Most games have a one to two hour OST/soundtrack. Starbound, an indie game, has six. In my opinion, that is one of the most impressive things about this game.
I remember when my sister first gifted me with this game when it was still in its beta version, I remember spending hours playing it, I remember hating the storyline when the full version finally came out, I remember putting it down for several years before picking it back up, I remember thinking how naive I was when I was younger and falling in love with the story and new gameplay and everything you could do. I remember being baffled by how much content the game provides, and wondering why it's still so obscure for being such a great game. I remember every single time I booted up the game, I would be perfectly content with just listening to the opening music, in awe with how the music could just make you feel like you're floating through nothing. How after hours of playing, the soundtrack would always be playing in the back of my head, providing a soundtrack to my life. I remember loving everything new that came my way after I completed a new mission, or made a new crewmate after a quest. I remember discovering so many new things I didn't know were possible before. I remember discovering how to finally reach other planets. I remember the Forsaken Grotto playing for the first time the first time I travelled to a new planet, and finding my first Avian ship, my own race. I remember falling in love with the soundtrack. I remember being frustrated everytime I died to some stupid enemy because I would freak out. And I remember when I finally grew the courage to face them head on (only to die by falling off a cliff). I remember the moment when I realized how diverse the worlds are, and how diverse our own world is. I remember flying through space to the sound of adventure, and I will never forget being Starbound.
After listening to the soundtrack, I am surprised by how good it is, because I didn't really notice while I was playing the game. Maybe because I was too busy trying to stay alive on hardcore mode...
Henry Stevens I just started playing and I gotta say... This game is BEYOND AWESOME kinda wish there's an ingame crafting blueprint for a diary/journal to go with my self-made lore :( oh well I'll just use notepad and hope that in the future update they'll add it
23:00 is just absolutely magical. I remember first playing the game when this one came on - it was surreal to explore the world with it in the background. Incredible work.
Starbound provides you the feeling of an adventure all by your own; discovering knew things and fighting off dangerous creatures. But most importantly, their fantastic OST that helps you with the visualization. I'm not a gamer, but honestly my experience with Starbound has always been great.
Ultramarine at 3:59:00 hits me so fkn deep. Heard it for the first time when I was settling on a lava planet, but something about the bassline and melody strikes all the right things... In a sort of nice and sad way. Amazing game, amazing OST, amazing devs.
*M54* 3:38:06 This played when I left my first planet, on my first character, all the way back in the beta. After spending hours and hours and hours on it, I had mined most of the resources and looted almost all the chests, discovered all the biomes and everything. I put all the storage in my ship and mined up my house leaving a big flat grass-less patch of dirt. While I did all this is when the theme started, and it was the first time I saw the luminous rain weather event. All that combined together with me leaving the only planet I had been on so far, actually made me cry. I logged in on starbound before writing this comment and went back to the planet which was luckily still in my bookmarks, and when I got back, the patch of dirt where my house was had grass that fit in with the rest of the surface on my screen. God I wish the devs didn't turn this game into a forced RPG
god stop making me feel things inside, i really really like m54 as well, it reminds me of Aei Basin III-b or whatever it was called, my first ever starbound home planet
How? How is this music so good? Starbound is the only music I get chills from. M54 and On the beach at night are the two best songs I have ever heard, and yet so simple. Starbound will always have a special place in my heart.
Without a doubt, one of the best soundtracks ever composed. Ever. I remember the first time I played this game, the first time I launched it, I just sat in the main menu and listened to the whole theme. It had me spellbound from the very first chord, and through all the rest too!
Although Starbound has several flaws, one thing it always had since beta, was the absolute feeling of being... in space, exploring. Peace, contemplation, vastness and solemnity of the Universe. It's hard to describe it but it felt very real. The OST plays a huge part, I'm sure. I still believe that this game is one of the best in terms of atmosphere. The ost when a new day begins on a planet fills you with hope and serenity. You feel at home and at the same time part of something incredibly vaster.
