It amazes me that the elephant in the room isn't mentioned. We talk and talk about how funding it is SO hard, but not about the fact that we're using the philosophy of "the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff". If there's one clear indicator for poor health outcomes, it's poor housing. It cannot be fixed overnight, but we HAVE to start seriously focusing on it. It blows my mind how many terms we've put it down the list of important issues, and refused to make any radical changes. Meanwhile, we have cases of rheumatic fever cropping up in our kids. So while we don't want to pay for housing, we end up paying for it down the track anyway, in the form of unhealthy kids and overloaded hospitals.

Moari mainly seem to prefer to live in areas of the country where housing is cheaper, life is much slower, seafood and hunting is available. The downside seems to be that there is little infrastructure of any kind in these places. Professionals seem not to want to work there. I have difficulty finding an ATMs in Auckland. Must be awful in the regions.
Because Pakeha 1. Generally have better access to healthcare than Maori which is in part caused by 2. Maori are generally less well off than Pakeha. Money, like in most things, is a huge factor when it comes to being healthy and being able to access health when it's needed. That said, Pakeha have to put up with a deteriorating health services also. It's a national issue.

The health system has been a shambles for decades through successive governments. Lack of government investment, preference to landlords and tax cuts were given in 2024.. Why not reinvest that money into health and education instead? If people have more money from tax cuts then shops and suppliers can increase their prices, causing inflation. why would you do that? Instead focus on making sure the electricity providers, supermarkets and petroleum suppliers aren't charging us more than they need to... That is what would make life cheaper and easier for kiwis, not tax cuts.
