    • @americangiant1003
      @americangiant1003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Yes he did. "White Men can't Jump" was the first movie in which Mr. Snipes was the lead star (along with Woody Harrleson) of a major film.

    • @americangiant1003
      @americangiant1003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      FYI. Snipes was also a co-starring role in a surprise hit 'New Jack City" in 1991 playing a Harlem area Drug Lord. However technically the lead star of the movie was Mario Van Pebbles who also was the Director played the NYC Police Detective trying to bring Snipes charatcter down.
      "White Men Can't Jump" was the first Snipes got top billing.

Both are great films, one a dark serious brutally realistic Vietnam war film....and the other a funny layed back feel good baseball comedy. What Indians owner Rachel Phelps couldn't do in the movie, Washington Senators owner Bob Short succeeded which was run the team into the ground so they could move to Texas.

      @shepardbook 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      And again, executed to perfection by Jeffrey Loria of the, then, Montreal Expos so they could be taken over major league baseball and moved to Washington, DC. With Loria getting the, then, Florida Marlins, now Miami Marlins.

    • @rockvilleraven
      @rockvilleraven 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      shepardbook You forgot that Loria tried to extort Montreal into building Labbat's Park when the city was closing schools and hospitals and had no money for it. So he traded it to MLB ownership in exchange for the Marlins. He did force Miami to build Marlins Park.
      Two years after the Expos moved to DC, they finally got a deep pocketed owner in local shopping center magnet Ted Lerner.

    • @americangiant1003

      It was a joke IMO what Mr. Short did for DC. Should have just sold the team to a local Businessman i.e Abe Polin who later owned the NBA Bullets/Wizards and then NHL Expansion club the Capitals.
      Worse case scenario Short or another new Senators Owners could have just built a new 40,000-seat baseball only ballpark in say Arlington County Virginia or the Maryland area suburbs. And North Texas (Dallas area)gets a NL or AL expansion team.

    Not only the best baseball movie ever, the best comedy ever. I'm 36 and have easily seen this movie 50 times. Every line is funny. Not a single joke falls flat. Plus there are a million quotable one liners that crack me up.
    "Jake's a professional baseball player for the Indians".
    "Here in Cleveland? I didn't know they still had a team".
    "Oh, ya. We got uniforms and every thing else. It's real great".
    "I've heard baseball players make very good salaries these days".
    "I make the league minimum".

    However, earlier in the movie the 3 guys at the diner were reading the spring training list of players and they say:
    "Ricky Vaughn...Willie Hayes? I never heard of most of em! Mitchell Friedman??"
    How could Willie Hayes name have been in the paper if he snuck his way into camp and they didnt know who he was??