Nomads ( 2:17:27 ) is without a doubt my favorite track. I only started playing recently, have yet to finish my first playthrough. This track always plays on the planet with my farm, and on most of the scorched planets I visit which is asthetically my favorite biome. Listening to this song makes me feel like im the last person on the last planet, just carrying out whatever work I need to do to live a little longer. Like the opposite of foreboding, something terrible of immense scale has already happened and you are stuck in that new reality trying to make the most of it. Which is pretty accurate to what you are actually dealing with I suppose.
This music puts me in an otherworldly kind of peace. It's like it's saying to me, "It's going to be okay." In other words: It's incredibly relaxing and beautiful. Thank you for uploading this so I can enjoy this game's soundtrack in full.
the first time you arrive at the outpost and realiz your not completely alone out there in the universe after the whole intro part it's just touching and this song it's like the cherry on top of it
Starbound was my first game I bought on Steam after I registered. It's in a top 3 of my favorite games of all time for it's absolutely magical music and it's unmatched atmosphere. I can basically see myself walking around at the morning, enjoying the view of giant flower-trees while Stellar Formation is playing in the background, or hunting at night with a bow while Cygnus X is playing.
I just love Starbounds' OST, probably one of my favourite parts. Its just really atmospheric! It's also really good to listen to when revising for an exam or test since it's so relaxing.
I wanna have this playing in the background while watching northern lights in the sky sitting next to the person I love and holding their hand not saying a single word.... Just fully embracing the moment... man I really just teared up a bit writing this and picturing it in my head while the song plays.....
Large Magellanic Cloud is by far my favorite track, emphasizing the loneliness, hope, and low level anxiety about being thrust into the unknown on your own. It's a big universe out there, and you won't always have the familiar sense you once did in your own little corner of it.
The Starbound soundtrack is, to put it simply, absolutely phenomenal. First off, it's over 6 and a half hours, which is crazy, but it's also so dang beautiful. It's not the same as, say, Terraria's soundtrack in its purpose per se, but it's so nice to listen to and it just has this indescribable feel to it. My favorites are "On the Beach at Night" and "Blue Straggler", and it and most of the other songs in this OST are orchestral and beautiful and really convey the meaning of space. The soundtrack really immerses you in space and other planets and does it in a way no other game can. I'm willing to say that this OST, sorry but now's the negative part, is the only good part of the game ever since they started updating the game and pretty much revamping it every time. You can do so many things that are useless because of the world and character wipes, and it really just makes the game unenjoyable whenever they ruin your progress on something, add a new game mechanic that you didn't like, or just changed something about the game that makes it not fun anymore. Fun game to play through once, but not very fun after all the updates and such. Great OST though!
Something very tranquil about 1:42:30. (Mira) One of my favs. I remember hearing it on snowy cold planets with various colours in the sky projected from the Aurora. Pretty.
I totally agree with you and everything but we can't just FORGET about Tentacle Exploration 1, now can we? If I'm being honest Blue Straggler is also pretty great
I had a dream along the same lines except instead of it destroying Earth it took over bodies like a Zombie apocalypse. I was an Avian shooting down tentacle monster people. It was awesome.
i remember scrolling through forum page after forum page of people just discussing the mushroom people and wanting the game for myself so damn badly. years later, after over 100+ hours in starbound, i can say for sure that this game has a deep and special place in my heart, even after all the updates and changes.
I’m not kidding when I say that the Title theme brought me to tears when I heard it for the first time. I was so emotional just from the title. I knew this was going to be an incredible game if the title was this good.
One of the greatest sandboxes ever. I see people commenting on nothing to do in the world, but the building and resource gathering can be so much fun if you have proper imagination given to it.
about 4 years ago I was pretty young but I still understood how a laptop worked so I got steam and my dad gave me a $20 steam gift card and I stayed up every night until I finally got to the end of starbound and then I got factorio and that's when i was like o god what happened to my beautiful space ost. thanku bro for uploading this
Over 400 hours on this game and I still come back to it to put in another 20. I wouldn't if this music wasn't the same. Starbound will remain my favorite for at least the next 20 years and that I can say is a fact.
