Demilun...half circle dam on any slope they repair desert land with a series of these. They can be used to move runoff away from occupied land or into gardens in a controlled manner
Micheal you got great ideas... Brett & Debra have lots of Rabbits😅 dogman had containers he want to get rid of a while back he used for veggies .. those metal frames would be great for firewood storage those plastic fill with dirt bury to make burms to to move water. Hollar homestead had same issue with water flow he fixed it last year.
So excited about this giveaway!!!! Can't wait to hear more Hey just get Wiley to level that garden ground off and dig some ditches around it. And have him go ahead and put in and old timey root cellar to store your cans and any root veg in. Four rows is going to be tough. You're going to want corn, green beans, tomatoes, peas, potatoes and so much more.
We had a plum tree next door and we planted a dwarf peach it was the best sweetest fruit didnt even have use any sugar in the peach pie made off them..sad tho they cut their tree down and ours died.
I love walking onions and Cherokee purple tomatoes. My mom always took banana peels and put in 5 gallon bucket with water and water tomatoes wirh it. They provide potassium and make your plants hardy. Love gardening.
Good morning ☕ Jenn & Amber. Exciting, planning garden. Look forward to watching your garden grow. Yes fruit tree's ❤. Blackberries & raspberries (Bush fruit). Grapevine. Hopefully you've found your nut tree's on the property. I'll be watching for these videos ✔
I got my old garden completely ripped out, all my seeds are sorted & I have started germination of some starters. I have purchased almost all of my materials for the new garden. Gotta have some mini-ex ground work done on the grounds then I will be ready to start bringing it all back together. I’m excited to see how your garden turns out!
An additional comment regarding the flat area by the IBC totes. Level ground is good, but it needs to have an outlet for water to drain off and thereby eliminating standing water. As you know with your driveway, ditches on the side help to keep the driveway "high & dry" by giving the water somewhere to go. I could tell you a lot about gardening that my late wife and I used to do. Summary is that you learn what does well and what doesn't in your particular area of the planet. Wife loved carrots, but we couldn't grow them. We loved sweet potatoes, but they just didn't produce potatoes, only lush vines. Trial and error. But in 47 yrs, we learned that you grow what you can, preserve it, eat it all winter, and start over next spring. Very few meals on our table had store bought produce, depending on the time of year.
Love your show from Canada. I have been planting for years in our short season , but prayer helps. Fresh veg all winter. All your ideas are great and stick to the fish fertile and worm tea! Lots of love from Bev.
Ask friends to save stuff for you example rabbit poop chicken dried manure from cattle. Use a couple of those totes for water catchment, just put a spigot at the bottom for a hose or even just a watering can.
What you two are talking about is called "terracing" and can be seen around the Ozarks. I know of a cattle pasture on the side of I-44 between Springfield & Mt Vernon that is a very large hillside that was terraced many years ago and it provides erosion control as well as good pasture for a herd of cattle. I mention it because it is easy to see the principle of terracing and observe the benefits because of the grass being grazed year-round so that the all the contouring is very visible. Terracing employs the zigzag principle but is very gradual in its descent so that it slows down the water. A steep zigzag would allow the water to still flow too fast, leading to erosion. Hope this brief explanation helps. You can look up all kinds of info on "terracing" on the internet for more details.
Plant fruit trees in totes this year to get them established. You want your orchard separate from your garden. Tier your gardens beds. Definitely catch water build a small garden tool shed to catch the water.
Maybe get 4 moisture meter probes (placed at row locations) and check the levels for several days after rains to verify how the water seeps down the hill. I think the zig zag would create uneven water retention being on a slope.
Jen CLEAR extra land around garden area & if the kids want their own gardens oh well..or plant extra to help feed Jeff's small eggs chickens lol so you can get some veggies for small eggs lol
See how weed fabric worked on the slope at the 41.36 or even in the garden. Now they have bits and pieces of weed fabric in the soil and plenty of weeds.
Think like rice farmers..each little dam is flat and you allow what you need in each row with little gates. On hillsides dont till much...the fertile soil may not be deep. If you hit rock ledges you may have to follow the rock ridges.
Simply cut the totes in half and fill with soil.. instant garden beds.. drill holes in bottom for drainage. We have six ( 3 totes) growing vegies in our greenhouse because our soil is clay and rocks..hard to dig.
One more thing identify the trees around the garden. Any walnut trees , don’t allow any thing grow around them or in their path. They are very acidic. Identify your soil first and foremost. Don’t forget the more fruit trees the more rodents your going to get, also snakes love fruit trees
Don't forget to add all your ash from burning everything. It adds garden to the soil and makes very rich ❤❤❤
Build a berm or a swale at the top to redirect rushing heavy rain from washing out your bed rows.

