Great segment , well done. More episodes like this. I like how he plays selfless & straight and doesn’t drown the guitars in reverb so we can actually hear the instrument rather than just the amp.
maybe do some analysis and tell us the pros and cons of owning either. every guitar has pros and cons and styles of music for and against it. Who owned such a guitar and what song was recorded with it? that would be eye-opening content. just a thought or two. luv this channel
I'd love to see you put two of the same model Gretsch head to head, but 1 with DeArmonds and the other with FilterTrons... And I'd have to pick the Duo Jet, but it's a close call.
I just had to make a very similar decision with my own guitars. Had to choose between my Gretsch Tennessee Rose and my Gretsch Power Jet to sell. In the end I kept the Power Jet and sold the Tennessee Rose. Wish I could’ve kept both!
The 6120 for me, but the duo jet is a close second!... I had a recent bout of GAS and the Gretsch electromatic Jet Club G5425 came my way for a ridiculously low price......Now I know it does not have the finesse of sound that more expensive gretches have but I had a real shock when I compared it against my Les Paul standard......It left the Paul for dust in the rockin 'n riffing jam comparison. I can't put the thing down! Even at the new price it is a hell of a guitar for the money.
Nice! I can't decide between them... Would like to see some strumming too! How about a same Gretsch model but with different pickups - DeArmonds vs. Filtertrons?
Would like to hear an American Strat vs an Eric Johnson Strat. Do the the semi-hollow body and differently wrapped pickups make a marked difference between the two guitars?
I have two 6120s and one 6128, I practice on the 6128 more often because it is more comfortable to hold. Sound wise they are for different uses, I like the Jet more for blues to hard rock, I like the Nashvilles more for Rockabilly, Western Swing or Jazz. My 6136 (White Falcon) is much better at straight ahead jazz than either a 6120 or a 6128, the spruce top and wider body are more resonant. Both my 6136 and 6128 have Dynasonic pickups, I haven’t played a 6120 with Dynasonics in it yet, I am curious.
the fret situation that you mention did make a difference to my ears. *woody tone X a more clear precise one; *I thought the 6120 sound more complex; *both great - But the Duo Jet 'cause of the looks
SG with the batwing guard versus the 61 style. Batwing guard ones do not have pickup rings and the pups sit in them differently, so there can be quite a bit of difference in distance to the strings for each coil of the pickup. I wonder how it affects the sound. Would have to be the same pups in both to maybe tell.
As a resolute duo jet hater, I must say the jet sounded way better than the 6120 - clearer with more thump. The 6120 sounded muddier/muffled which surprised me as I much prefer hollow bodies. Bear in mind though that in a real life situation the player would adjust the controls on their amp to compensate for any differences .
The DuoJet to me sounded fuller, richer and more complex and had a bite the 6120 couldn't get with its big body. The 6120 has a rounder sound and is pretty versatile but the DuoJet was airy and sweeter to my ears. You can really crank them and they'll sing and raunch all night.
I'm partial to the 6120 mainly because I used to play one in high school. Man that thing would sing plugged into a cranked tube-amp. I know that's not what they were designed for, but it was great at it. Don't the Gretsches have a shorter scale than a Gibson, that could've contributed to it's easy playing feel.
I have both of the reissues and standing on a stage, they are such different beasts especially cranked up, the gorgeous acoustics of the 6120 vs the bell like precision of the duo jet? I love them both! Of course the originals sound quite different, but I thought I’d act like I know something 😂 checkout my vids to see both reissues in action!
love the Eddie Cochran sound and look so I get that warm fuzzy feeling just seeing a 6120 but I'm not musical enough to hear enough difference between these two I would struggle in a blindfold test. maybe Gretsch v Rickenbacker would be a good would you rather ? of course I already know if like both of those also lol. good idea though.
I’m kinda upset with myself before you started playing I was dead set on the 6120 just because I love that Guitar but damn if that duo jet didn’t blow me away!!
Too close to call... with one exception. The 6120 is a wee bit muddier on "Middle" pickup. And I have great sound on my PC :-) (Not listening on my Phone or iPad!)
I don’t play guitar but the 57 has a slightly mellower or lower tone to my tone deaf ears than the 58. That said, I’d take the 57 because I like the color and it came out the same year I did.
They sound similar but the Duo Jet sung to me more (it had a slightly higher treble to it). But I’d take either one. Would be interesting to see this done with like an actual 57 Strat and a Custom Shop 57 Strat reissue. Or any modern day reproduction and the original guitar it’s based on.
I think the difference in tone is small enough that I'd choose mostly based on how they feel, and for me that's probably going to be the Duo Jet. The 6120 is a class act, but the Jet's just a bit sleeker and cleaner
I don't know , I liked the sound of the duo jet more , I was hearing some buzz from the 6120 and it just didn't sound as clear or bright , it is cooler looking , but I like the jet.
