A Pokemon Platinum Hardcore Nuzlocke Monotype Challenge with ONLY PSYCHIC TYPE POKEMON - Can it be done? (No items, No overleveling)

RULES:
1) If a Pokemon faints, it's considered dead and can no longer be used.
2) Only the first encounter can be caught on each route.
3) Species Clause; I can reroll an encounter if the first encounter is something already caught.
4) No items in battle (held items are fine).
5) No overleveling the next gym leader's highest Pokemon (leveling up during the fight is allowed).
6) Battle style must always be on 'Set'.

I did. Seeing it on Bulbapedia always made younger me pissed because the exclusive Pokemon were genuienly cool like a Gengar in the Old Chateau

This is definitely my favourite video of yours so far, and maybe even my favourite run of platinum.
I know that Hardcore Nuzlocke rules don't allow trade evolutions, but I'm totally fine with trade evolutions in a Hardcore Nuzlocke because they give you access to some great Pokemon.
Looking forward to this one, Platinum is a great Nuzlocke to watch

In the final Barry fight, when he switched the sleeping Snorlax it didn't reset the sleep counter that doesn't happen until gen 5.

If you choose chimchar you would give Barry a steel type which resist psychic
I know it's late but, I didn't see single comment praising medicham. Its base stat total is only 410 but as quinn mentioned its pure power ability make it up for it. Tbh i think medicham is underrated:)

Ya know what would be a fun idea for a nuzlock? Only ising special attackers, normal attackers, tanks or speed demons or mono element pokemon. Probably not gonna be as hard as elemental nuzlocks it could surely create some interesting teams. Or something like only using pokemon that can learn a heal move.

Wouldn't the correct starter choice be Chimchar since Empoleon resists Psychic? Yeah, Gallade nukes it, but it'd be the most threatening due to its steel type?

Kind of depends. Most of the Psychic types can learn Shock Wave or Focus Blast. Till you face Empoleon, you WILL have a counter for it because it is the last evolution. Like he said, the rival's starter doesn't really matter because you will always have a counter for them, won't be STAB but will still have, and none of them have a good match against the Psychic type.
@@Deerthedoe6842 its normally what most nuzlockers do tho. They normally go for the type that resists STAB. Yes there are many other attacks it can learn that sweep it, but he didn't even acknowledge that empoleon resists psychic

Another great upload 👍 Have u considered doing the difficulty hacks like renegade platinum or sacred gold/storm silver? I’ve been playing through the latter on hardcore rules, and as long as u edge before boss fights and ev train, it’s pretty manageable. Drayano hacks are cool, but without putting EVs on boss Pokémon, it’s not the ridiculous level of difficulty that is any kaizo from SHF

Hey, fairly new viewer here, enjoy the content. Is the run you commentate over always the last run? Like for example when you beat Skuntank at 5:57 it was run 5 but then you jumped to run 7 at Fantina. Did you use the same strats both times or is it just an error in splicing footage together?
If I recall Fantina was quite difficult and had most of the attempts in the run so by the end he got a bit impatient and put up a save right befor the battle

great vid! i think gba insertions, pokewalker, pokeradar, dreamworld etc. should def be used, they just make the runs more interesting and funnier, like yours. although i thought changing mediTIGHT’s moveset mid e4 was a bit of a stretch with the pkhex conveniences, i think dabrah should’ve def evolved. i always thought that this no trade rule was plain stupid for emulator runs anyway. btw, i’d be great if you’d consider trying some of the nuzlocke variants out there, since they’re a bit underrated and would def make some great content. a starlocke, chesslocke, looplocke, apocalocke, evolocke are some of the top of my head :)

Actually there is a advantage cause emopleon will resist the psychic moves so it will make a difference

@@Quinnjamin Kind of depends. Most Psychic types learn Shock Wave or Focus Blast, Medicham and Gallade have the Fighting type.... and Empoleon just appears in a few battles where you will already have a great move or Pokémon to KO it easily so... the 'advantage' doesn't really exist in the end...

Here’s an idea for a new theme
Only Pokémon obtainable before the first gym:
So for Platinum any Pokémon you can capture before Roark is an legal encounter (evos allowed)
Once you pass Roark you can still capture Pokémon but only the Pokémon obtainable before you get access to rock smash
It probably wouldn’t be too difficult cause if all the Pokémon you’d have access to, yet it would still be enjoyable
Ah there is a good chunk of good Mons before the first Gym especially when fully evolved

Can you do a nuzlock on fire red with only fire type
I think it is a. might be impossible because of Misty if you follow Hardcore Nuzlocke rules b. Too hard because depends too much on luck with Brock, Misty and most of the Rival fights even when you get more encounters and c. Few encounters with not much variety in the moves. It's just so hard to do that doesn't make much sense.

You should do a hardcore nuzlocke with only Eevee evolutions (including Eevee if ya wanna)
This would have to be done with a lot of eggs and getting the stones and finding the Ice and Moss Rocks and the anime play for Sylveon

Normally you can switch out after ko-ing one of the enemies team without taking damage.
Set puts it to where you're in danger of being hit on switch-in if you choose to switch out between the deaths of the Trainers team
