Dmitry Shostakovich was born in Saint Petersburg. His grandfather was a Pole living in Vilnius. With his works, Shostakovich opposed Stalin. He took an active part in the resistance, actively participating in the January Uprising, supporting Poles. After the fall of the uprising, he was exiled to Siberia because the radicalism of Shostakovich's musical language turned out to be unacceptable to Stalin and his political and cultural ideology. The uprising was the largest Polish national uprising, it lasted about 2 years, about 20,000 people died. insurgents. In 1987 a movie was made 'War Symphony'. In 1943 Shostakovich composed 'Symphony No. 8 in C minor, Op. 65' which some refer to as the 'Stalingrad Symphony' or 'Poem of the Passion', also considered a symbol of resistance to Nazism. Dmitry Shostakovich is considered one of the most respected composers of the 20th century. I chose this piece composed by Shostakovich in order to break away from the dirty war between Russia and Ukraine for a while.
