I also am a retired live sound engineer (end of the 70's til end of the 90's) and first thing i thought when i heard Floor live was, she has a loud voice.;.I remember a comment by a dutch monitor sound guy,who said,that he had some problems (was in Floors old band "after forever")with Floors voice because she has such a loud voice.I did in my day's monitors to,but most of the time you would have problems that singers did not have much volume. Floor is a exceptionel singer/performer because of her ability to adapt to styles of singing.Listen to her doing ; "yours is a empty hope" on Nightwish and Floor doing "shallow" in a tv show "Beste zangers" ,these are 2 opposittes and shows her mastery.

It was last year in San Francisco. Small Venue: The Warfield. I was center stage maybe 10 rows back. I still remember hearing Floors voice clearly coming from her mouth, not any of the speakers set up. I was stunned.
I love the part when Marco sings ”wake up, dead boy” he points at Emppu and he pretends to be offended and proceeds to try to stab him with the guitar head :D Theyre such a fun and interactive group its always a joy to watch them play!

Nightwish are such an authentic band, with no egos to get in the way of the band dynamic. You can see how much they enjoy playing and that comes across to the audience. I’ve had the great privilege of seeing them live and it was one of the great joys of my life.

This was a good concert. I was introduced to NW with the Wacken 2013 concert. The introduction of Floor to the European fans. Dark Chest Of Wonders, the best opening song ever, and 15 total songs of perfection, so Last Ride Of The Day(2013) will always stick with me as being the BEST closing song. MOR was really good. W 2013 was great.

I am so enjoying your journey down the Nightwish rabbithole. Love the enthusiasm and joy you take, and your knowledge of what is going on instrumentally. Floor is amazing, there can be no doubt of that. I noticed that you appreciated the bass player and second singer, also. That is Marko Hietala, often known as the Father of Metal in Finland. He is, sadly, no longer with the band, but he gave us 20 years of excellence to enjoy. Marko has had a long and distinguished career before, during and after Nightwish, including heading his own band "Tarot" and now out on a solo career. You will find, as you continue on your journey, that he is lead singer on some songs, notably their excellent tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes", "Kiss while your Lips are Still Red", "The Islander" and my favorite, "Endlessness." I can't wait until your next reaction to this band of true professionals, and craftspeople.

I will preface this by saying, at this point, I'm a Nightwish fan boy. I can't think of a bad Nightwish song, but this is among my favorites, I love the lyrics. The instrumentals are amazing. What a fantastic way to close the show. Every member is world class.

Floor is so incredible, obviously with her voice but also with her stage presence and command of the crowd. Keep these Nightwish live reactions coming. Since you noticed how good Marko Hietala (bassist) is with his own voice, I think you would enjoy reacting to him singing lead vocals on the Nightwish cover / tribute to Pink Floyd's High Hopes. Great reaction man! Nightwish is not your average cookie cutter band no two songs are fully the same. The only thing you may notice is the backing Orchestra music is always there or the Synth but that's because it's Symphonic metal the original singer Tarja was strictly Classical/Opera the second singer Anette sings more Pop but Floor sings in any Genre she likes. They use a real Orchestra from Places like London England and Tuomas the keyboard player arranges the music and writes 90 percent. Marko the bass player has left sadly and has done some lead vocals but is usually backing or supporting vocals and Troy who you'll see more on some of there best songs is a multi instrumentalist and also is backing vocals. Floor has been know to prerecord her own vocals as backup as well as you could imagine in a live setting you cannot sing two different vocals at once. A fun version of this song for a fellow Canadian 🇨🇦. Late September 2012 - Floor was asked to join Nightwish mid-tour in the US, after they fired their 2nd singer. She learned the entire setlist in 48 hours, while flying from Holland, pulled off the entire concert in Seattle, then saved the tour and possibly the band. In the final show of the tour, at the end of the final song, the supporting band crashes the stage - you will see the canadian connection I'm referring to!

Yes, the lineup has changed quite a bit over time (27 years and counting). Only Tuomas the keyboardist and Emppu the lead guitarist are originals. But that doesn’t really matter. Nightwish is as much a concept, even a state-of-being as anything. The concept of Tuomas Holopainen. As long as he’s at the helm, Nightwish will ALWAYS be Nightwish!
You should definitely watch these all these videos with this singer to know what she is.

A suggestion for a fellow western Canadian 🇨🇦.... have you ever heard of Devin Townsend? Possibly one of the most talented Canadian artists of all time that almost no Canadians have even heard of. I grew up literally 15 kms away from him in the Vancouver area, as a huge rock/metal fan, yet didn't know he existed.... I suggest you try either Dead Head, Royal Albert Hall or Kingdom, EMGtv. So much more, but a couple of good entry performances.

The 2nd singer is bassist Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, songwriter and incredible vocalist both solo and in harmony. He sang w all 3 ladies, but could really belt w Floor and not overwhelm her!

I recognized the fast guitar solo melody Empuu played expertly on the guitar, but I think it may have been played on a keyboard.

The keyboard player (Tuomas) is the mastermind behind all that happens on stage. Nightwish also produces much of the best of their concert and documentary videos with multiple cameras and their own director and crew.
The keyboard player does have something up his no sleeves. He's smiling because he wrote 99% of the music and lyrics that you are hearing when you listen to NW. Metal Mozart is what the NW fans call him. And Floor is now his perfect muse. Sadly Marco the bassist left the band in 2021 due to personal reasons. He's a lead singer as well and fortunately is now back to playing music again and seems much happier. He released his first solo album in 2020, there are some official videos available. Great reaction, however I can’t understand why you’ve picked this song? It’s a great song but I think you should follow the list from Gabriel song by song! Each Nightwish song follows the other in meaning, like paragraphs in a book! Seriously you’ve hear/seen nothing yet. I’ll subscribe when you start with ‘Story time!

You will fond the 3 singers to be very different. Tarja, the first singer is very operatic and doesn't move much out of that realm. I came into Nightwish recently, so Floor is the singer I know and it took a long while to learn to appreciate Tarja - she is not as dynamic as Floor but what she does do is excellent. As for the second singer...... this is where I upset snowflake pop fans..... Annette was simply a mistake for the band. Way too weak of a voice for metal and a terrible stage presence. Her eventual replacement by Floor was like changing out a chihuahua for a Bernese Mountain dog. And there is an excellent documentary about all of this called Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours - when Annette was fired mid tour in the US, Floor was asked to fly from Holland and take over the tour with 48 hours to prepare. She did, and the rest is history.
