As a college student, the iPad is a studying machine. Sorting through notes/slides with the ability to write/highlight on pdf and docs is way more useful than a laptop tbh.
Tough call: I lived off my iPad Pro 12.9 inch for 2 years fully and it was excellent. But it is different and certain file and app use will be limited to iOS versions. I’ve just gone for the MacBook Pro 14 as I just needed to move things like video editing, diagnose work and Notion template development onto a desktop machine. If all you do is consume content, write, take notes, do a bit of creative design work it’s a fantastic option - for more heavy spreadsheet work, higher end video work or publishing stuff - I’ve gone to a MacBook. Good luck! Thanks for watching.
@@amaniiexxchnge For me no iPad can ever substitute a pc. I would buy a pc ( depending on your needs ) and then an iPad. An iPad is awesome for note taking, reading, organisation...But nothing will change the quickness, the installation of programs, the hability of having 2 screens...If you do not use specialised software, don't mind going a bit slow and think that 64 or 256gb are enough, then go for it. If not, buy a pc. Hope this was useful!

Simon, have they caught on to the fact that you are a *very* effective communicator, yet? I am hoping you are being sponsored left and right because your demonstrations make everything you feature look like I have to have it...yesterday! I'm not even a Mac person (I've studiously avoided becoming one), but I'm thinking now (all your fault) that maybe I need an iPad. Also, I really appreciate your commitment to production values. Thanks for another informative and entertaining video.
Ah thanks for the great feedback! Gently getting those sponsorship requests yes: although being careful to only say yes when it’s a “hell yes!” for fitting the channel. :) Yeah, iPads are fab if you have a clear use for them… (sorry for convincing you!?) 🤦♂️😂
Power up Todoist by syncing it to gcal and sending those notes to Evernote with IFTTT. My workflow is “quick thoughts or ideas go in Todoist, it gets synced to Evernote. Evernote is fully featured and I could just use that, but I also have IFTTT to sync notes I tag as “work” in Evernote get sent to OmniFocus 3, because I like it better for work tasks. Evernote is my life organizer and OmniFocus is my work organizer.
By the way, love your little intruder kitty. My kitty, Sasha loves to try and squeeze between me and my iPad 8th Gen while trying to appear nonchalant about what she’s doing!
I do wish Apple would lean into the iPad being the "next step" in technology from laptops, but unfortunately that would mean competing with themselves so they still do what they can to keep their laptops and tablets separate. The lines are certainly blurring, but I can't wait for a future where iPad workflows are the norm!
I don't think its a greed problem. It would be probably easier for them to import mac software straight to iPad but that wouldn't be a good user experience. They have different design philosophies. I think mac people will always prefer a mac but iPad users enjoy and understand iPad user experience. i think apple is pretty close to smoothing down some uses that are way easier on a mac.
I don’t want my iPad to turn into a Mac, honestly. Only thing that should be improved is the files app. I want more seamless editing. Would be cool if files (stored on iCloud) would sync realtime. But I believe how it works right now is a mess and it sometimes creates duplicate files.
Thanks very much for this. My iPad Pro 12.9 is my go to device even while owning an Alienware laptop for gaming and a new Dell laptop for work. Still, I know I’m only scratching the surface of my IPad. Looking forward to some downtime to listen carefully to this.
Ah nice-one Ali, thanks. Great to see you pop up here. Watching your vids got me started in the TH-cam journey a while back: hi from another London productivity TH-camr! 🤗 ps. If you’re ever open to opening your doors I’d love to come check out your studios one day.
I'm really struggling to find the most suitable ipad for me. Can you please suggest me one? Here are my priority list 1. Low budget (as much as possible) 2. Fast working 3. big screen( because I'll mostly do online classes and take notes) 4. Battery capacity and storage ( again because of long time classes and to keep all notes) 5. Camera ( a plus point but not a priority) Thanks in advance
Maybe a refurbished 12.9 iPad Pro from around 2018/19 - still fast - similar design still - will be OK value due to being older. It’s what I still have!
