I have an 03 WRX Impreza Wagon, which I have pulled out the previous JDM non AVCS EJ205 that is drive by cable. The “new” single AVCS EJ205 that I have bought from JDM of California is a EJ205 that has a drive by wire throttle body. Which that means the engine that I got had come out of an JDM 04 Forester. Which is also means that I have to swap over the cable throttle intake manifold and swap the exhaust manifold from my previous EJ205. I’m tagging along with ya’ Bucky!
Here's the blog post mentioned in the video with the parts, part numbers, and estimated price. Thanks for all the kind words guys!! www.iwireservices.com/post/buckys-ej205-swapped-rs-budget-and-part-numbers
Certainly appreciate the build Bucky, to be blunt I am amazed it took this long for someone to colab with iWire so formally and get this out in the community. Sure there are loads of other builds, the old Nasioc, iClub, etc. (folks like unabomber) around that show you a load of pictures and walkthroughs, a good solid detailed instructions COULD be pieced together, but not like Bucky's ;)
Oh good to know about that clutch fork bolt. I wasn't aware of that, I'm pulling the engine/transmission on my 04 STI soon and I'd have probably gotten hung up on that.
Also, slide it out. Don't crank the bolt on it. If you break it in there it's a royal pain. Still possible, but you'll hate life. To remove the cap it's a 10mm Allen, but you can use a 10mm bolt and two nuts on the bolt. The shaft is m6 size. I don't remember where I got the bolt from, but one of the bolts on the engine is the same size, lol.
@@psedog When I swapped my 5 speed for the STi 6, I couldn't separate the engine from the trans no matter how I tried. The through bolt was the first thing to come out as it's listed on nearly every trans swap write up. Very deceiving as well because there was the split between engine and trans, as shown in the video, but no dice. What kept mine together was the throwout bearing itself. It was clipped in to the crankshaft and had to be released to split. I'll see if I can find the post or site that I found the info on. Edit: as I read through the various threads on NASIOC, the memory of the swap is coming back to me. It's possible that I hadn't pulled the clutch fork out all the way and it was still engaged to the throwout bearing. It allowed the few mm gap between but wouldn't let them fully separate. I'll know in the near future when I go to pull the EJ205 out in favor of a different engine.
Buckyyyyy your making my dream come true. Can wait to see the complete project and please do a section of time attack with the car or some track testing of the car. Cheers from Puerto Rico
I agree on not cutting corners on the wiring. iWire did my wiring and AQMotorsports did my ej205 swap. After priming it started right up on the first crank. Over a year of problem free driving so far.
*Great* vid. Thanks, Bucky & iWire! 👍 I have the *exact* same engine/transmission combo happening, just going into a 98 Legacy GT. Q: Are you reusing the AC compressor from the RS? Did you have to reuse (and modify) the mounting bracket? Q: Did you reuse the RS's starter? Q: Did you loosen the transmission mount to help with jacking it up? BIG shoutout to Lance on the long transmission bolts. It wasn't until I had them all out that I noticed some were different. 😎👍
Very well done. Honestly, I'm surprised by the relatively low cost. That said, it's fantastic to folks like iWire to help out. Finding true Subaru specialists is a rarity. Thanks again for posting this! Although it makes me look at this huge pile of parts in my dining room and cry a little as I have no garage and have to depend on a local mechanic shop. They're good, but I really wish I could participate.
Hi Bucky, Jack from Arizona I met you on the Gumball a few years back. Picked up a 98 Impreza and I'm trying to do the window switch relocation to the center console. I-wire apparently does not sell that as a kit. That was just completely custom?
Great vid! Can't believe I only just found out about the RS build series. Could you please link to the iWire video you mentioned or even their TH-cam channel?
🔥 I was thinking Bucky, if you want to grow your following, do some collabs with other channels like Hoonigan. Rip the bucket in their burnyard etc. I guess just message them would work.

I have bought a JDM single AVCS ECU for my impreza from iWIRE last month. :)
this is helping me remove my 2.5 engine and replacing it with another. Thank you Bucky! You're the best!
Glad to help
This video is packed full of great information, thanks for filming it, cannot wait to see the progress along the way and the end result.
You’re very welcome please share and pass it on to those it can help👍🏼
This is the best engine swap video I've ever seen. Very, very informative. You guys are Hella talented. Thank you!!

They may take a few days to get their edit out.
Sounds good!! Thank you for the heads up!
Agree Iwire is a lifesaver , I've done this swap as well as GD body and without Iwire don't think I would even attempt it with the GC body !
Love watching the RS come together, well come apart to come together.. Awesome content as always!!

Die Hard is such a bad name for a battery company lol
I like the lame, its epic!
JDM EJ20K 978011
Do this engine fit on a subaru impreza 2000? It will be a swap engine
So how many MORE parts and $$$ required for making it CA legal? (Serious question)
Good question👍🏼
Buckyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Y e a h !
Next Impreza: put an H6 engine in it =)
Noooooooooo
5k is not to bad for the swap.
What would be cheaper is buying a donor Wrx
So $5,000 for my dream car and another $5,000 to make it turbo, got it
👍🏼😉
I'm an old dude and not familiar with the swap, what is the benefit?
More horsepower with the addition of a swirly boy (turbo)
Bucky, what's your plan for that old header?
I may toss it on my daughters car when we do the head gasket next👍🏼
@@BuckyLasekOfficial Lucky girl! Are you interested in adopting anymore kids because I'm available and highly independent haha
I couldn’t find the video to remove the dash dose anyone know the name
Follow their Instagram and most likely they’ll post about it when they put it up. They may take a bit longer than me with their edit.
We're working on it this week. Hopefully will have it live soon. The harness install video is live on our iWire TH-cam now.
2 days until Tony Hawk 1 & 2 remake .......
