise how incredible she is. I am so excited but nervous for her next album, either way it will be amazing.

      exactly my thoughts, though i literally love every one of her albums, and honeymoon is objectively as great as nfr and uv, cause the transitions, the way it opens and closes, the way how every song has similar vibe, and you hear "oh it's lana's honeymoon", but they all sound different

      @@jackie9397 In an artistic sense, maybe it's a safe bet that HM beats LFL, but as far as albums I want to listen to, that's an easy contest.

    • @user77797
      @user77797 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      for me the progression for lana was like this:
      lizzy grant aka lana del ray: not super cohesive, but still carries the “hawaiian glam surf metal” that she’s mentioned before
      born to die/paradise: the lolita era as we all know, where she didn’t understand herself but she was starting to know what her music would sound like
      ultraviolence: a good girl gone bad kind of direction. the sweet little lolita character that lana had portrayed shatters as she gets into alcohol, drugs, and an abusive relationship with jim.
      honeymoon: lana’s mellowed out a little, and this whole album has ‘50s cinematic feels and i’ve always wished i had it on vinyl because i feel like that’s what it was intended for.
      lust for life: from new york to hollywood with this album. despite what most say, i think that this was lana’s opportunity to break out of either being the innocent lolita character or the badass girl. she could be herself more on this album, and i think that’s one of the main reasons it was criticized so much, because the critics and fans were used to lana in a different way than she was coming across on this album. it still has some sparkling festival tracks and a few ballads that are worth a listen.
      norman fucking rockwell!: this whole album has a californian surfer feeling, which calls back to her earlier works. the way lana discusses relationships isn’t as childish and it feels as if she’s found her place in the world, which maybe she has.

      Lana del Rey deserves to be praised. In my opinion, she could handle the heavy burden of carrying our stories as millennials, this broken generation that went through a lot in a world that just won't stop giving us a break. There's no one but Lana who trailblazed a path for younger artists to be brave and presents stories that don't necessarily fit in the box of "standard love". You'll find stories of death, depression, love, atypical relationships, abuse and etc. within the folds of Lana's lyrical contents. Had it not been inspired by what she does, I would have never been able to put out an award winning film out there, inspired by her song "Cinnamon", talking about how she navigating through Barrie's depression. Lana fans, let me know what you think about it!! th-cam.com/video/nSC4ptU79-8/w-d-xo.html

    I know already that I'm going to be back to rewatch this many times. There's something so magical about people being touched by the music in such a way. It hurts my heart how underappreciated she is as a writer and an artist. So there's nothing better for me than watching people give her the recognition she deserves.
    And although I am a huge fan, sometimes I forget just how good the songs are. I love rediscovering them with the person reacting and being blown away each time

    It’s assumed that TNBAR is about her writing Ultraviolence with her ex boyfriend. The demo to it actually says that he “did it all for fame” and that it was he that was obsessed, but it seems that she’s realized that they both were over their heads and put their work above the health of their relationship so she changed the lyrics. He’s the subject of California as well.