I always thought of the ipad (since the 3rd gen) as a possible, if not better replacement for laptops. The advancement of IpadOs really makes it closer to reality. Even a non-pro ipad which can really go beyond the student lifestyle necessities.
I have both good notes and notability Notability is by far and away better. Notability has some functions that are better But the ability to change colors and pen sizes are much much better on notability.
Hi, it would be great if you can distinguish between best apps for iPad Pro as opposed to the ones on iPad 9 Gen, for example. Is there any difference apps wise when you move between the Pro and the entry level iPad? Thanks.
As far as I'm aware there is no difference for the apps as they are all created independently and made for iOS. However of course you will get better performance from the pro chips etc. Happy app searching!
No there's no difference, I've had a basic ipad 6 for years now and I use Good Notes 5 with the pencil 1st gen etc. Apparently it's a bit smoother on ipad pro but it works perfectly fine on ipad 6, probably even more so on ipad 9 or even 10 which is coming in a couple of weeks
So recently I acquired a iPad Pro 11. This is my 2nd iPad since the 3rd Gen iPad back in 2012. My impression after a day is that this tablet is way over power for me. I was trying to come up with ideas with apps and games to download, but ended up just installing TH-cam Lmao. No longer a student, not a content creator, nor I play any games any more. This is just a expensive item that I can buy and show off and say “Let me bring my IPad Pro next time.” Honestly I might be more happy with the iPad 10.2 haha
Haha - nice one - love a bit of honesty! So easy to do thou isn’t it? Maybe you should teach your self digital art on procreate as a hobby?! :) thanks for the comment and for watching. 👍
Great! Thanks! I only have a problem with one app and that is Shortform. I already don’t agree w ‘most’ subscription models but the yearly cost is absurd and customer service was a nightmare. It’s a good app so maybe if one doesn’t mind handing over that much money for summaries instead of reading the books and they have money to burn then go for it but beware they customer service is not just bad but obnoxious. Thanks again for the video!
FilmicPro and Lumifusion are great combination for shooting, editing and uploading video all on the same platform. I started doing that on my 1080p iPad3 with iMovie back in 2012 and was blown away by the quality of the video, automatic control of the color balance and even the sound with just the built in mic. Audience response to videos was so much better compared to the still photos I would shoot, painstakingly edit in Photoshop and post on my web site I pretty much stopped using my Canon DSRL gear and my iMac. In 2018 upgraded an iPadPro3 with Lumifusion and FilmicPro. I also bought a GoPro Hero7 Black but found it far more work to transfer and color grade. After upgrading to an iPhoneXr for shooting on the go I shelved the GoPro and conveniently Airdrop files shot on phone to iPad for editing using Airdrop.
It’s interesting to see language evolve. It’s seems quite common now to use the word software in a singular and plural form instead of uncountable. At first it was just non-native English speakers, but now it seems increasingly common to hear “a software” or “softwares” used by native speakers. My guess is because “app” or “application” is a countable noun and has always been that way, people just tend to swap in the uncountable noun “software” without thinking about it and end up using it the same way.
Very astute observation, and I would bet you are correct about the comparison of the word software to the countable nature of apps. As I have moved away from my laptop to nearly exclusively using my iPad, I rarely even come across the word ‘software’ in any context, whether traditionally countable or not.
PDF expert is amazing. It has been one of my core app’s for work. Ticktick is a super todo list and it is very underrated. Ferrite ( i think that i saw that you have that on in your video). Recently bought an ipad 9th gen for CozyBlanket and Procreate. Both are great for 3D artists. I've always been big on Android, but both of these apps are hard to resist

Ah yeah, great desk systems: it’s part of the String Shelving System. I also recommend the Vitsoe system of you have the money! I’ll be sharing a full desk set up video in the new year I expect. :)
I sold my iPad Pro 12.9 6th Gen together with the Pencil today cos I bought a Samsung Tab 9 Ultra when it came out last week. This Tab 9 does more than the iPad & its S pen is way ahead than Apple’s.