Im so glad Curtis is doing the music for Halo Infinite. Both Starbound and Halo have a very special place in my heart and both have had a phenominal soundtrack I already know halo infinites music will be the best there ever has been, i can feel it
I have no nostalgia associated with this game like many others out there, but this music is amazing on it's own. Every theme is so beautifully arranged that some pieces in this OST make me want to cry from how good and emotional they sound. It's truly an incredible work of art and I just can't get enough of it. Large Magellanic Cloud and M54 make me feel very strong emotions that I can't even describe. I love this
God, i remember. I remember playing befpre the story, trying to piece together what it ment. Roleplaying with my friends. Ive made a super secret water base complete with everything, ive made a base on the edge of the galaxy. All completely with random friends ive made along the way. The server i played on is dead now, so i dont think il ever meet them again as my mature self and thank them. But hell, they will be in my heart. And thats quite a impressive feat. Especially for just being my friend on a 2d game like this. But its kinda so much more to me. I just wanna go back, for the love of god i wanna go back. I remember making my character name, blake . But their was one space after the name so people inviting me to their group had to put one space. It was kinda funny explaining it. But i will never have random friends like i did on starbound. And im super antisocial now, so i doubt ever. But hey, if i take my adhd meds and full send yolo it and dive in, it could work. To all yall who has experinced the same thing, my steam is chaos insurgency with a picture of zero two. Feel free to friend me! Ive been wanting to do a playthrough with someone!
I guess they were just salty that the music was better than the game itself which led to them just disliking the music too which is completely idiotic to me.
When I think about this game it never seems so great or impressive, but then I play, and see the insanely good art, the environments, the smallest of details, the music, it's all so amazing.
When I think about this game, it always seems so great and fun, but then I play and Im instantly bored. The good art, the environments, the smallest of details, the music, its all so good, but I cant stop feeling bored.
I've only recently got this game and I am loving it so much. I have been grinding through every series I can find as well as playing the game as much as I can, its amazing. I never really stopped and just listened to the music before and now this is my chance to really absorb it all in :D
@@pastramikirby6165 I am still loving it. My only gripe is that it does seem to have some lag type of issues and according to the mod community it's a severe lack of optimization and Chucklefish leaving the project 'finished' to work on other stuff.
i don't know how to describe the feelings this soundtrack evokes within me, but to try my best: it's one of both cosmic loneliness and that of home. they mix somehow, magically...
been like 5 years of hundred hours each years. new race playtrough, new ship from scratch, getting lost in this magical and melancolic universe , loving the beauty of each pixel. starbound is more than a game.
This game's soundtrack really did a great job. Knowing what the game is about, the music is very fitting and it actually makes me long to be able to travel amongst the stars
Never played the game, hoping to one day tho. This soundtrack is amazing. 1:47:00 “Mira” is my music of choice when contemplating death and instilling deep gratitude and contentment for this world I inhabit for a brief moment.
My shift lasts just as long as this soundtrack. At the end of it I know it's time to pack up. I love this game and I still haven't finished my project yet....
i'll leave this comment so that i can remember which of these songs i liked the most. Europa - 1:11:12 Mira - 1:42:30 Blue Straggler - 2:11:44 Tranquility Base - 2:32:33 Gravitational Collapse - 3:21:40
I'm just now coming back to the game, its even better than I left it, even if I was like 8 and had no clue what the hell I was doing, it was so much fun, and its even better now
Most people hate on how this game dosent compare to games like terraria etc and I seen so many videos saying why it’s bad or not as good as it could be but I still really like the game and think it’s really good but I do wish there was a little more to be able to do before the end of the game
I remember playing this game in its beta. When I first set down on a planet and Vast, Immortal Suns started playing. As I listened while running my Avian through the hills and paths I could just tell this game was going to be something special. I've not played since the really major, game-changing updates...downloading it now on Steam.....Wish me luck!
I've never played Starbound, but man...this soundtrack hits on a different level. SO excited to see what this awesome composer can do for Halo Infinite!...
My experience finding my own race, as an hylotl, consisted of not knowing one could build equipment to breath underwater and thus having to emerge back and forth to find a city. So just picture a dumb hylotl bumping her fists at the glass of an underwater city so someone can please let her in.
Starbound has a special place in my heart.

Back in 2016 back then a night in summer i discovered this game!
