I believe Dick's exact words were "We are paratroopers, we are supposed to be surrounded." It' sounds a bit out of character for him so I am thinking it may be just a movie thing.
My Uncle Larry Jumped D Day with the 101st I still have his dog tags his Jump suit was donated to the Airborne museum at Ft Bragg by his nephew Major Stevens with the 82nd Airborne Division around 1984 or 85 I tried to put on his suit but it was way too small when I was 14 or 15 I was 5 ft 7 128 lbs exactly the same size as he was no one talks of the equipment like a switch blade and steel knuckles and prisoner wrist chains he demonstrated on me how truly effective they where he spoke of a Lieutenant from California was killed in a jump over in Europe somewhere and after that he said he no longer made close aqustances RIH uncle Larry Private Stevens FW service number 35510671 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagle All the way !
I know Mr. Dorr and have been to the museum several times. He is a man of wonderful character, bent on iron-clad provenance for each and every item on display. It is the best museum in central Pa. 5 Stars all the way!
I had the privilege to be able to be in Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day, walk through the locations and walk through the museums. I will go back again, this time with my Army buddies, one of whom wears the Screaming Eagle for Desert Storm.
Great walkthrough and information. One thing being an American Tanker was not the most dangerous role in WW2, bomber crew, Rifleman, Engineers and more had it way worse.
Great video. I'm proud to say I earned my wings at Ft Campbell in 1958. I served from 58-60 there. They were still in the process of reactivating the Division after it disbanded after WWII. They reactivated in 1956.
We are looking to do more episodes in the future dealing with personal artifacts within our own collection and some local museums. We wanted to try this pilot out to see how it performed before moving on with more content. Stay tuned!
th-cam.com/video/dHNhhD9qbN0/w-d-xo.html ; War reenactment of the DIA-D in Santander beach very interesting day to see things from before Vehicles and weapons, this video Parachute Jump from Aviocar plane; more videos of the day
OMG !!! I want to ride in that tank ! Thank you for sharing this video. Amazing ! My uncle Bruce was a paratrooper (Viet Nam era). As kids we took the pilot chute & would jump off the roof of the house.
The rope was a let down rope? We used it to make swiss seats, to rapel with. We would use our reserve if hung up in the trees, deply it and go down those ropes.
Thumbnail image of the uniform. You know it’s a bad-ass when the Purple Heart is on the SECOND row! explanation to those who aren’t aware. The row of ribbons is organized by highest award on down. PH is a high award, so the have enough higher medals to bump it down is not common.
I noticed that Maj Winter's Class A jacket has his wings but that the wings had no additional stars representing the operational jumps on D-Day and the jump into Holland [at the Son bridge]. Is there a reason for that?
I Just can't believe it, IT TOOK 2 films, Saving private Ryan and the Series a Band of Brothers . To wake people up to WW11.The 502 ABR DID NOT win the war alone dozens of other outfits and let's not forget the Pacific. My pop was also in the Ardennes he served in the 3army 11th armored division 42 TANK Battalion company A he was just a corporal among thousands of other corporals , that didn't have any books movies not made, my pop was just 1 of millions who served .a
WW2 was a joint effort of ALL the MILITARY, so the credit is so vast they can't tell it all. My husband and I had (they have all passed now) several great uncles and family that jumped in with the 101, first on OMAHA BEACH, and fought on the SOUTH PACIFIC ISLANDS. They get their credit through personalized short versions of what they ALL went through.
I’m amazed on all of Winters equipment. It’s so good to see with this collection he will never be forgotten.
I love the quote, "We are Paratroopers! We are trained to be surrounded.". That is the quality of an Airborne Infantryman was made of.

Salute for Erick's collection , and thank you for making this video !

I was in the 173 abn Brigade in Vietnam. The Army seems to disband its best divisions after they use them in a war.
Everytime I read about Lt. Meehan's letters to his wife in Band on Brothers book, I always git chills...they really put duty before anything else.
That was great. Just finish reading Band of Brothers so the Dick Winters equipment was awesome to see.
Thank you Kevin! We hoped you learned something about the gear and men that made the difference on D-Day!
Brilliant video of an amazing collection, very well put together!
Pretty awesome show! Well done!
Outstanding ! Great stuff thanks for taking us along. Next episode?

Thank you Diana! It was quite a thrill to relive some history!

' dammit, we're goin, and we gonna get it done! '
My lord, I hope that museum has a hell of a security and fire protection because it would be heart breaking if that would ever get lost

Not to take away from any of the airborne units that fought in WW2. You must look at the 505th PIR. Four combat hubs and fought from Africa to Berlin
They have an incredible combat record. The Sicily jump was a true test whether airborne warfare was going to succeed and the 505th led the way!
Brillant sub this Channel Folks greets from Ireland .

It's possible he kept those for his family...
so,that army haircut is really a classic...i thought its from the 80's or 90's barbarian haircut...
Ed. Shames, a former officer of the Easy Cy has just passed away. Here is a great video about this hero! RIP th-cam.com/video/E0Ipr8hLrG0/w-d-xo.html
Where did all the leg-bags go , long time ago ? lol

Isn’t he missing the Ranger Tab? He went to Ranger school.
Embellished?!?! Go look up that word!