If you had a choice between a maxed out iPad pro to use for everything or an iPad air with minimum upgrades and a MacBook air with minimum upgrades, what would you get? I can't seem to justify spending 350 quid on keyboard and even more for additional storage
GoodReader is the best app I have ever used on the iPad Pro. Great for large pdf collections and has all the tools for connectivity and annotation. It should be standard on all iPads.
Not really - there is plenty of that content out there: I can only make so many vids and so my focus for deeper videos is on Notion, systems thinking and building strategies to make life easier, rather than other niche app tutorials. Just jump on the search and you’ll find some gold! :)
Excellent videos...only comment I have experienced Notability works better for taking buisness/students notes (epecially adding pdfs, hand written notes (imported) and recording lectures etc. syncing notes and audio recording of meeting...
Cheers man - I actually also recently discovered your videos too - great stuff ! I’ve been scripting a video on using iPad with desktop software… and just discovered you beat me to it on that! Ha! Let me know if you ever wanna collab on something love your stuff.
I know I’m a million but I really am not sure I can “learn to love” an iPad without a home button or a headphone jack. I miss my 1st gen iPad Pro, wish it still worked.
Thanks - I did the animations in Luma fusion manually with key-framing! Have now moved on to FCP but I did 55 vids in Luma - in the end - Occasionally it couldn’t handle rendering the more complex edits when I got to multi streams of 4K - but was otherwise awesome. Love it.
@@BetterCreating Thanks for the tip! Can’t quite replicate your format but I’ll figure it out. I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for the great content!
Bought an ipad pro 2 solely for GarageBand (was solely a PC user lifelong until then). It sidestepped many music creation issues of a technical nature, and enabled my ‘problems’ to mostly be musical ones! There is a shedload of music apps now, and then there’s Lumafusion of course. Really, Cubasis and GarageBand makes the Pro 2 worth the £700 I spent on their own. It’s the latest one with a 3.5mm socket of course. Surely it will return? A £400 Mac Mini has one, doesn’t it? Thanks.
thanks for sharing - yeah - its totally underrated as a portable recoding studio with the right mic set up. Nice. I'm doubtful they will add the 3.5 jack again thou! :(
Notability is the best app I’ve ever used. It’s sad it’s a subscription now but I’ve literally had people buy iPads after I gave them a demonstration of the app. ProCreate is a close second
Hi I have just downloaded pro art creative draw and paint app but I can’t set up the pencil fit my iPad 12.9 Apple iPad. Please advise on how to set it up. Thankyou.
I use Concept to take note. It’s a drawing app not for note taking. No features like calendar, todo list, syncing or inserting file. but I love its infinity canvas I don’t need to switch document just do everything in one huge canvas. If I need todo I just draw a checkbox beside the text note.
Hi. My name is Christina. I just bought an iPad Pro 11” that I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet! I guess I’m afraid of being overwhelmed…anyway, I am a singer/songwriter and arranger and I’m looking for the best (I honestly haven’t really found anything so far) music notation software for the $ that a poor little church mouse (who just anhililated her budget for the Pro…) can afford. I am great at music and moronic at tech, which is a frustrating combination! I used to have Finale long ago, but Finale while being pricey, doesn’t seem to work with IOS anymore. It’s weird. Back in the day, you used to only be able to run Finale off of Apple devices. Now, good luck finding ANYTHING (besides the one I can’t spell - Sabellias - sigh) for iPad that notates music. Do you have any ideas? It’s one of the main things I still need for my little walk-in recording studio I’m trying to create! I can and do notate by hand but it’s meticulous, tedious work and so many musicians have trouble sight-reading hand notation. Anyway, if you have some ideas, I’d deeply appreciate your input. Thank you. (First time on your site. Helpful)
What app are you using to get the time in the upper left hand corner of your Home Screen that resembles the old today view? I’ve looked for a long time to try to find an alternative, but nothing like that before. What are you using?

I'm a on/offline designer, currently working on windows and with Adobe. But I'm heavily thinking of changing my workflow to an iPad. The mobility and possibilities are great! I have around 9 months left on my adobe sub and is the whole adobe suite ok to work with on a ipad? Eventually I'll try the apps you mentioned. Thnx for the video and I'll be watching more!
