- The most southern of Gold Coast's famous sandy beaches and world-class surf beaches is Coolangatta. Coolangatta is renowned for its casual beach-side culture and fantastic surf beach.
You have a choice of activities once you arrive. You may choose to spend the day surfing or swimming with the locals or walk along the promenade.
Coolangatta was named after the schooner, named Coolangatta, which was wrecked here in 1846. It means "beautiful place".
With its oceanfront accommodation, cafes, restaurants, and clubs popular with locals and tourists, people flock to Coolangatta for music festivals, swim events, surf competitions, and more.
Fantastically, due to the summertime difference with Tweed Heads, which is on the border, everyone celebrates New Year’s twice. Now that is amazing!
