    I have a 95 2 door 2wd that's getting 4wd running gear installed. I have the steel diff and plan on an arb air locker to go in it. I aan definitely going to turn a spacer like you showed.
    Already ordered the lock rite for the rear. Also already ordered an Altered Ego 4.5 lift.

    • @MrSputnik1988

      When put in 4wd, the front diff engages the driveshaft with the CV axles pneumatically.. the front diff is not a locker, it's still open.. the arb is a true locker, that's why you would install one for offroad use

    Great video. I have a steel front diff on my 04 Grand Vitara. What years use the same spline count so I could swap 5.13 gear into mine I wonder. And could the original pump be used for a air locker out back?

    • @MrSputnik1988
      @MrSputnik1988  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice.. 99-04 have same carriers so gears are interchangeable between all trackers and Suzuki counterparts in those years.. xl7 being the exception, they have a larger rear diff.
      As for the air pump, i do not know the answer to that question. You would have to find out the pressure requirementsfor the locker

    Thanks for the video, I'm doing the steal diff conversion to my 01auto GV now. I have a question about the pinion. I saw you pulled the bearing off the pinion from the aluminum one. Did you use the steal diff pinion bearings and shims and crush sleeve when you did the swap? Thanks again and I hope to see another vid with the 2.5 swap.

    • @MrSputnik1988
      @MrSputnik1988  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very nice, it's a good upgrade! I believe I used the steel diff pinion bearings because they mated up with the steel diff races and I didn't want to mix-n-match bearings and races. I think I used the steel diff crush sleeve also. As for the 2.5 swap, it's pretty much wrapped up and I believe my videos are still up

    • @MrSputnik1988

      You can, but not direct bolt in.. 1st gen carrier is offset compared to the 2nd gen because of the air pump diaphragm.. you would have to make hybrid CV axles to compensate

    When you did the welding job on your other front diff, how did you get the "axle lock clutch" (the spring part which you didn't need to remove when you use a spacer) out of the "differential left case"? My welding job failed and I need to clean up the old welds so need to completely dismantle all parts. Spares are not available here in Australia so don't want to damage as I plan to hopefully find a spacer like you used. If you can help with sourcing one please let me know.Thank you

    • @MrSputnik1988
      @MrSputnik1988  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, the air actuator will have to be removed and in order to remove that, the bearing will have to be pressed off. Then there are 4 tangs holding the spring assembly onto the carrier. You may be able to use a flat head screwdriver on the outside to pop it off. If not, you will have to access these tangs by pulling the ring gear off and splitting the carrier. As far as the spacer, there is a guy in Canada making them, but I don't remember his name. I know he is on quite a few of the Suzuki facebook groups

      @@MrSputnik1988 Thank you, have got it off and have cleaned up everything back to new. Thinking of machining a spacer up, just have to work out the thickness. I will try the Canada guy if I can find him first.

    • @barryw5911
      @barryw5911 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No luck with finding a spacer so I will machine one up. The critical measurement is the thickness of the spacer, fully engaged with clutch and spring fully compressed is 17mm but am not sure whether I should make it 16mm so the clutch and spring is not fully compressed. You wouldn't happen to have measured the width of the fab spacer before you fitted it or alternatively when fitted was there any clearance or not? I only want to do this once more. Thanks.

    • @MrSputnik1988
      @MrSputnik1988  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I do not have a measurement, but I do remember the spacer having zero clearance or slop. It was tight. The bearing was very close to bottoming out on the carrier

    Awesome video I just broke my second aluminum diff on my zr2 tracker. Where were you able to find your steel diff? i’ve search the Internet high and low and call around local yards The only place I can find them is on eBay and they want an arm and a leg for one. I’d have to break six or seven aluminum ones for the cost of one steel one. Both diffs broke in the exact same spot by the third member mount that bolts in to the crossmember. I think this time I’m going to go ahead and find another aluminum diff at my local pick a part for $50 and fabricate A rubber isolated Mount out of a stainless exhaust clamp that wraps around the third member and ties into the crossmember. The idea is to prevent The third member from twisting its self apart.

      Hey, thanks! I bought 2 steel diffs recently for $700 from someone local and sold the one for $300 as part of a deal. The one in the vid was in a parts Vitara I bought for $300 so I got lucky.. in my opinion, you shouldn't have to pay more than $400 for one, but they are hard to come by so the price will be a little steep.
