Great honing session Eric! I’m with you, the part I enjoy most about straight razors is the honing. Shaving is shaving, honing is the true connection with the razor.
@@jpo31 I did not, I probably should get my bevel setting permit first. Then let the council approve it after a thorough inspection. But we both know it won’t be good enough. 😝
That was an interesting progression for the texture at the apex. A coticle scratch pattern, modified by a Thuringian scratch pattern, modified by an Ark. The result should be _very_ specific since each natural stone is unique. Fascinating! [And, yes, I'll be trying this at some point. I won't let a good idea go uncopied.] BTW, I feel the same way about burnishing an Ark. I _want_ there to be some surface texture to provide me feedback (since I don't count at all), and to give character to the feel of the apex.
It was a good one. The Thuri as an in between step did an excellent job setting up the Ark. it felt good, and didn’t take as long to get where I wanted to be with the Ark, and the shave was nice. I will do this again, and probably the way I transition to an Ark moving forward.
@ Did it feel like an Ark edge, or something new? In using a Koma slurry on an Ark before finishing on an Ark, I found I needed less time on the Ark to get a laser sharp Ark finish. Later, I went back to the Ark with a thin Koma slurry and created a feel that was different from what I normally get with an Ark.
I always use a coti before final finishing on a translucent Arkansas. It might seem weird, but I use the Arks on my American made razors and Jnats on everything else.
I get to board to be committed to long 😂. I hone on anything that will hold still. My favs are Cot, jnats and Arks. But j spread the love around liberally. Thanks Mike, take care bud.
That looked like some relaxing honing. Beautiful barbers delight. I can’t remember what I hone that razor on since at the time I was honing four SR’s a week. I’m happy you’re enjoying that MK 8!
I think that in the process of making it sharp, you can make the edge harsh. There is a balanced that each persons face likes. I am not a fan of the guys who say, this that way or your wrong. Every homer needs to find what they like, level of keenness and desired smoothness. You can have both.
@BigEShaves Hmm.....i managed to get the razors i have ( not so many, but enough for me) to be even sharper than before using those stones i bought from uk and some techniques i stole from your videos....they cut like never before, and at the second pass, against the grain, im getting some burns which with a duller blade didnt happen. Should i get a better soap or less sharp razor? What do you think i should do/try?
Thanks for watching. I mostly one stone hone on a coti, i love their range and versatility. i do have a turkey, but it’s a small one. Have a great week.
If you have not honed at all. I would start with Synthetics. I think the Shapton RockStars are the Best Buy for the buck. I like the Naniwa Chosera line, but my next set will be RockStars. 2k, 6k, 10k would get you honing.
Very interesting hone Video, Eric!
Smooth and relaxed!
Have a great weekend!
You’re doing my favorite honing method!! I love going from my Coti to my Thuringian to my Ark!! I always get a dynamite edge!!
Thank you for the honing video. I always enjoy them
Thank you for sharing. Take care.
You’re welcome, glad yuh enjoyed it. Take care bud.
@@Eric_TheCajunBlade Thank you much. :)

Thanks Joe. Can’t wait to get home and try Black Diamond
Great honing video Eric. That natural stone progression sure likes it will produce a keen and comfortable edge.
Thanks Sean, I did enjoy it. Looking forward to you next one
Hi Eric, nice to see some Swedish steel. I grow up just 50km from Eskilstuna where they were made..
Right on, that’s awesome. I have looked for a while for the right CVH, I really like this one. Now in need a few more. Great steel, fabulous shaver
Look at that black beauty!
Love them Black Arks
Super Big Honer Here and I can tell you’re doing this the correct way.
Even without synthetics?
😂
@ No without synthetics you need help from the Italian guy
Lol
Like your new intro. I need to spend more time with my Ark;) Nice honing rhythm. Enjoy your shave.
Thanks, playing with some stuff. I’m a bit Technically challenged 🥴
@@Eric_TheCajunBlade Did you run this routine by the jedi honing council , aka B&B? The first step is to get the bevel set approved.

Thanks Johnny I hope you’re happy with your end of the trade. You took care of me with this one, very happy. Take care bud and enjoy your weekend.
@ I’m very happy with the TI and a chance to try out your super curve edge. Have a great weekend too!
Do you think a razor can be so sharp that you need to make it less sharp? I dont know how to say it better, but i think you understand what i mean..
