Remember back in about 1976 I was doing my first water pump on my Chevy van. Went to parts store put two different pumps on both leaked? Brought the second one back and the guy said , do you want a new one now instead of rebuilt? Yes and never bought rebuilt afterwards 👍
@michaelnomura5196 One channel on here had it with Matco. His previous dealer was a no show giving excuses. He had a sign saying his Matco dealer sucked balls. That stopped when his current dealer has been in,dependable
Man I love my fan clutch tool for my air hammer. I love all the various adapters for the air hammer. I have one for just about everything. I even have one that for putting on condoms but you have to be kind of careful with that one. Tip-Look at the fan blades to determine thread direction. Pressure will always tighten the fan on the shaft.
It's the little details that can make or break a job, like that thermostat housing bolt. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Great video as always Kenny!
It would be great if a manufacturer would supply new bolts with the thermostat housing because it seems like it would be wise to replace them with a thermostat change.
I have a 2002 3.7L Ram and have not had to replace the water pump but have wondered how the fan would come off if it needed replacement. Now I know! Thanks.
Love that O ring seal no need for RTV but i bet some but head out there will use it any way and way too much to. On that thermostat bolt some times a few taps on the head with a hammer helps (sometimes)
12:00save a couple of easy to reach screws just threaded in so you brake it free and have in under control so it do not fall and damage something but i think you already know this already ;)
@@goodcitizen64 I can still get them, though often enough by the time you look at the cost it was easier to buy a new one. Especially modern ones, where they practically glue them together, and use a sealer on all surfaces, so you need to either cook them to release the sealer, or have special tools to get enough torque on the fasteners.
I think I paid like 50 bucks for my spanner tool ( I think the brand is ADT) looks just like your Mac set. I'm just a guy with a few ( adult now) kids who seem to need things fixed. Did the rack n pinion on my daughter's 08 Dodge Dakota last week.
Nice! I think the last literal Dodge waterpump I did was a '73 Coronet 318 back in around '94 or so haha! I had to do it twice as even back then an aftermarket part could be bad right out of the box, in my case the pump had a small hole in the pump's outer casting!😑😅
Good experience with the plastic coolant drain bolt... I did a thermostat on a Mazda 3 and after opening it instead of disconnecting the lower radiator hose, boom! Minor leaking from it after the job was done... Time to get a new o-ring😢
I feel you Kenny. I had a similar incident with a Snap-on dealer several years ago. The guy made it seem as if he thought that he was doing me a favor taking my money.
How many miles on the truck? Here in the no rust belt, the original 3.7 and 4.7 water pumps last 200,000 to 220,000. Aftermarket not so much, more like 40,000 to 50,000, but at least it's an easy one to change. I usually have success tapping the fan wrench with a small hammer to break it loose, never had to use a spanner on one. Good tutorial on how to change one.
Couldn't get the fan off of my '00 Grand Cherokee 4.7. However, the only thing that was leaking was the gasket. Was able to slip a gasket in and successfully seal it up.
I’m hoping you do the longer productions, I like them better, but if the market dictates blipvert type shows , good luck-everyone has to earn a living. 1 minute = 10 minutes editing per show. Thanks Kenny.
I had a 97 S-10 with 2.2. Water pump started leaking out the steam hole. Took it to my dealer had it changed. They replaced it, took it for a drive. The pulley came off, the pulley went rolling somewhere in the dark. I had to drive back to the dealer. The Service manager, why didn't you find the pulley, I had no Idea where it went. Lucky it didn't take out the radiator.
i didn't even hear any timing chain noise when it first started you may have a good one. those motors are strange either around 100,00 timing chain or rocker arms give trouble or they last forever never understood that i know some serviced good and gave trouble some that weren't serviced good that didn't give trouble
Had the same problem with snap off. Have thousands of dollars invested in snap-on tools and could not get an operator to show up, moved than had a new driver that shows up every week. Bought a lot of Matco tools during the 10 year's or so. Also have not seen a Mac truck since the 90's.
Mac is horrible as far as serving customers, or even having route. Nobody wants to work for them for reasons you've stated, and others. Snapon makes an awesome air hammer attachment for fan clutches. Great show sir.
Completely right Kenny. MAC tools are crap. I gave up on them in the 80s. Never walked back on another MAC tool truck ever. Even had to tell the MAC man to F--k off because he kept telling me how good his tools was. Then I said your warranty sucks and walked away.
Id be scared to touch that cooling system burp bolt... Will use the no spill funnel instead and just cycle it 3 x to make sure the air bubbles are out of the system that way

That's awesome of the shop owner to have their employees access to the lifts during off hours 😊
I appreciate your disdain of Mac Tools as I know that you are a man of principal. Way to go little brother!
Could be great tools and bad customer service? Who knows?

Nice DIY tutorial on how to replace a MOPAR water pump. Love it. 👍

All the tips and detail make for an enjoyable experience, some might seem trivial but adds to the drama.
Straight forward water pump, nice job, thanks for the little tips along the way.
Nice work thanks for the tips
Cheers from Nova Scotia
Thanks for watching! 🔧
Historically experienced information is priceless. We all can learn from you. 😊

Love your videos I just a shade tree but l learn a lot from your videos thanks
I rebuilt pumps in the sixties. Can't even find kits to rebuild now.
I used to rebuild alternators and starters as well but haven't been able to get them for decades!

Smart man. He can feel that the bolt is going to break on the t-stat . Screw it. Not gonna do it.
Thank You for the video. Lots of helpful info!!

I have had good luck with Petro-Gel or Dow Corning (now MolyKote) 111 on orings as a lubricant, and to hold them in place. They are designed for an O
Great job Kenny thanks for explaining it all👍
Looking Good.

Do you have issues getting the oil fill off on that 4.7? I do on my '00 Grand Cherokee. Any tips besides a channel lock?

The belt routing you can take a picture with your Phone most Cell phones today can take a picture.

I had 3 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi, I always asked myself why a clutch fan? Ram should have just installed 2 decent size electric fans.

Remember Vulcan tools?
I have a bunch to go with my Mac tools
I never tighten those fan clutches back on, I let the engine do that. I've done a bunch of those with no issues not tightening them down.
Antisieze

MoPar = More Parts
No joking.
I myself always like to disconnect the battery
Viscous coupled Fan...?... seriously how old is this van..?....Electric fan surely...🤔😳😏🇬🇧
Early to mid 2000s truck... I thought it was about that minivan at first
If it works, shrugs.
But whoa about the plastic thermostat housing 😢
Lots of them have both, a viscous fan drive and an electric aux fan
nearly 70%of the parts for my car are only in remanufactured condition or auto-zone quality. the dealer barely makes any for my truck anymore
Id be scared to touch that cooling system burp bolt... Will use the no spill funnel instead and just cycle it 3 x to make sure the air bubbles are out of the system that way
Your problem is you have a Dodge