I think the adobe suite is reduced on iOS. But I don’t really use the main one so hard to say. However photoshop mix and fix are great with Apple Pencil.

I sold my iPad Pro 12.9 6th Gen together with the Pencil today cos I bought a Samsung Tab 9 Ultra when it came out last week. This Tab 9 does more than the iPad & its S pen is way ahead than Apple’s.
Why you sold you iPad Pro 12.9 6th any problem? And 9 ultra is better? I’m asking you because I want to decide what I want
Just got my first iPad. Just the bigger screen for media makes it worth it for me.
Nice.
If you had a choice between a maxed out iPad pro to use for everything or an iPad air with minimum upgrades and a MacBook air with minimum upgrades, what would you get? I can't seem to justify spending 350 quid on keyboard and even more for additional storage
Hello! Thanks for the good video. It would be really helpful if you could include the links to apps in the description next time.
Thanks! Good call - how did I miss that?! Thanks for the feedback - will add them later :)
im using my ipad for taking a note reading book and watching content and using web browser and other productive stuffs on my ipad
Thank you Simon . I am learning so much from you. God Bless
You are very welcome
My most used apps on my iPad must be Nextcloud Deck and Nextcloud Cookbook. And as a Nextcloud self hoster my note taking app is Nextcloud notes ofc.
I need all of these productivity apps! 💫 #keeprising #risingtobe #aswerise #riser
i got the new ipad pro for my 16th and i’ve only been using it for netflix so far, but maybe with this knowledge i’ll make more use of it
Happy iPad discovering! :)
GoodReader is the best app I have ever used on the iPad Pro. Great for large pdf collections and has all the tools for connectivity and annotation. It should be standard on all iPads.
Please share how you organize your Home Screen so your widgets are all on one side!
I used Widgetsmith widgets and empty spacers they include (I.e. black spacer, black background) 👍
Do you have videos showing more details of how to use these aps. ?
Not really - there is plenty of that content out there: I can only make so many vids and so my focus for deeper videos is on Notion, systems thinking and building strategies to make life easier, rather than other niche app tutorials. Just jump on the search and you’ll find some gold! :)
Thank you for sharing man
Great to have you in the community! :)
Excellent videos...only comment I have experienced Notability works better for taking buisness/students notes (epecially adding pdfs, hand written notes (imported) and recording lectures etc. syncing notes and audio recording of meeting...
Hey man, first video of yours I've seen. Excellent stuff 👌
Cheers man - I actually also recently discovered your videos too - great stuff ! I’ve been scripting a video on using iPad with desktop software… and just discovered you beat me to it on that! Ha! Let me know if you ever wanna collab on something love your stuff.
Thank you for this informative video!

Thanks for watching ! Welcome :)
I bought GoodNotes last year for school, it’s nice not having to buy physical note books books for school every semester
Great stuff!
Brilliant video and voice goals!
Haha! Thanks! :)
Are you running iPadOS 14? I miss the Today view always on the left like that.
Good content mate 👏🏾👏🏾
Much appreciated
I’ve been using liquid text for note taking/highlighting. How does that compare to some of these other apps?
Very cool list of apps!
I know I’m a million but I really am not sure I can “learn to love” an iPad without a home button or a headphone jack. I miss my 1st gen iPad Pro, wish it still worked.
Really impressive that you edit these on the iPad. What do you use for all your animations?
Thanks - I did the animations in Luma fusion manually with key-framing! Have now moved on to FCP but I did 55 vids in Luma - in the end - Occasionally it couldn’t handle rendering the more complex edits when I got to multi streams of 4K - but was otherwise awesome. Love it.
God bless you! Prayer here if wanted!
I'm assuming u have the iPhone as well? I'm looking to switching to iPhone and iPad as well
Yep - I’ve used apple computers since the original Macintosh my dad owned!
Pocket is a good one as well for saving things for later.
Thanks for sharing the suggestion
This is awesome
Thanks my friend! :)
Simon, what about Ms office.? How does MS office works on iPad. And is MS office a paid app on iPad?
