Not even mentioning Swedish Jan Boklöv, who invented the V-style. But then again, even though he always jumped the farthest, he was constantly downgraded for style. Until everybody adopted it. I'ts also way safer than the classical jump.
@@rotapander It isn't, the V-style was NOT invented by Bokloev, but rather popularized in the World Cup circuit. There were other athletes that attempted to jump like that, among those was Jiri Malec seen in the video.
Arcadian - under modern (2018) standards, Funaki's jump would barely rate 18.5's. Under the standards of 1998 - this jump was unbelievable. It wasn't a case of marking down the landing, it was a case of marveling that the landing was made at all...
LOL Bullshit about this being a jump rating 18.5's today. Please. It looks just as remarkable now as it did 20 years ago. And I saw it live on my telly back then. I'll never forget it.
This is actually not 100% truth. Swedish ski jumper Jan Boklöv was the one who invented the V-style and first one using it in international competetions.
are you guy ahve problem with listerning ? or your brain just dont work ? they never say japanese invent the v shape lol they just say that some czech ( white ) used it in olympic and he think that it made he fly longer , so some japanese scientic or math guy do the math vv about it and found it true so everyone start to used it
inoue jerry They never say who invented it but it’s wrong to say that Japanese scientists and the czech is a vital part of it. Boklöv was the one who invented it and he flew much further than everyone else and that’s why the scientists even researched it (if they did). (Not because of the Czech)
I remember watching Nykanen jumping, if I remember he was only 16 or 18 years old , and the American 'expert' commentators were pointing out all the things he did wrong. and yet he landed 8 meters further than anyone else. If he'd got it right, he would have landed outside the arena. Just goes to show what the American experts know.
If there's one thing I can count on its finding someone coming up with a new ridiculous thing to ridicule anything they can about an American. I'm sure no other experts from any other nationality have ever gotten anything wrong. Nope, couldn't possibly happen.
There are many Ski jumpers who had won a gold medal, but there is only one who has his own movie and that's Eddie Edwards. So i think Eddie 'the Eagle' ist the most successful Ski jumper.
Yesterday, Kraft should have got a perfect score. New hill record in Kuusamo with a textbook style and a fascinating telemark. I'm not professional style judge, but I don't understand why all of them gave him 19,5 points each. For me this was most beautiful jump in history, there is no doubt :)
Probably because he didnt made a jump believed to be impossible. What you need to understand is that Picasso isnt the "best", technique wise, cubist to have ever lived, he is the inventor, the first one.
@@samsignorelli it is easier to just say bullseye than triple twenty as "train" is to rail yet we use train as road that dont have rails but my point is imposable to trow with hands tied behind the back
Dax Moore Fine, then let's talk the field portion of track and field. High jumpers are judged by vertical distance, long jumpers by their horizontal distance, same with javelin/shot put/etc. If it's something which can be objectively measured, there shouldn't be a subjective measure influencing the score.
1) tradition 2) most importantly, since a pretty Landing requires to exit the aero position earlier, it gives an incentive to safer landings. A distance only based competition would end up on who dares leave the aero position the latest, which opens the door to huge safety concerns. The athletes themselves were recently asked about it and virtually unanimously were agreeing to keep things the way they are since they all know there would be that one random lunatic who would take massive risks and force them to follow. Furthermore, data shows that, provided you land "properly", distance and style are correlated quantitatively. So ultimately it already comes down to who jumps the farthest, as long as they follow a certain esthetic pattern.
To be honest he should have 3 of those however the other 2 jumps eve tho they were perfect like this one was for some reason Italian judge would give him 19.5 twice and the other judges all gave him 20s!!!
Should just be rated based on distance imo. Maybe being stylish even limits how far they can go. However the air is an uncontrollable variable that probably matters a lot and that would reward luck too much.
Its illustrative but ridiculous way to explain technique of skijumpig, and exclusion of Ian Boklev is elementary fault -he is not mention here, for V technique, but ok if it is used to marked Funaki`s achievement.