6120 but i have a bias from Brian Setzer and Chet Atkins.
Hell yeah
The 60120 sounds warmer!
But the Duo Jet could take same crunch too...
Think I'd rather the Dou Jet. For George😄
For me: 6120
I’d like to see SG junior vs Les Paul Junior
Or Les Paul one with P90s and one with Humbuckers
I like the 58 Duo Jet better.. It sounds more precise on each note. Thanks.
Great segment , well done. More episodes like this. I like how he plays selfless & straight and doesn’t drown the guitars in reverb so we can actually hear the instrument rather than just the amp.
I'd like to see late 1950's Jazzmaster vs late 1970's Jazzmaster
Good idea; more of these please.
Great segment. I’m partial to the Duo. Looking forward to future videos like this!
Cool feature, excellent video----Duo Jet all the Way!!
Great idea! This is going to be a very cool segment, looking forward to future segs...for this one, the duo jet did it for me.
The 6120's sound has more depth -- it would be my choice. I would not turn down the Duo Jet, though.
I should have known you’d be here! 😂😂😂
@@AdrianWhyte 'Course! :-D
What a GREAT idea! This is awesome! Todd, dude tasty playing! But it’s the 6120 all the way!
Would like to see a 50's vintage Strat vs a modern 50's reissue Strat. Or a Gretsch White Falcon vs a Penguin.
You will not find a Penguin at Norm's. He won't buy them. There are way more fake Penguins than real ones :-)
no doubt the 6120 and how about an early Martin against a Gibson
Having to pick....6120. Great idea for showing guitars side by side.
Really like this would you rather guys. Hope to see more with a variety of guitars
Looking forward to more in this series!
I like them both! Also, I LOVE this segment. This is a great idea!!!
Duo Jet does it for me--I'm liking this segment idea already.
Dig the new segment! Yes I would rather...
Great new segment.
Both sounded close, but I’d
Rather the Duo Jet❕
Why were the 6120’s pickups inverted ❓
I’m surprised how much alike they sound. Actually I like the Jet.
maybe do some analysis and tell us the pros and cons of owning either. every guitar has pros and cons and styles of music for and against it. Who owned such a guitar and what song was recorded with it? that would be eye-opening content. just a thought or two. luv this channel
Thanks guys! I like the idea a lot. Between these two I’d pick the 6120. It has a rounder, fuller, more mellow sound to my ears. Well played Todd 👍👏
The 6120 sounds a little bit more rockabilly.
I want it both !! hehe
More sparkle in the 6120 to my ears....that takes the cake...
Great job would be nice to hear the difference between duo jet with single coil dearmond and the 6120 with the humbucker Filtertrons
Love this new segment. Would you rather late 60’s maple cap tele vs pre rosewood pre cbs tele?
6120, great job, great segment, great concept
Love the segment idea. Oh...and please send my choice (at your earliest convenience)... the 58 Duo Jet.
Really like the middle position of the Duo Jet, but 6120 is my favourite in bridge an neck position. So, I'd say the I like the 6120 better.
Would love to see a new D’angelico exl 1 compared to a vintage one or the new one with an L5.
Love Todd's playing... I like the black one more
This is NOT an "either/Or" question guys; The correct answer is BOTH; having a 6128T and a 6120 is a real blessing....
Cool New Segment, i really dig it, especially with such beatiful guitars.
I’ve played a Tennessean for fifty years and surprised myself by going with the DuoJet (but very close)
A big hell yes for the Duo Jet!! 😛🎸 I’d like to see a standard tele vs a thinline tele.
Can I have both? Honestly both my favourite guitars. Dearmond pickups are the best
6120 for the win. Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Steve Wariner and Duane Eddy were the masters. But that Duo Jet’s smaller size also impressed me
Great premise. I don't see any way you can run out of material. Keep it up. Duo Jet or 6120? I'll take the Telecaster, thanks!
Would Love to see Casino vs 335!
Love the new feature.
Would like to hear an American Strat vs an Eric Johnson Strat. Do the the semi-hollow body and differently wrapped pickups make a marked difference between the two guitars?
That was most enjoyable........could I choose the duo jet, with a Bigsby?
I have two 6120s and one 6128, I practice on the 6128 more often because it is more comfortable to hold. Sound wise they are for different uses, I like the Jet more for blues to hard rock, I like the Nashvilles more for Rockabilly, Western Swing or Jazz. Both my 6136 and 6128 have Dynasonic pickups, I haven’t played a 6120 with Dynasonics in it yet, I am curious.
Very similar, the Duo Jet sounds a bit tighter in the bass. How about Rickenbacker toaster-tops vs high gains>?
the fret situation that you mention did make a difference to my ears.
