Love your tubers. As a senior citizen, it would be a big help if you would show an itemized cost list for each rebuild. This would help fixed incomer’s a lot to know ahead of starting our own conversion project. Thx
I've just realised you haven't got a spark connector on the battery pack. I've never had one of them kits before. So I don't know if display drain power from controller & battery when turned off. I always fix that problem on all my e-bikes before starting to build the Ebike. Even then I still use spark connector.
There is room for a bigger capacity battery on that frame. I am also understanding what you mean about quality rim brakes and bad quality disc brakes. Had to buy new mechanical brakes that came with a new bike with different mechanical brakes recently because it was impossible to find the same brake pads for the ones that came with the bike. What is the minimum Ah needed for BBSHD and 02? Anything as long as the BMS board and cells can do 30A?
Most of my rides have been 15-20 miles on this bike and I normally don't use the battery assist much, maybe 3 out of 9 on the power settings, so I haven't had trouble running out of battery charge before getting home. I mainly need the assist getting up a 10 percent grade in the last mile to my house. I've been happy with the bike and working with John on it.
What do you think about internal gear hubs with these builds? I’ve got a bike with no mounts for a rear derailleur I was thinking about converting but would have to fit an internal gearing hub. It’s a specialised cross trail so a good frame and components but not sure whether to get something else with external gearing.
Ah interesting, I converted my own crosstrail after finding your videos. Only a 750w on mine though. You didn’t mention that you needed to cut the cable hangers off the bottom bracket to fit the motor? I had to so had to put a sheathed cable on.
I have this bike and I'm in the process of converting it to a bike packing/ trekking bike. How do feel about LiFePO4 batteries? I know the are considerably heavier, but for this build I'm not to worried about saving weigjt.
My Scott racing bike hybrid Had some of the best v-brakes you can buy. The bike was brand new. Brakes hardly used I bought the cheapest hydraulic brakes I could find on eBay. And they are 20 times better than the V brakes. Stopping power much better. When you doing more than 40 mph the v-brakes have no effect.
38's are hardly thin tires. Until recently they weren't even allowed in cyclocross because they are too wide. Have crossed Illinois on an unimproved tow path riding 23's, would not recommend anything wider than 38's for rail trails, hard pack or most campgrounds. Anything larger is going to eat batteries.
Ride to camp, drop your supplies and go trail riding? 🤯 ..now I want another bike! Nice work, love your humor knowledge and conciseity!
I have an older Crosstrail and I've been watching your videos to learn how to do it 😃
Same here. mine is a 2017 model

Super clean build.
Just what i wanted to see!!! I own this bike =D(not elite). Not quite sure the exact sized motor I needed. Hoping Ill find it here

How is the performance of the Saddle Battery? How much distance with one charge ?

Check out my video on that topic 👍😀
@JohnnyNerdOut How would you get an old school vintage bmx mag wheel to hold 7 speed sprocket and disc breaks?

Such a mountain biker calling 38s narrow. 😂
Ya I guess it’s all relative 😀
Is the battery removeable?
Still in Utah?
