    The way the caps are connected (4 in series and parallel) they have in total 250 Farad at max 10.8 Volts (if voltage is higher will damage the caps shortly).Now, the total storage for this 250 F is 14580 Joules and that is Watt/second and that means it stores 14.58 KW for one second only. If you divide 14580 Watt divided by 3600 seconds(one hour) = 4.5 W/h watt per hour. So, if you power a LED of 4.5 W it will run for one hour. That's it. Not a lot of power :) But it may be able to start a car... you should try that

      Yes I thought I was miss counting but it does seem a bit shy of the 12vs he was talking about,
      Also in an automobile you would want a some kind of extra value capability for any spikes that may happen from the charging system, without it I suspect but I'm no expert on these matters but without it, I suspect it could cause a burn out of the caps, which could do a lot of damage to any vehicle.
      There is another guy using 50v 4700 uf caps and only charging them to 12vs which would allow a huge buffer for his caps to operate, less likely to burst or over heat.

      Me sacaste la palabra amigo ...así es no es igual la descarga en tiempo y comportamiento de un capacitor que se descarga siempre en descensos..que la batería que se descarga manteniendo hasta el 80 x ciento menos y después cae ...una pila de 2200 mah equivale a un capacitor de 2480 faradios ..así que para hacer 100amper tenés que hacer una pila de 2 metros de súper capacitores y son caros aparte ..es conveniente comprar una batería ...no confundamos a la gente que recién arranca a estudiar y hacerles gastar dinero al cuete ...teoría primero práctica después...

    The capacitors are connected in a series and parallel configuration, ie 4x 2.7v = 10.8 working voltage NOT 12v you are over charging the capacitors. Add another two to the array would solve this. I don't think that wire would handle 100 amps eather.

    Capacitors will leak. The voltage would probably drop 1 volt each day. Although it can deliver large current for a short time, the voltage drops as current drains. So this setup can only function as a small capacity battery which cannot keep its voltage for a few seconds or a few days. You can use it as a car battery if you drive the car everyday. But if your dome light is left on then your car may not start the next morning. One more thing: you need 5 in series if you charge it to 12V, or 6 in series if you use it in car (around 14V).

    • @rathnamalasp1097
      @rathnamalasp1097 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Jerry Chu, I had the same doubt which you had explained here. Still I have no clarity on this.
      First thing is, is this setup will work? Will it produce 12V? Or it has the capability to store that 12v at least for a day?
      Second thing, can we use this to "jump start" our cars? When the car is standby in parking for one month.
      If it can be used in cars, then can we replace the battery??

      You noticed that too!! There's one caveat: 2 strings of five capacitors drops the total down to 200 farads, allowing a maximum of 13.5 volts. Putting six in series to keep them within their ratings if used with a 6 cell lead acid battery, drops the capacitance down to 166.66666.... farads. That allows up to 16.2 volts, an appropriate margin for the charging range of a car battery.

    • @jerryfrcc
      @jerryfrcc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rathnamalasp1097 For 12V you need to connect 5 of these capacitors in series, and be careful not to let the voltage to go above 13V. You better use 6 to be safe. Capacitors cannot replace battery. You can use this setup for spot welding, but not much else. To use in car you need to buy more capacitors and will cost a lot more than a battery.

    Good but you need 6 in series if you want to replace a car battery. The alternator charges at 14-15 volts. With only 4 in series your voltage is 10.8 volts, 12.8 max out. You wouldn't get very far in your car before these caps explode like little grenades as soon as the alternator over charges them. I like your idea, you just need to add 2 more pairs.

      Except that Ah is NOT a unit of energy!
      0.83Ah at 12V (which it will not be because it’s a discharging capacitor) is like 10Wh.
      An AA battery holds 2Ah. Is that a huge amount of “energy”?
      At 1.5V (pretty constant, cause it’s a real battery), that’s 3Wh.
      WHAT?
      Are we concluding that this rig only holds the energy of three AA batteries?
      No, it holds less (because of the decaying voltage of the capacitor bank).

There clearly some safety issues, as well as error in voltage, and the little wire and solder joints, will be limiting the current draw (When they melt). Just call them fusible links.

In a normal AC 60hz circuit, most charge and discharge that fast just to keep a steady flow of current. Its actually amazing how fast they do it. Of course the more capacitance means it takes longer. But in this case, not long at all. A few seconds. 30 tops.
