They literally try to sell you overpriced bikes that you can get somewhere else cheaper and properly priced for what you are getting. It’s literally the supreme crowbar of bikes, when you can just go to your local hardware store and get a perfectly priced crowbar.
      And no I’m not cheap lmfao, I just like paying for honest quality.

    Great Video! The only thing that I think you looked over is that the Tutto is the only fixed gear frame I know that gives you the option to run a belt instead of a chain since you can open up the frame. As someone who dailys a bealt since this year instead of a chain I can say that for me it's a game changer. No lubing a chain, no oil stains on your legs or pants and best of all: It's so silent! I wished more manufaturers would offer a belt compatible frameset so more people could experience this beautiful, oil-free silence.

  • @zanzatbc

    Here in Europe the cheapest and best way to build/buy a fixed gear but also for any track/road bike is to find a vintage frame. The first fixie I ever built was made with a bianchi supercorsa road frame from the 70s i found on the Facebook marketplace from a seller near me for 150 euros. And a set of dodicicicli wheels with sturmey archer hubs I bought on eBay for about 80 euros. It was nothing to write home about and the road frame was low so I sometimes touched with the pedals on the ground when cornering. But the geometry and quality of the frame made it incredibile to ride around, especially considering I spent less than 400 euros on the whole thing. Including a nice smp saddle and a used miche primato crankset.
    There’s a ton of bikes you showed in this video that I love but I think there’s a lot of cheaper ways to get into fixies without going to your local wall mart

    I have the State Undefeated II in black prism. Absolutely killer bike. I'm 6'2" and the 58cm with the longer top tube is perfect fit. Extremely fast and very comfortable. I ride Cervelo R5 and Yeti SB115 for road and trail, and this Undefeated powers through turns like nothing else. the geo is dimed for speed. I've I ride hard and thrash pretty good, and the wheelset and crankset can handle everything I've thrown at it. I have a Wabi classic and AC nature boy and the state just is so comfortable and just straight up flies compared to the other two(which are stellar bikes on their own). The economy of the faster bike goes a long way. I think a C rating is harsh, review and and rate bikes you've ridden. Can't take a list seriously when you're basing it on looking at pics and a spec sheet.

      PINARELLO X TRACK instead. I just yesterday put my deposit on it too.
      Why the PINARELLO? Well......it is a PINARELLO after all.
      Lol
      I may just regret my choice, but I doubt it.
      Having said that, my current work bike, a Surly Steamroller will be replaced before the year is out. It will be replaced with a Dolan Pre Cursa. I’m stoked to get it myself. Light, quick and responsive, carbon fork, what’s not to like? Rhetorical question! Lol
      There are many many velodromes that use them as their rentals. That means 1000’s of km’s on them with different weighted bodies and riding styles too. You just cannot go wrong.

    @nicojar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    1. Europe has more competent bike builders than USA. Asia has amazing bike brands too. FYI, Wabi copied their frame geometry from Belgian and Italian bikes, they just added the bad paint job.
    2. Cinelli > Wabi, but you and me are judging by different criteria. I like solid frames, experienced builders, smart geometry that fits my needs, and I don't say nonsensical things such as "I think lighter isn't better" one minute and "the previous frame was lighter, so this frame is worse!" the next minute. I tend to be rational. But indeed, if I was living in the USA, where the choices in good, stiff bikes are more limited than in Europe, I'd probably go for Wabi, the European bike's knockoff that looks ok-ish.
    3. The "cinelli tax" you're mentioning is because you've put in your mass produced bikes a brand that makes them by hand. ;)
    You'd be surprised how little it costs, in Belgium or in Japan, to build a good fixie. There is a reason why US bikes don't sell for much over there, and US citizens pay thousands for Belgian, Italian, French or Japanese bikes. It's like cars: they just make them better, faster, stronger, because they don't botch the job in a factory, and all this comes at a cost.
    4. PLEASE, start pronouncing right. "sram" isn't SHram but Sram. You can pronounce the "tch" in "TCHInelli" if you want, but then pronounce the LLs right too. But NICHE isn't "neeTCH" but "neeSH" to anyone, goddammit.
    5. You're definitely pushing Wabi a bit too much, dude. They're not that great. And they are pricey.
    6. Maybe enounce rational criteria before you start your ranking. Are you going to put real track bikes in the same pool as commuters? Because that's what you are doing by putting wabi in the same pool as throne or cinelli. A track bike, a crit bike and a city bike do NOT have the same requirements.
    Stiffness makes sense in some parts but not all of them, this is why experience, skills and knowledge are important when building a frame.
    Putting the same stiff and hardened steel everywhere (as wabi does) doesn't give a comfortable ride at all. You want lateral stiffness around the bottom bracket (and this is the place where the flexibility is felt on your frame, not through the axle/crankset) but extreme lateral stiffness around the wheels only make sense in a crit bike. You want a solid frame if you're fighting in a rad race, but not a brittle frame. Weight is not everything. Geometry matters too. Welds matter too, but you don't seem to be able to assess what a good weld is, the way you spoke about them.
    ...
    On so many aspects, this is just a glorified ad for Wabi, and it's a bit of a disappointment. You're dismissing crit/track criteria for some bikes, and using them for others.
    You could say - "let's talk about city fixies, then about crit/track bikes - and let's compare what's comparable".
    Also, your hate for cinelli and constantine is as subjective as your love for wabi - I think we can handle this. I'm all for subjectivity. But then, don't invoke rational arguments, because wabi loses on pretty much every one of them.

    • @cuednb8566
      @cuednb8566 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what i was thinking. The whole thing here feels like a wabi commercial. I‘m from germany and would defo prefer BLB, 8Bars and probably anything else over Wabi. So don‘t believe the hype and get a vintage frame from ebay.

    Is there a reason that Engine 11 Vortex or Crit-D frames dont get any love? (Certain paint schemes)
    Reason for asking is that I have a beige to brown fade E11 frame running on Jetty IRC Tan Walls paired with matte carbon rims, Izumi black and gold chain, Thomson seat post, collar and stem. I ride with guys who have thoroughbred Italian frameset and every ride its not their builds getting the attention of onlookers. Yes, I am tooting my own horn.
