    The Unrated Directors Cut is my preferred version of The Descent...cause the ending is alot darker....when she escapes the cave and finds out it was an allusion that she really didn't escape...but was back in the cave with the bat creatures.

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Agreed. I actually prefer the darker ending...and I think that ending fits the character more. She can finally be at peace in death with her daughter.

    Great review. It's been a long ass time sense I seen this flick. The monsters always reminded me of the falmer from The Elder Scrolls. An underground species of humanoids that were reshaped after spending thousands of years living in isolation underground.

    I love this movie. I like how one of the creatures is just casually shown drooling, before the girls even see them, and this moment is very unexpected; it kind of ends the slow build-up of suspense in such a hilarious way. Then, when they are finally startled by Smeagol's cousin, that jump scare got me. I don't usually jump at jump scares but this one got me again!

      Natalie Rose Completely agree Natalie. The dissent is easily one of the best movies of the last 15 years.

  • @einc70
    @einc70 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I love how they were able to flesh out the dynamics between the girls. They start off as "college" buddies then at the end they end up killing each other for survival. It's one of those situation when you realize you can rely on your supposed friends for so long. At the end of the day, you are on your own. So I love how they build those complexities between the girls. There always will be competition between girls, we get to see a lot of that in the movie. I thought the antagonism was stronger between the girls then the crawlers although their presence help build up the tension. As much I love happy ending it would make more sense if they've never made it out alive. The score also made it even more visceral I totally agree.

    This is one of the best underrated horror movies, I agree 100%. The ending was so crazy, I remember seeing it in the theater and gripping my seat haha. The acting is great, the story is great, and yeah the friends relationship is so believable. This was one of your best reviews, you broke it down really well. I like the idea of the cave being the other danger besides the creatures. This movie will without a doubt make you feel claustrophobic. I can't say enough about this movie, it's honestly pretty much perfect. I love movie soundtracks as well, especially from the 80's lol. I hope you review The Descent 2, as it reminds me of Halloween 1 & 2, a continuance of the story etc. Great review bro, off to watch some more of your videos :)

    This movie is one of the best horror movies I’ve ever seen. Between the extremely tight spaces and feeling of getting trapped along with the horror of the creatures is enough to make me almost seize while watching it. I'm with you brother, I just happened to stumble upon this film back in 2006 and wasn't expecting anything really but then Holy Shit!!! I was hooked from the beginning and it's seriously one of my favorite movies ever too, also kinda funny, "The Crow" which you just happened to show is another one of my favorites, also yes, exactly, this movie is like a two in one bonus cause it was horrifying, dark, and emotional as they're just lost, helpless, and hopeless in this terrible situation already before any creature is even revealed and then the shit just truly hits the fan and there really is no hope at all and it makes you feel like it's all happening to you the viewer as well which is what makes this just a masterpiece

    Great review! Surprised no one mentioned it's homage to other great horror/drama classics: Sarah's hand pushing up dirt from the cave to freedom- "Carrie" reaching out from her grave to grab her former classmate's arm in the dream sequence at the end of the film. Sarah rising up from the vat of blood - Martin Sheen rising up from the muddy water on his way to dispatch Col. Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. The first real glimpse of the humanoid creature with fluid dripping from it's face - the real glimpse of the "Alien" with mucus dripping from it's face in that film. And quite a few others I noticed! Great, great movie and great review. Also loved the music!

    Hey! Just wanted to say great review!!! If you ever want to extend your exploration of this film- you NEED to watch the version with the Canadian ending! It's fantastic and you didn't mention it in this review so I'm assuming you may not have come across it! The full ending has Sara escaping but then it turns out that she only dreamed she escapes. She wakes back up in the cave, realizes her escaping was just a dream and then starts hallucinating that her daughter is in the cave with her, etc and it insinuates that she's stuck down there forever! However American audiences found that ending too bleak, so for the American cut, they chopped out that portion of the ending so that Americans would just think she's escaped. But with the original ending added on, it's even more fantastic and adds even more psychological depth to the film! So for you and any of your commenters who might read this, check out the Canadian cut that includes the real ending! It's easy to track down a copy to purchase and you'll love it!

    The only people that I would not recommend this movie to is those who physically cant stand the sight of blood because there are buckets of it in this movie. Its extremely violent in parts. Anyone else would need to get their heads examined if they havnt seem this yet. GO WATCH IT it is actually way better then just a horror movie.

    Great review! I have never heard of this film until now. I will check it out. I also have another film recommendation for you: Storm of the Century by Stephen King. Awesome film. Once you watch (and hopefully also review one day) Near Dark, you have to check out this film! Unless you've seen it already.....🎃🕸🔥💀👻

      Been wanting to check out Near Dark for a long time. Love Katherine Bigelow's films. I'll add Storm of the Century to the list as well...been getting a few Stephen King requests haha.

    That car crash scene was so badly done I couldn't even watch this all. I should have given it a chance, but it was after I watched a couple horrible movies and was fed up by the point I got to this. I was just like how the hell, or why the hell would anyone let that happen? When you walk you pretty much look forward, who drives looking constantly at the passenger for that length of time lol I'll watch, I heard great things.

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You thought the car crash scene was bad? I thought it was very effective. This movie is a masterpiece. Definitely watch it.

      @@DrumdumsOfficial lol! My bad like I said I was kinda in a piss poor mood from 2 back to back crapfest of movies and I was I noticed the (sorry about the nitpick here but) They were just looking at each other for so long that it was irrational. Even as they are about to hitthe car I was like uhm wtf, did you two forget you're on the road? It just didn't make sense and ended up making me turn if off because it pisses me off when someone risks other peoples lives just because you have a brainfart and can't think rationally. I am gonna watch and feel like a douche for the nitpick lol

    Unpopular opinion but I just didn’t like this movie. Maybe if I didn’t go into it with the pure mindset that it’s gonna be “the scariest movie I’ve ever seen” like everyone around me was telling me it would be, maybe. But hey, opinions are opinions, we all have one lol either way I’m subscribing. Your reviews are too good whether we agree or not! Next up, The Crow! Or An American Werewolf in London. I love Halloween!

  • @joshuathomas5626

    I just dont see what the hype about this film is. It relies on jump scares to much, and there is no tension when the audience sees how easily the "monsters" are killed off. I thought they said these creatures hunt, including big game, in the forrest, but appear to want to commit suicide by murder when confronting the humans.

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it's the emotional struggle and the relationship between the girls. Especially Sarah and Juno. The scares actually mean nothing to me.

    • @joshuathomas5626
      @joshuathomas5626 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drumdums but aren't the scares and suspense the point? I don't like the Matrix for the comedy

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      john thompson Not always. I usually let the movie dictate where I want to go emotionally. If it’s great it’s great. It doesn’t matter to me what the reasoning is. But I get your point. And no I don’t watch the matrix for comedy. But characters in horror movies can often grab me like in the Descent.

      Drumdums what's funny is I didn't even pick up on the spouse cheating aspect when I watched this the other day on netflix, probly didn't give it a fair shake. But u have to admit, when Juno threw the blade then snapped the monsters neck like Steven Segal u rolled ur eyes a little

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the sequel is really bad. Worth a one-time watch just for the fact that it takes place immediately after the events of the first...and Juno.

      Drumdums what I don't like is that it negates the amazing original ending...not the American one...from the first film. the ending with her hallucinating in the cave is fantastic. oh well...
