    So cool seeing young Miyamoto and Bill. You really don't find much content like this from the time period. Thanks again for continuing to help to archive this time in Nintendo's history.

    Interesting how Miyamoto stated that Wind Waker was going to be in the very beginning of the timeline. I wonder what made them change their minds and make it take place in the future timeline of Ocarina of Time

    so, yuji naka made a proposal to Nintendo for a card battle game based on phantasy star online for the LCD screen, that became phantasy star online: episode 3 card revolution

    24:44 it's crazy that Iwata was talking about Phantasy Star Online Episode 3: C.A.R.D. Revolution in its early stages, where they wanted to use LCD Monitor or separate screens to display the trading card game aspect before the official release. It's fascinating to hear about a functionality like this being considered

  • @Refreshment01

    So this is 2002 not 2001? Didntthe screen & wave bird were in 2001 also.

    • @AdamDoree
      @AdamDoree  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Wavebird was 2001, but this session was at E3 2002 and Iwata thinks it's a surprise for the 2002 event, so...

    • @Refreshment01
      @Refreshment01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AdamDoree Nintendo schedule with the wavebird was weird. It was day zero in the japanese 2000 event, to the point it was the first gc controller i saw. So it was finalized at launch, why sit on it so much when it could have been bundled with another more expensive console sku?
      I mean they were contemplating the screen, which was a rather expensive extra.

  • @TheGreatTomDix
    @TheGreatTomDix ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All this talk about games being too hard for people and more able to be played by everyone used to make gamers think that Nintendo was weak! LMAO! Gamers still think having a fucking RGB fan makes them more hardcore!

    • @protocetid
      @protocetid ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody past their preteen years thinks RGB lighting makes them hardcore, peripherals with pro features like faster response times like to tack on RGB to have another selling point hence kids making the association. When RGB was new I think some did glorify it too much, say that you think you’re a pro because of your RGB products in a gaming community and if it isn’t full of children you’ll be mocked.

  • @Zinkolo

    Bring Myamoto of all people talk about the used games problem is so bizarre because of how anti consumer it is.
    Hope he doesn't hold that same stance today

    • @AdamDoree
      @AdamDoree  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fairness it wasn't just Miyamoto, the whole industry saw it as an issue back then, but some companies more than others... even trying to ban used games sales in some regions etc... obviously that didn't pan out... now, nobody really thinks about it any more

      @@AdamDoree The megacorps behind the major consoles think about everything in their never ending quest for more money, there’s a reason they made disc reader models the premium ones for the current generation. They must be licking their chops at the fact that they’ve almost killed off used games, they already succeed to do so for PC sigh. I’m really curious if Nintendo is going to keep physical media the default for their upcoming system. Can see it going either way.

    • @AdamDoree
      @AdamDoree  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I reckon physical has another gen left in it, at least for N - they can't kill it while there's still market for it

    • @protocetid
      @protocetid ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamDoree A sensible analysis, it would be handy to confirm what Nintendo’s reasons are for keeping cartridges. My theory is that it’s a way to differentiate themselves from their rivals, and maybe because the customers expect it so they have a way to play the classics when Nintendo leaves them hanging with the pitiful amount of ports on their newest consoles. I’ve also heard that elderly Japanese businessmen are more resistant to change than usual, don’t know if it’s true. The Mario company has a lot of the old guard still in charge right? "Releasing games physically is our tradition!"
      Speaking of internal Nintendo affairs, the Gigaleak had more than game prototypes, there were sensitive documents too. Floor plans, cafeteria menus, market research, internal emails and private information about employees. These are just the things I saw talked about when the data stash was looked through, and I didn’t hear any gaming publications say a peep about it. Nintendo is known for being secretive and kind of kooky so there has to be a juicy story in there. Don’t know the legality of using this material and employee addresses and phone numbers shouldn’t be published.
