James Carroll, "CONSTANTINE’S SWORD: Twenty Years Later - A Retrospective"

Published in 2001, James Carroll’s book "Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews," magnificently and with soul-searching, surveys the 2000-year history of Jewish-Christian relations. Now, 20 years later, the author -together with Dr. Svartvik’s students Jack Engelmann ‘22 and Matthew Hanauer ‘22 - discuss the impact of the book, what has been achieved, and what still remains to be done.
James Carroll is the author of twelve novels, most recently "The Cloister," which the New York Times called “Incandescent” and nine works of non-fiction, including "The Truth at the Heart of the Lie," which was named a Best Book of 2021 by Publishers Weekly. Other books include the National Book Award winning "An American Requiem" and "House of War," which won the first PEN-John Kenneth Galbraith Award. His million-copy bestselling novel "Mortal Friends" will soon be re-issued by Blackstone Press. His oped column appeared weekly in The Boston Globe for twenty-three years. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Art & Sciences, and a Founding Member of Writers for Democratic Action.