Starbound it's my heart
Most games have a one to two hour OST/soundtrack. Starbound, an indie game, has six.
In my opinion, that is one of the most impressive things about this game.
Don't forget though each song is about 5-8 minutes long so it may seem longer.
Josh it is still longer than most soundtracks made by large companies.
And I though Undertale had a long soundtrack
I was so wrong
its closer to seven
Games like this and terraria have so much content for their price tag, definitely one of the best purchases i ever made
I remember when my sister first gifted me with this game when it was still in its beta version, I remember spending hours playing it, I remember hating the storyline when the full version finally came out, I remember putting it down for several years before picking it back up, I remember thinking how naive I was when I was younger and falling in love with the story and new gameplay and everything you could do. I greatly appreciate your post. That was profoundly insightful and relatable.
There is no way anyone could have said that better, even if they were a beta tester like you.
After listening to the soundtrack, I am surprised by how good it is, because I didn't really notice while I was playing the game. Maybe because I was too busy trying to stay alive on hardcore mode...
let`s organise a clan of Protectors guys
I remember when I first read your comment, it was just 3 seconds ago.
One of the few games I don't dare to mute and play a podcast over
it's illegal
Say what you want about the game, but I love just being able to build and travel across the stars with this music. It's so therapeutic to me.
Starbound is just something, I'm so glad that I found it once.
hearing this again... it reminded me when i started playing. i invented whole stories about each planet. my imagination went rampant.
Henry Stevens I just started playing and I gotta say... This game is BEYOND AWESOME

Dip A Nutella If I'm not wrong, you can write books in the game.
Well you happen to be wrong there. There's a mod on the workshop called "Aetheric Book Creator" that allows you to make books, however.

A solid #2 for me. Europa takes first for me.
I totally agree with you and everything but we can't just FORGET about Tentacle Exploration 1, now can we?
If I'm being honest Blue Straggler is also pretty great
I have been looking for this.
For 2 hours.
thank you so much ive been looking for that song for months
Never gets old... the quality and amount is mindblowing for a game like that.
Last night I had a nightmare that the ruin was destroying the Earth. I may play too much Starbound.
Yeah!
steam?
I had a dream along the same lines except instead of it destroying Earth it took over bodies like a Zombie apocalypse.
I was an Avian shooting down tentacle monster people.
It was awesome.
Radiriz, The Sole Survivor... I may want to make your nightmare a mod, once I learn programming (which is, probably, never xD)
I think Starbound uses LUA, I think it's easy to learn, too.
i remember scrolling through forum page after forum page of people just discussing the mushroom people and wanting the game for myself so damn badly. years later, after over 100+ hours in starbound, i can say for sure that this game has a deep and special place in my heart, even after all the updates and changes.
I really love this game, I played it a lot with my friends and we had so much fun
The ost is amazing too, really makes me enjoy the game more
+++++++++
I’m not kidding when I say that the Title theme brought me to tears when I heard it for the first time. I was so emotional just from the title. I knew this was going to be an incredible game if the title was this good.
NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD!!!!!!!!!
Nostalgia does not apply for games less than a few years old....
I disagree. Some music just has an initial nostalgic feel. Even when listening for the first time.
@@bbrtki i disagree. it's real.
@@bbrtki time flies,man, time flies..
Just came here to say this is one of the most beautiful soundtracks in video game history. Cheers!
Im so glad Curtis is doing the music for Halo Infinite. Both Starbound and Halo have a very special place in my heart and both have had a phenominal soundtrack
I already know halo infinites music will be the best there ever has been, i can feel it
I have no nostalgia associated with this game like many others out there, but this music is amazing on it's own. Every theme is so beautifully arranged that some pieces in this OST make me want to cry from how good and emotional they sound. It's truly an incredible work of art and I just can't get enough of it. Large Magellanic Cloud and M54 make me feel very strong emotions that I can't even describe. I love this
It really shows how much you've played a game when you skip through a seven hour soundtrack and recognize everything
I played in alpha when copper armour was a thing lmao
How the hell can you dislike that ?
HELLESHIN!!!!!!!!!!
