Fascinating how India is still teaching and keeping alive the classic British poetry that the British themselves have abandoned--poetry like this and that of Kipling.
Yeah India does it so that this socially glorified unquestioning obedience can be beaten into Indians right form their childhood and therefore they can be set up for their lifelong indoctrination that comes next. It is due to this early developed habit of foolishly admiring everything that is written by a famous person why most Indians later go to public universities and become Marxist. It's due to this obedience that indians are so easily influenced by authority and power and celebrities and prevalent ideologies. No wonder why we suck up to the system and don't have any individuality of our own. I mean, I have always thought how that boy could have saved himself, if he was actually brave to respond to his conscience rather than waiting for his father's order to be validated as a "good boy"!
This existed in our syllabus for the reason that this type of unquestioning obedience can be beaten into Indians right form their childhood and therefore they can be set up for their lifelong indoctrination that comes next. This is a very nice story . I have read this many times. We should be honest and obedient. The battle of the nile was an extraordinary war and took many lives
My most Favourite Poem, read that in my 6th Grade
Yeah back in those days it used to give a lot of strength but it doesn't age well against intelligent and cunning moves of the world.