*woody tone X a more clear precise one;
*I thought the 6120 sound more complex;
*both great - But the Duo Jet 'cause of the looks
The Gretsch 6120 is my favorite electric guitar of all time. I love it, I love it, I love it!
I wouldn't mind seeing some Gibson's vs some of the law suit guitars , the new suit , and the old suits.
Would be happy with either ..take them both !...6120 sweet got little more range ..cool tones
Both super cool. If I had to pick, I’d take the 6120 due to Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran, Brian Setzer, etc. Would have to be left-handed though!
I'd like to see early 1950's Telecaster vs early 1970's Telecaster
The Duo Jet without a doubt.... 😍
Toddtastic comparison and showcase. 😎 🇺🇸 KAGG 🇺🇸 Keep American Guitars Great
great! let's hope that this NEW SEGMENT really takes off and soon! about time you started wearing some good shirts, can't hardly wait! haha
I like all the bottom end coming out of the 6120 but the Duo Jet all day for me
I'd like to see the shop's oldest Strat vs shop's newest Strat (non-Squier)
I think I like the idea of this new series
My grandfather had a 6120 when I was growing up.But, I would I like the Duo. Ether would be better then I have now.
Please do a 58/59 vs a 64 ES-335 !!
More love for the Duo Jet! :)
1958 Gretsch Duo Jet
As a resolute duo jet hater, I must say the jet sounded way better than the 6120 - clearer with more thump. The 6120 sounded muddier/muffled which surprised me as I much prefer hollow bodies. Bear in mind though that in a real life situation the player would adjust the controls on their amp to compensate for any differences .
Duo Jet all the way. 1959 Jazzmaster or a 1959 Stratocaster.
The 6120for me. How 'bout a Jag vs. a Jazzmaster?
California girls! Nice version. They’re both beautiful sounding
I still love my 50's Gretsch Silver Jet.
I may be biased because I own a Duo Jet reissue.. but i'd be willing to give the 6120 a go.
The middle position on both are killer
I'm partial to the 6120 mainly because I used to play one in high school. Man that thing would sing plugged into a cranked tube-amp. I know that's not what they were designed for, but it was great at it. Don't the Gretsches have a shorter scale than a Gibson, that could've contributed to it's easy playing feel.

I love them both! Of course the originals sound quite different, but I thought I’d act like I know something 😂 checkout my vids to see both reissues in action!
Duo Jet of course ....
In the cards you should put a poll on would you rather
I like the 6120. Its sounds perfect for country music
the duo jet had so much more sag and squishy-ness in the low end. i love that sound
I have a 1990 6120GW which is an absolute killer guitar
They sound very close but the 6120 has the Bigsby tremolo for more sounds like rockabilly and western music. 🎼🎸
As a human of Liverpool my heart says the duo. My head says the hollobody
love the Eddie Cochran sound and look so I get that warm fuzzy feeling just seeing a 6120 but I'm not musical enough to hear enough difference between these two I would struggle in a blindfold test. maybe Gretsch v Rickenbacker would be a good would you rather ? of course I already know if like both of those also lol. good idea though.
I’m kinda upset with myself before you started playing I was dead set on the 6120 just because I love that Guitar but damn if that duo jet didn’t blow me away!!
I have a 1965 6120 (Burgundy) and a 1959 Duojet (black), so pointless me choosing...overall, I probably play the Duojet a bit more.
If I can't have both, I would go for the
Duo Jet. It spoke to me
Bob
I'd like to see the shop's oldest Tele vs shop's newest Tele (non-Squier)
Too close to call... with one exception. The 6120 is a wee bit muddier on "Middle" pickup. And I have great sound on my PC :-) (Not listening on my Phone or iPad!)
Love it Todd!
I don’t play guitar but the 57 has a slightly mellower or lower tone to my tone deaf ears than the 58. That said, I’d take the 57 because I like the color and it came out the same year I did.

I already have a 6120, so send me the Duo Jet!
Both!!! Duo had a more hollow Treble Or Mid sound than the 6120. I like the 6120 warmth. Peace
Chet Atkins for sure especially for that more natural finish. But holy hell, that finish is beautiful on the Duojet.
I think the difference in tone is small enough that I'd choose mostly based on how they feel, and for me that's probably going to be the Duo Jet. The 6120 is a class act, but the Jet's just a bit sleeker and cleaner
do the '59 LP vs the Custom Shop R9. That is what everyone wants to see.
Yup...the 6120...like the rounder tones the larger body produces.
I have a bias toward black guitars and I love the small body, but the 6120 sounds better.
I don't know , I liked the sound of the duo jet more , I was hearing some buzz from the 6120 and it just didn't sound as clear or bright , it is cooler looking , but I like the jet.
The sound of Duo Jet, the colour of the 6120.