Great content. Thanks.
No worries - thanks for watching! :)
What about a review of photo apps for beginners
Yeah nice idea - see my apps for creators video too for this.
I have just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed immediately. I like your enthusiasm and the pace of your videos!
I’ll take that! Thanks for joining the BC Community - great to have you! S
Where can I find the app icons?
How can I get the numerical clock widget on your iPad?!? I prefer that much more than the traditional round clock.
I use the widgetsmith app to do it. :)
@@BetterCreating Thanks for the tip! Can’t quite replicate your format but I’ll figure it out. I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for the great content!
Hi you being very knowledgeable how do I fill in scanned in forms to post on when complete as my hobby could depend on it
You can edit PDFs and images in a note taking app or I believe in the files app using Apple Mark up.
Simon, I definitely suggest the “Paper”app in this list
Thanks for the recommendation - will check it.
Do you use Todoist personally or which task manager app? What about the iOS reminders
I use Notion and my Notion Life OS template to manage my tasks :)
@@BetterCreating yea should’ve guessed that!
Hi I have just downloaded pro art creative draw and paint app but I can’t set up the pencil fit my iPad 12.9 Apple iPad. Please advise on how to set it up.
Thankyou.
I like Notability
Great app too :)
How did you get your apps with no border behind them?
Check out my IPad playlist for my minimal iPad setup video and I show you how :)
I love how you deliver and highlighting all of these apps.
I like Jamboard and Mirro
It’s fab! Cheers
For me absolute winner in terms of creativity Nanostudio 2 for music production...
Oo nice not heard of that. Thanks for sharing.
I use Concept to take note. It’s a drawing app not for note taking. No features like calendar, todo list, syncing or inserting file. but I love its infinity canvas I don’t need to switch document just do everything in one huge canvas. If I need todo I just draw a checkbox beside the text note.
Nice sounds cool :)
Thanks a lot :)
Welcome! :)
Helpful)
What brand of stand you use?
What app are you using to get the time in the upper left hand corner of your Home Screen that resembles the old today view? I’ve looked for a long time to try to find an alternative, but nothing like that before. What are you using?
How do I change up the look of my apps how you have it?

Is Notion worthwhile? It doesn’t look great privacy wise. Is it a good tradeoff?
It’s had a hugely positive impact on my life personally: so personalised and has transformed what I get done / stress levels! - but yes - do your own research and be sure you are happy with the privacy policies etc: so easy these days to just click and go: all comes down to the individual. :)
10 seconds in.. this better be good
It will be ok - it’s just an iPad video 😅
Great stuff, thank you!
My pleasure!
I am looking for Ola tv app like app for my IPad!Have never found!
I highly recommend the affinity apps like photo and designer...its closer the pc photoshop and illustrator and its one time pay
Hello thank you for the video. Where can I purchase the stand you have the iPad Pro on?
This it’s the magflott stand? Watch this video - link in its description: The Perfect iPad Stand For Your Desk Setup? Meet The iPad Pro Display XDR!

I love my iPad so much I barely touch my computer which is also a Mac
great tutorial. question ? the apple wallet icon is missing on my home screen. How do I get it to showup on my ipadpro 11 home screen?
Thanks! Go to the App Library and drag and drop back to the home screen :)
@@BetterCreating the apple wallet app does not show up in the apps library. Could I down load it for free??
非常感谢。
Love the video and your app suggestions but please: SLOW DOWN! I would rather the video be 10-15 minutes and be able to see and digest these suggestions than the marathon pace. Just a suggestion.
Thanks for the feedback! Always a tricky balance this - but I agree - I could definitely have given this video a bit more space and breathing room! Cheers. ✅
@@BetterCreating I apologize that my comment sounded so frank! I meant to include a couple of smiley faces and thumbs ups because I do appreciate that you put a lot of work in the video and my inability to keep up is on me, not on you. 👍😊 Thanks again for the hard work! Loved the information. 👍😊
Could also just set playback speed lower or watch it twice.
Good notes is a real game changer
couldn't agree more!
