Regina Rose Black wei finally an intellectual. I barely remember commenting this but it still stands. It’s INSULTING really what they did when there was so much else to explore...like... His past life? His motivations? His loneliness? They basically took away the core traits of his character _that made audiences like him._ And for what, to make him "likable" and as scary as a puppy. Not every well-written character needs to end up being GOOD, that's just the worst writing there is. _Actual_ development is when the audience sees a character in a different light than they used to because of getting to know that character more - and if a change in someone's personality does happen it should be because of _themselves_ and not 'for others'. (which is why so many characters in the whole TVD/TO universe are badly written) EVEN I COULD'VE GIVEN HIM A MORE VALUABLE STORYLINE. For example: just pick up where he left in TVD -vengeful against Elena and Jeremy. That would give his character a purpose and it wouldn’t be OOC cause we already know he’s stubborn, murderous and would correct the shit unbelievable way he got murdered. I honestly think it had made for a better story had Nate (aka one Original) stayed on TVD the whole time. Either to keep his siblings in the loop (although that's unlikely lol) *or* to hatch his own [revenge] plans against the MF gang. Maybe manipulate someone there to be his ally, toy with their bonds, like when he tried teaming up with Bonnie at the season 4 finale. That would’ve turned things interesting. He could’ve been a great antagonist for s5 instead of forgettable Silas, or someone who's waiting in the shadows for the right moment to strike while everyone else is focused on a main villain (which showcases his cunning nature). But nooooo don’t give him a larger part despite being a fan fave played by a good actor - we all know Julie Plague favors mostly Klaus. Tbh it’s called THE ORIGINALS and Kol didn’t even feature as himself until season 3, and even then he didn’t have much to do??? It’s so wasted and transparent I shriek.
I completely disagree kol remained consistent entirely through in his personality from tvd to to like for the whole time just because he fell in love that didn't change his personality not in the least he is even more of a badass in to than tvd but that is it. He was like only nice to davina that was the only change instead of being a dick to everyone he went to being a dick to everyone except one person him acting all lovey dovey with one person doesn't change his personality it is merely showing other sides to his character. He had some of the best development we learned his history of magic and how losing his magic influenced his overall personality and casual disregard for life.

And the fact he didn't even feature as himself until the 3rd season shows how little they value his character and him as an Original. The only thing he did was create dark objects, seduce witches and speak with Freya and Davina about magic... that's not exploring a character. The only interesting thing they did was in s2 (not even in his own body) when we saw his bitterness toward Klaus. But that shit got resolved in a lame manner, barely moved neither Klaus nor Kol anywhere relationship or character wise and they just went back to normal again as if it didn't happen. Kol was still being frozen out, Klaus was still an egomaniac. And then his character started to revolve around Davina ... why? He didn't need a love interest to be interesting, and if they HAD to at least write it well. If anything he became a typical trope because of it... we don't need to see a "bad boy turned mushy because of a girl" again. That's not another side to him, it's a cliche that writers choose when they don't know what else to do with a character. A lot of the character analysis on Kol is actually based on assumptions and fans fleshing him out, rather than canon actually showing it.

Well TVD fucking died after season 3. The Originals is far superior to TVD in every way but a bunch of teenage girls Couldn't relate to grown up drama so they stuck with stupid teen drama of B's.
He was always strong. Damon kills him (temporarily) twice, but always with luck, because kol was having fun. In other fights against Damon, when kol wanted to take revenge he was much superior. Against Elena and Jeremy, kol wasn’t even trying, he could have killed Elena but he stuck the stake next to his heart on purpose and didn’t kill Jeremy so he wouldn’t be cursed so he went to play more when he wanted to cut Jeremy’s arms, he went surprised because the tap water had verbana. But even so it is difficult to accept, but these fights are not the only ones without logic in season 3 of tvd Caroline in a fight was superior to damon, because he was not even trying.

Ly Leroy Oh, finally! I always think, I'm the only one feeling this way about his "character development". You put it into words in a way, I absolutely love, because that's just the exact same opinion as I think. Every words are so true! He is literally NOTHING like he was. That's why Kolvina became my number one notp. Because I absolutely loved Kol from TVD. His character was everything! And now it kind of seems like for me, that he basically has no personality, like AT ALL. And all because of some girl, some nonsense romance. It makes me SO angry and upset.
I loved this scene, because like you said, for once he was himself, at least, more than he used to be. But besides these 2 eps, I actually think, Kol died in tvd 4x12 for good. He never really came back. And as for me, I might would've want him rather be dead, than see him, like that.
Regina Rose Black wei finally an intellectual. I barely remember commenting this but it still stands. It’s INSULTING really what they did when there was so much else to explore...like... His past life? His motivations? His loneliness?
They basically took away the core traits of his character _that made audiences like him._ And for what, to make him "likable" and as scary as a puppy. Not every well-written character needs to end up being GOOD, that's just the worst writing there is. _Actual_ development is when the audience sees a character in a different light than they used to because of getting to know that character more - and if a change in someone's personality does happen it should be because of _themselves_ and not 'for others'. (which is why so many characters in the whole TVD/TO universe are badly written)
EVEN I COULD'VE GIVEN HIM A MORE VALUABLE STORYLINE. For example: just pick up where he left in TVD -vengeful against Elena and Jeremy. That would give his character a purpose and it wouldn’t be OOC cause we already know he’s stubborn, murderous and would correct the shit unbelievable way he got murdered. I honestly think it had made for a better story had Nate (aka one Original) stayed on TVD the whole time. Either to keep his siblings in the loop (although that's unlikely lol) *or* to hatch his own [revenge] plans against the MF gang. Maybe manipulate someone there to be his ally, toy with their bonds, like when he tried teaming up with Bonnie at the season 4 finale. That would’ve turned things interesting. He could’ve been a great antagonist for s5 instead of forgettable Silas, or someone who's waiting in the shadows for the right moment to strike while everyone else is focused on a main villain (which showcases his cunning nature). But nooooo don’t give him a larger part despite being a fan fave played by a good actor - we all know Julie Plague favors mostly Klaus.
Tbh it’s called THE ORIGINALS and Kol didn’t even feature as himself until season 3, and even then he didn’t have much to do??? It’s so wasted and transparent I shriek.
I completely disagree kol remained consistent entirely through in his personality from tvd to to like for the whole time just because he fell in love that didn't change his personality not in the least he is even more of a badass in to than tvd but that is it. He was like only nice to davina that was the only change instead of being a dick to everyone he went to being a dick to everyone except one person him acting all lovey dovey with one person doesn't change his personality it is merely showing other sides to his character. He had some of the best development we learned his history of magic and how losing his magic influenced his overall personality and casual disregard for life.

And the fact he didn't even feature as himself until the 3rd season shows how little they value his character and him as an Original. There was basically not much addressed about his connection to magic in regards to his identity crisis in the main show. The only thing he did was create dark objects, seduce witches and speak with Freya and Davina about magic... that's not exploring a character. The only interesting thing they did was in s2 (not even in his own body) when we saw his bitterness toward Klaus. But that shit got resolved in a lame manner, barely moved neither Klaus nor Kol anywhere relationship or character wise and they just went back to normal again as if it didn't happen. Kol was still being frozen out, Klaus was still an egomaniac. And then his character started to revolve around Davina ... why? He didn't need a love interest to be interesting, and if they HAD to at least write it well. If anything he became a typical trope because of it... we don't need to see a "bad boy turned mushy because of a girl" again. That's not another side to him, it's a cliche that writers choose when they don't know what else to do with a character.
A lot of the character analysis on Kol is actually based on assumptions and fans fleshing him out, rather than canon actually showing it.