12 DISLIKES
They just weren't ready for the amazement, so they lost their ability to think clearly, and ended up clicking dislike instead of like. Easy.
Logic-less argument that makes sense
_Snaps his own neck_
I guess they were just salty that the music was better than the game itself which led to them just disliking the music too which is completely idiotic to me.
The game is quite good in my opinion! And the music is part of the game itself. I do not think we can compare the both, they are very nice together :)
When I think about this game it never seems so great or impressive, but then I play, and see the insanely good art, the environments, the smallest of details, the music, it's all so amazing.
When I think about this game, it always seems so great and fun, but then I play and Im instantly bored. The good art, the environments, the smallest of details, the music, its all so good, but I cant stop feeling bored.
reading the love comments beacouse im happy to see people like me loving ths soundtrack
I've only recently got this game and I am loving it so much. I have been grinding through every series I can find as well as playing the game as much as I can, its amazing. I never really stopped and just listened to the music before and now this is my chance to really absorb it all in :D
It's a great game. Hope u enjoy it
@@pastramikirby6165 I am still loving it. My only gripe is that it does seem to have some lag type of issues and according to the mod community it's a severe lack of optimization and Chucklefish leaving the project 'finished' to work on other stuff.
So, the guy who made the music for this game is now making some of the music for halo infinite. Hell yeah
i don't know how to describe the feelings this soundtrack evokes within me, but to try my best: it's one of both cosmic loneliness and that of home. they mix somehow, magically...
This OST slaps...I love this game
fk yes!
2:32:32 Is my fav! I love it, it's very emotional
been like 5 years of hundred hours each years. new race playtrough, new ship from scratch, getting lost in this magical and melancolic universe , loving the beauty of each pixel. starbound is more than a game.
This game's soundtrack really did a great job. Knowing what the game is about, the music is very fitting and it actually makes me long to be able to travel amongst the stars
I think I've spent more time listening to the OST than playing starbound at this point, like it evokes such intense nostalgia
THIS music!
This could be the greatest music of ANY indie game out there
Never played the game, hoping to one day tho. This soundtrack is amazing. 1:47:00 “Mira” is my music of choice when contemplating death and instilling deep gratitude and contentment for this world I inhabit for a brief moment.
finally finished listening to this ENTIRE video.
My shift lasts just as long as this soundtrack.
At the end of it I know it's time to pack up.
I love this game and I still haven't finished my project yet....
Have you finished ur project?
Have you finished it *Now*?
How about now?
And now?
what about now?
I had a blast with this game, and have enjoyed the soundtrack ever since
i cried listening to the 2nd song...
thank you for the reupload!
interesting seeing you here

2:47:00
Gracias bro por subir esto es relajante
I'm just now coming back to the game, its even better than I left it, even if I was like 8 and had no clue what the hell I was doing, it was so much fun, and its even better now
4:58:25
that's... that's the Ruins theme, that plays as you dig towards the core
I must admit, I am really happy you uploaded this, thanks :)
I've not played since the really major, game-changing updates...downloading it now on Steam.....Wish me luck!
the first track makes me tear up, it touches your soul if you just sit and embrace the beauty of the soundtrack
I've never played Starbound, but man...this soundtrack hits on a different level. SO excited to see what this awesome composer can do for Halo Infinite!...
Fix that, right now.
Go buy Starbound and give it a try!
My experience finding my own race, as an hylotl, consisted of not knowing one could build equipment to breath underwater and thus having to emerge back and forth to find a city. So just picture a dumb hylotl bumping her fists at the glass of an underwater city so someone can please let her in.
Forest Battle 2 (alternative) is one of the best boss themes in the history of video games! It's so fitting! And Epic!!!
Forsaken Grotto is my favorite
The music from this game is so good
This is one of those soundtracks where you can just listen to on a headset, close your eyes, and relax.
Phbt I'm not crying at the beauty of this music. You are
10:53 I cry everytime
By far one of the best game soundtrack in the history of video games.
23:00 makes me crie every single time that i listen to this song. it's freaking awesome!
i sure do love crieying too
Perfect music for studying and programming. I'm in love with it. ^^