Remember when growing fruit trees, most require a pair of different varieties, to cross pollinate

Happy gardening 🧑🌾 girls ! I’ll watch from Ohio and learn as we go.
I use totes put tree branches in and leave on the bottom then add dirt. Then plant.
I love walking onions and Cherokee purple tomatoes. My mom always took banana peels and put in 5 gallon bucket with water and water tomatoes wirh it. They provide potassium and make your plants hardy. Love gardening.

Great ideas. Like seeing family work together. If you want nut trees need to get in soon as possible.
Like the idea of zigzag rows, this would slow down rain water.

Never to early to start planning for your garden. Good luck👍. I’m looking forward to watching your garden grow. God bless you all. Take care✌️🇺🇸
The giveaway is up my alley, I definitely will be watching for that, I am also planning my garden now lol I can't wait for spring!!!
We had a particularly wet section in the back garden. My hubby dug a French drain across the garden and filled it with gravel. No more puddles.
Sounds like you have some good ideas, ladies. ❤
I can't wait to see the Garden , good plans Micheal has a good idea to help with drainage
I like the idea of raised beds, much easier to weed.
Great idea for those with bad backs lol
Ask friends to save stuff for you example rabbit poop chicken dried manure from cattle. Use a couple of those totes for water catchment, just put a spigot at the bottom for a hose or even just a watering can.
I love the banter ❤
Sounds like great ahead ❤!

Sent you to a email with how the Hollar Homestead, do their gardens on swales and chicken compost building.
Hello amber an Jenn 👋👍👍
I'd cut 12' long boards and make raised beds and tier it so the water drains. Michael zig zag could help devert water too. ❤❤

Are your free range chickens going to eat your crops? Looks like a great area for a garden.
If you plant arum lilies and cannas there it will sort out soggy soil
Think like rice farmers..each little dam is flat and you allow what you need in each row with little gates.
On hillsides dont till much...the fertile soil may not be deep.
If you hit rock ledges you may have to follow the rock ridges.
What about a French drain?
In Arkansas you shoul# contact the local county extension agentsy for soil sampling and suggestions for your exact soil and location
Simply cut the totes in half and fill with soil.. instant garden beds.. drill holes in bottom for drainage. We have six ( 3 totes) growing vegies in our greenhouse because our soil is clay and rocks..hard to dig.
Do haggle mounds like Jeff @ Bobblehead Homestead has on his property. Plan it out and plant fruit trees and bushes while you can get bare root stock.
Also maybe you can get some rabbit waste from CRC, C'MON or SLR.
Papa. Pepper 🌶 does root cutting and propagation of an edible food forest.
Get some chicken fence around also to keep rabbits or other small animals out so they don't eat your crop plants.
Look up terrace garden ideas.
Heirloom seeds grows bigger crops.
Truthfully you want to go across not down the hill. The way you had it on the first. It looks like steps.
When it rains, it pours.
One more thing identify the trees around the garden. Any walnut trees , don’t allow any thing grow around them or in their path. They are very acidic. Identify your soil first and foremost. Don’t forget the more fruit trees the more rodents your going to get, also snakes love fruit trees
Each tote would make 2 raised beds. Just scrub the snot out of them.
I can tell from here it's not square
