  • Almost 1million immigrants reside in California's Central Valley. In this talk Josiah is narrating a story of the immigrant mother and mother earth. Through personal example he explains how healing our relationship with our mothers and recognizing the invisible labor they consistently provide will allow us to heal our relationship with the planet which provides us with food, water, and health. Josiah Beharry is a first generation Critical Race and Ethnic Studies graduate with credentials and progressive experience in creative and research based writing. He is a recently admitted PhD candidate in Interdisciplinary Humanities, with research interests in liberatory pedagogy and decolonizing curriculum grounded in arts-based education and trauma-rooted healing. Josiah has a passion for advocating for marginalized and underrepresented communities. He wants to help others heal from trauma by finding their voices and sharing their stories through his writings. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you for sharing this powerful and insightful talk by Josiah Beharry at TEDxUCMerced. The story of the immigrant mother and mother earth is truly touching and thought-provoking. It's a reminder of the invisible labor and sacrifices made by mothers and the planet for our well-being. Let's all take a moment to appreciate and recognize the efforts of all mothers, both human and nature, in nurturing and sustaining us. Great talk!
