    I was a whitewater boater for 20 years and I have been forgetting US 74 when thinking of great roads to ride because it is a boating road to me. Good call on you.
    30 years ago I lived near the Dragon when only the locals knew about it. It was great. Last year I rode it for the first time in 20 years. On a weekday. In the off season. I won't bother going back to the zoo.
    Substitute the Snake for the Dragon and you got a great list.

      Oh man. That is such a good call. I need to look up The Snake! I try to limit my exposure on the Dragon. It’s just not safe with all the crazy traffic. Thank you so much for watching!

    Tail of the Dragon for me but I'm driving . Cherohala is great but I can see that if you push too hard things could go bad in a hurry ; and service of any kind could be far away . Just spent the first 2 weeks of November in the area and got to experience the new section of the Foothills Parkway . Just beautiful and the bridge section is breathtaking .
    Recently uploaded a couple of Cherohala passes on my channel but they are just the 18 mile NC side . Outbound pass has a bear sighting 🐻🐻🐻

    • @TyFromTennessee
      @TyFromTennessee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey William! You're right. There are areas of the Cherohala that can be sketchy from time to time. Anytime you are out and about and see a bear it's a good day. Thanks for watching!

    Haven't ridden any of the others you mentioned, but riding the River Road up by the Ocoee River is one of my very favorite rides. There's a lot more traffic on it now than there used to be, but it's still a fun ride with plenty of places to pull off and just admire the scenery. I was born and raised in the Copper Basin just up the road, so this area has special meaning for me and I've said many times that I think I could ride from Parksville up to Ducktown with my eyes closed.
    Thanks for highlighting it in your video.

    Ty, next time you are on the Skyway, check out Ball Play Rd. We leave the Knoxville area, ride the Foothills Parkway then go past Deals Gap and start the Skyway. Just before you get into Telico, Ball Play Rd takes you back north bound towards Knoxville. It’s a nice finish to a great ride.

    Seems my "current" Top Five are the same as yours. Personally, I would reverse #4 and #5. Tail of the Dragon, however fun it is to ride, it's technical and a workout. The Ocoee is a more relaxed ride, the kind of roads I enjoy most.

    • @TyFromTennessee
      @TyFromTennessee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Come check out some roads in North Georgia Highway 180 from Suches Georgia. It is call wolf pen Gap. US locals call it the Mini dragon. Also not a lot of traffic .you will come out just below Vogal state park. Turn left on 129 ride a few miles turn right on 180 and ride a mile or two and turn right on Russell scenic Hwy back over to A 75 turn left and go tru Helen Ga. Great place to stop and see or eat ( Is a little German-swiss town) then go south to Cleveland ga. Home of the Cabbage patch kids. Babyland Is general hospital. Then pick up 129 North Cleveland ga . Go across blood Mt. Which will take you right back to wolf pen Gap right below Vogal state park . Which they Is cabins for rent. Check it out you will not be disappointed the ride from blue ridge ga to suches ga is a nice ride to start.

      @TyFromTennessee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhhh yeah. I hope this video was helpful. Newfound Gap is a great ride but sometimes traffic can be a nightmare. Thank you very much for watching and ride safe!

  • @Road_Rash1
    @Road_Rash1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hard to argue with your 5....except for Newfound Gap. It is beautiful, but unless you enjoy rolling at 10-15 mph or heaven forbid someone sees a bear, traffic is sometimes unbearable. When on 2 wheels, we generally only go that way unless we are headed to or coming back from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Couple of rides in the same region to consider that are worth checking out. US421, the Snake, in upper East Tennessee is great. The little store in Shady Valley is the headquarters, not unlike at Tail of the Dragon. One of my favorites comes from the "Free Map" of rides in the area. The folks who publish that map licensed the name "Copperhead Road." Runs over several mountains in the area of Rogersville and Sneedville, TN. Made of several state and local roads. Stop in Rogersville and grab a bite at Red Dog on Main, you'll thank me :)

    • @TyFromTennessee
      @TyFromTennessee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff! Thank you for some of those rides and food stops! You’re right about NewFound Gap. Last time I went there I had to turn around because of traffic. It was a nightmare! If I stop at Red Dog, I’ll be sure and let you know. Thank you so very much for watching!!

    Those are all great roads for views. There are a lot of awesome roads back home in upper east TN that are incredible, we just don't tell people about them, don't want them getting crowded and turning into another tourist destination like the BOTD, which is, all but about 100 feet or so, located here in TN, not NC. I like riding on highway 30, love switchbacks. I love taking a day ride going from McMinnville down 30 to Etowah, then jumping on the Cherohala, onto the BOTD, then head home. Makes for a nice long day in the saddle, but an awesome way to spend a relaxing day. Great video, Ty.

    Very cool video Ty. I had the chance to hit a couple of these on our trip in 2019. We were going to do the foothills parkway, but part way through we ended up on little river gorge rd and that was just beautiful also. When your ever near there again look up little river gorge rd (google "The Townsend Wye" it's right at the start) and check that out.
