It clearly shows the mindset of a common soldier .... They are also human being like us... They too have family , kids . Once they heard the msg that war has stopped they left everything and going to their motherland - What a vision and theme . Really appreciated the team members and crew ❤️

The numerical advantage of the enemy was overwhelming! The performance of the German soldier on the battlefield was extraordinary! History and the enemy can attest to this.
“When this war is over we will be accused of an infinity of murder as if all men at war, everywhere hadn’t behaved the same way” The Forgotten Soldier (the book)
“The victor is the judge and jury and the vanquished is the accused”. H.G

It is a very complicated story - as one might imagine with so many people involved. There were horrific outrages beyond human understanding; there were moments of outstanding bravery; moments of cowardice and weakness and, at the heart, millions of men and women who were not at any of these extremes but gave their all believing in what their leaders told them. Surely, there lies a truth about war. It is generated by financiers and industrialists allying with corrupt politicians. The reaction is from those threatened and, in itself, is a mixture of good and evil.
There are numerous examples of soldiers of all nationalities committing atrocities (by which I include murdering surrendering soldiers or bombing civilian and not military targets). It is surely a gut-wrenching, totally disheartening reality of having to commit evil deeds to defeat a greater evil?

The USA and UK are not without blame but whatever that scale of blame, it pales into insignificance to the horrors that Stalin, Hitler and Tojo were responsible for. The true democratic countries were not whiter than white but can claim the moral high ground when compared to the (then) USSR, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and its allies

@@reginaldmcnab3265 unfortunately Mr McNab seems very set on a political, rather than historical, agenda. I did not mention the word victors at all - I was much more precise; the video and all the relevant comments were about the Second World War: I was not aware that the UK ever had an Emperor. The British Empire was certainly won using a good deal of military aggression; aggression that was line with, but arguably more successful than, the aggression shown by France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands in the building of their Empires.
I’m not going to continue with any sort of dialogue with Mr McNab. It seems to me he only wants to preach his politics - and I have no interest in assisting his propaganda

Oh those poor chaps. They felt that they could have carried on and were invincible. Why didn't they try harder earlier. This is click propaganda 75 years or so to late. Who are you making this rubbish for? Other boys who never grew up? I just watched footage of mobilised German units surrendering to the US. They still had armoured halftracks and much more weaponry than your battle reenactment hoby soldiers. The look on their faces was different. They were glad that it was all over. One has to be able to recognise when one is beaten and has faught for a lost cause. Do the same and stop pestering us with neo-propaganda like this garbage.

My cousin's grandfather fought in the Wehrmacht as a machine gunner from the first day of the invasion of Poland until the last day of the war in Bavaria. He told me as an elderly man in 1987 that when he received word that Germany surrendered, he shouted out with great elation "Gott sei Dank!" and simply couldn't believe that truly awful nightmare was finally over. Unfortunately for him he shared the same name as an SS war criminal, and it took three years in a British prison before he finally cleared his name.

I don’t know much but if that’s true, all soldiers are war criminals.
I don’t think it’s fair to say someone is a war criminal simply for being on the German side of the war.

I live in a former retreat zone of the Wehrmacht. My grandma told me that while passing through the dropped everything. Woods scattered with equipment, ammo trucks etc... The old people told me that they've just pilled up the ammo on the fields as kids... Burning it for fun. Today you can still see shoes sticking out of the ground. I use K98k clips I found here for my Karabiner. So many untold stories.

That's interesting. I was wondering just how accurate or realistic this short movie was, and it seems pretty accurate indeed. Most of the old B&W movies (Pathe) that I watch have the soldiers in full kit & handing-in their rifles, ammo, pistols, etc.

@@BelloBudo007 In some parts of the area occupied by Germany, the German soldiers could not lay down their weapons. That would have been a death sentence. Then these soldiers would have been lynched by partisans, or released prisoners of war, or concentration camp inmates.
At the time, my grandfather's company fought in the heavy liberation struggles around Bautzen at the end of April 1945 and was stationed in the vicinity of Prague to scream. His company had not put down its rifle after the surrender for fear of retaliatory attacks by partisans.
As soon as his company was on German soil, they put down their weapons and marched west to meet the Americans.

The supply lines where mostly intact

      reform.
